Maybe you don’t believe me, but when my mum got married in Manchester 1995 the same year as Goldeneye, he lent my mum his limo for their wedding for the kids to ride in, we aren’t some high flyers just a normal family but luckily my mums friend worked in that industry and knew him. I was 12 years old and he had been told I was a huge fan of Goldeneye and Cracker. In the car, it had a note in their addressed to me saying “ Hi Sam, enjoy the limo, snacks and fizzy drinks in the cooler and I don’t think your mum would be too happy if you cracked the champagne in their but enjoy the ride !” What and awesome man! This is one of the best scenes in a Bond film. It has humor, grit, violent intent, and builds the story of the dark world relationship between Bond and his adversaries. Pierce Brosnan was the most suave, sophisticated 007 ever. His acting, dialogue delivery, facial expressions all fit the personality of a British secret agent perfectly. Zukovsky was an awesome character. It was cool how there was an acknowledgement of the Cold War origins of Bond in the form of a rival agent from the other side of the Iron Curtain. Because he served his own nation, it seemed like he was presented as being more honorable and civilized than the more insidious enemies Bond faced off against, who held no loyalty towards anything other than themselves. You can also see the duality in him, though, when he talks about the Cossacks, where he acknowledges they were massacred brutally, but still holds that they deserved it. Robbie Coltrane did a great job in the role.
@DoctorDodge3 жыл бұрын
Well put. It’s quite impressive just how fleshed out he is as a character, considering he has so little screen time in GoldenEye. It’s not surprising they wanted to bring him back in a slightly more substantial role two films later, especially with Coltrane being brilliant in the role.
@JThom529 Жыл бұрын
Yeah Valentin is a criminal and a bastard and having a civil conversation with the agent that tried to assassinate him. But for the right info, he’ll give Bond a meeting with Janus where maybe in his mind Bond will be killed and Janus will reward his loyalty. But if Bond survives, it’s no skin off Valentin’s bones so long as they never see eachother again. Till “World is Not Enough”

I think this is the best part of Goldeneye. The thing about James Bond is, after a while it gets a bit cliche: there's bond with a girl at the end of the mission, there's a bad guy who gets beaten, there's goons who get beaten, there a few fun gadgets, there's allies who mostly survive, there's some insanely melodramatic evil plan Bond foils, but here we see Bond showing that he can have a serious enemy who he simply chooses not to kill at the end of the mission, showing a soft side to the normally VERY vengeful bond we see in the earlier movies. Craig's my favourite Bond because he was no where near as gadget dependent, no where near as over-the-top, no where near as infallible, no where near as full of cliches as the other Bonds.
