This is so awesome I grew up watching these films thinking they would be lost to time when they stop selling VHS. I hope you will be able to convert other films from golden rail video, like Thunder Under Heaven or the Steam Power Sawmill.

This video is a great example of why modern steam preservation defaults to replacement or reconditioning of a worn but still useful part, at least to what I'm aware of.

Those rock train compartments dumping those heavy loads thru hydraulics. Was a genuine " Modern-day marvel " of that era -!!!😲

Interesting/informative/entertaining. Excellent photography job/descriptive train 🚂route maps. Enabling viewers to better understand what the orator is describing. Special thanks to veteran R.R. guest speaker. Making this presentation more authentic and possible -!!! 😉. Remember the "Singing Break Men" 🎸🎶 Jimmie Rogers. Whom was a genuine break men till changing careers to a singing entertainer 🎸🎶one. ( 1926 thru 1933 ).most memorable song " Break Man's Blues 😭 ". Last if not least -!!! Casey Jones museum ( I-40 ) exit 80-A Jackson Tenn. A relaxing way to spend quality break time while traveling ( I-40 )like I did -!!! 😉.

Hey , Be kind to number 10 she’s only a few climax is in existence. Not to mention, she’s a three truck version which you rarely see. So Flippin what if she was mechanically poor designed, she’s still a locomotive, so treat her with respect no matter if she operates like a pain in the butt. I think she’s one of the coolest geared locomotives, the shays get more attention rather than the Heisler and the climaxes

I apologize for a little criticism but I volunteer at a museum where we have 5 to 6 steam traction engines and each one of them has their own character when it comes to mechanical.

We have one that is actually named Christine.

To be fair the Climax even with it's reputation is the better engine for pulling heavy rock trains. It's slow but all wheels are powered and has good control

I agree!

That reputation is earned though. You can’t have an engine bouncing around that much without some long term wear compared to a regular locomotive that might not have the same factor of adhesion. The route they’re operating on doesn’t seem to be intense mountain grade, so the rod engine is handling it just fine. I was actually impressed with the technique the engineer was using to sand for starting with a loaded train. Most places now don’t need to exercise that type of practice.

The greater irony is how the Climax was left to pick up the slack. The Mike did well but I wasn't expecting it to be failed after just one day of work! Poor thing. Climaxes have a closer drive layout to a rod engine compared to the other geared locos and I suspect that's where the hopping comes from. It's dynamic augment, or hammer blow, transmitted more to the engine itself since the cylinders don't directly power the wheels.
