Goldeneye 007 - Best Way to Play

I have always wanted to play goldeneye with mouse and keyboard on project 64, but it was too hard to set up. But now I found out that there is an easier way to play goldeneye with mouse and keyboard. Thank you very much!

The thing a lot of people seem to not know about playing on the N64 is that you're not limited to one analogue stick, I played it using two controllers, there's a controls setting that lets you use one to move and one to aim more like a modern fps, it's a bit awkward using two controllers, but it works pretty well all things considered, probably one of the most under-rated features of the game imo

I used to play with both controllers as a kid, but I personally don't recommend playing like that. It seems more comfortable then it really is.

This is great! What’s even crazy is that the uncompressed HQ SFX from that leak from years ago also works in-game as a mod, even in original hardware! Like so much for an N64 game, HQ sounds work great! 0_0

The Xenia way to play is best if you don't mind the lack of polish in some of the levels, various music bugs, slight audio delay, lower display resolution compared to what a budget PC can achieve with 1964, and the laborious process of finding that sweet value for the mouse sensitivity and other aim-related settings. The 1964 way to play is best if you prefer the original look, the least amount of visual glitches (use the GlideN64 2021 plugin, not the 2020 one), more responsive audio, easy-to-run 1080p rendering (or 4K, if using Jabo video plugin), easy-to-adjust mouse settings, FOV slider, etc. I really like both ways. For newcomers of GoldenEye, I think 1964 is best, since it is a more complete version and is much easier to setup and run with mouse & keyboard. But for strictly multiplayer with controllers, Xenia is the one I'd go with for sure, and I think my mates would rather play on that over 1964.

Unfortunately, there are some textures missing in all emulated versions. The water in the frigate-mission is glitching out completely. Even if the N64-Version doesn't play and look that good anymore for today's standard, it's the only version with no graphical issues.

To fix the glitching water in Frigate, change the video plugin to GlideN64 (2021). That worked for me. Even far out in the distance it's noticeably more stable.

I jist want to emulate this and Perfect Dark using my retroid pocket 3. Aiming woth only one joystick is awkward though. I wonder if there is a soecifoc work around for those of us notntruing to use mouse and keyboard but still wanting to get a better control set up experience

Hilariously you can use two controllers to make this a twin stick shooter, that's a legit control method I played the remaster on emulator but my 360 Is "Unhackable" as I was told otherwise I would loove playing on xlink online I know everyone swears by mouse and keyboard for fps games but I tried It and It feels too weird probably Just my setup, I wonder If there Is a gyro mod to play splatoon style

I grew up with goldeneye, don't get me wrong, but I miss more shots with the Nintendo 64 controller then mouse & keyboard or with the xbox 360 controller. I am aware of the two controller configuration, but that doesn't really help either in my case. Maybe it's just me, but I really do think most people would miss the most with the original controller.

@@ultracreed3080 maybe the stick you're using is simply too worn? The obvious downgrade you get with the N64 controller is the durability of the control stick, but using one in good shape is a necessity, especially while playing this game, otherwise it'll feel too rough and kind of move around in "steps", making it harder to make fine adjustments.

golden eye in n64 is still great,I will admit that the blur and framerate are quite jarring if you go off 90s memory however,unlike perfect dark,goldeneye isn't as all over the place in quality and framerate,the controls do take a good 20mins of re getting used to but then it all starts to come back. the game is still qn awesome challenge and alot of fun,controls ... for me goldeneye worked very well with the original n64 controller,there isn't anything wrong with emulated with an xbox controller but it is not the same,also key+mouse may well be good but its also not the same experience and frankly there was nothing wrong with it to begin with. people give the n64 controller a hard time,the stick WAS a mouse so while xbox style sticks are OK,it is not the same,a good smooth n64 stick is perfectly fine for goldeneye yeh sure,emulated looks better and mouse and keyboard would be good but you ca opt for the original hardware,game and a good n64 controller and get the authentic experience Goldeneye performance wise hasn't held up so well but it is not in the same league as a game like turok 2 where the game is actually unplayable due to a framerate that goes all over the place and makes you feel motion sick,perfect dark also has its moments where the framerate stops the game from being enjoyable but goldeneye never does this but where I would argue with most is the criticism s of the n64 controller and where people claim that goldeneye is soo far behind the curve of modern fps games and that it shows its age,it was soo far ahead of it's time,it was better than half life 1,it still is better than half life 1,you can get alot more replay value out of golden eye than say half life 1,it has more depth in gameplay than half life 1,was doing alot of interesting things for ... a console game

How is the n64 stick a mouse? Have you ever played an fps game with a mouse and keyboard? It's a far superior experience. Also I wouldn't quite say it's ahead of its time as quake had already came out when this game was released.

i still say best play on the nintendo 64, but still other method is also good. on the nintendo 64, you could use 2 n64 controllers to simulate a modern 1st person shooter as player 1 in the settings, also works for perfect dark on the nintendo 64. nintendo 64 - original. can't fault this version since it was made for this console in mind 1st. xbox 360 - modern fps control scheme feel. nintendo 64 emulator - it's okay, but not the best. xenia emulator - as long as there a customized version that lets you used mouse and keyboard (it's better too since you don't have that nintendo 64 aiming but more of a modern fps aiming when you ads any weapon), also works with xpadder for gamepad controllers (slow, but still better than the game native controls).

@@ultracreed3080 You are wellcome , I love the XBLA version the most trough Xenia , but the the guy from the Far Cry 5 maps really nailed the level geometry along with the colors , it really gives you the feel of a remake of sorts, and by changing the enemies to speak in Russian makes the game even more authentic haha. I play from time to time!

I play all my retro games on a crt with mostly rgb cables, but then N64 with s-video cables :) to record I had to concert the signal to hdmi and I added a mClassic in there
