I had trackmaster 2’s on my ‘22 KLX 300 and it made the bike into a beast! However, I accidentally got a bigger rear so it wouldn’t creep up hill as good and that bothered me.But it went faster on road very easy. Also it was INSANELY loud on road, like louder than the engine loud 😢 so if you ride on road a lot you won’t like it. I couldn’t get over it. So, I kept the trackmaster on the front and switched back to the 605 rear. Good setup for me. Now I’m about to get a set of pirelli MT 21’s

@@d_ward4871could you please explain to me why a bigger tire climbs worse? Do you mean bigger as in wider? I honestly had the understanding that a wider tire climbed so much better because of that wider footprint. And also since the volume is bigger, you could run it at lower psi and increase that footprint even more. It seems like I'm missing something.
@d_ward48712 ай бұрын
@@TomiLynch yeah I was talking about diameter not width. A smaller diameter rear tire results in a slower forward speed at a higher engine rpm, definitely makes technical trails and hill climbs easier, for me anyway. It wasn’t a huge difference between the 2 tires, but pretty noticeable

The 250's are identical frame, wheel, motor when it comes to mod. The BIGGEST power increase u can do to these is the air box. Lid off, HiFlo Filtro filter $25, cut the back fire screen out. To fuel it buy an 02 delete for another $25, it reads prime air/fuel ratio and runs richest it can. Big low end torque/power increase, and intake will growl but only u can hear it so u are still stealthy. Cheap and easily reversible if u dont like them.

This bike now is like a KX stroker. The 250 head and block need no machining. It beats a stock KLX300 my friend owns. And it's still DOT legal dual sport. Im thinking of the air valve now that I saw this video. The pipe IS HOT for sure. Klx is a tough bike and will last.

You are a great rider and video maker. The only reason you didn't get up the hill was the rear tire with no tread left, otherwise it would have done fine! I ride roads and trails with the D605 rear (about 2500 miles and it is toast) and the Pirelli MT21 front which is much better for the sand and mud. This was the combo I used on the TAT from NC to CO and it worked great. The rear D605 lasted the whole trip from NC to CO with 100 lbs of gear on the bike. I know I would have been down in the mud of MS and the gravel of OK if I had used the D605 front tire. I changed to the D606 front and rear in CO to finish the trail to OR. I rode the KLX300 home from OR to SC, taking 11 days with the Shinko E705 taking only 2 lane roads with no problems. It is a fun bike to ride, you just have to know you are not going to ride fast on the roads. I did a lot of stops enjoying the USA on the back roads. I have a Yam Super Tenere for long trips and riding fast. I will be using the Shinko 244 Golden Boy on the James Bay Highway/Trans Tagia this summer for a 3600 mile trip. I would expect to get more than 5000 miles out of the rear tire. MotoZ tires would give the best mileage, but hope you don't have a flat because the tire sidewalls are really stiff!

I’d like to pick up a used one at a reasonable price but for now I’d probably stick with a used DRZ. Knowing how to mess with a carb is a useful “skill” and the aftermarket support is massive. If I ever saw one of these for 3-4K used, I probably would grab one -just for the better suspension and the reasonable aftermarket. I can’t justify the new price (can’t with the DRZ either, hence me getting a used one lol)

I have a 2023 and they are pretty gutless, coming from 400-650cc bikes I didn't expect a lot but I find myself always hoping for more power and another gear on the pavement. If it was a first bike you would probably be happy but the money you'd have to spend to maybe get another 5hp is not worth it.
@MrThejunkman Жыл бұрын
@@goaheadmakeourdayscooterpe964433hp at the rear wheel vs 23 from the KLX. Both are sort of “gutless” but if you aren’t overweight or super tall, 33hp + a jet kit, 3x3 and maaaybe a full system exhaust will get you more power than you need. You also don’t really need a 6th gear unless you’re going to cruise on the highway -which isn’t the point of a dual sport or SM if you get that variation of each. It’s better than spending 3-6k more on a KTM or Husky that probably won’t even come to you street legal
@randombuilds833611 ай бұрын
Just get a drz cheap used. Throw a 434 bigbore, FCR39 and pipe on. That'll get you north of 40hp at the wheel. Add in cams and port work you'll get close to 50hp. I haven't had mine back on the dyno since adding the stroker crank and fcr41, but it's got a fair bit more oomph than it did with the big bore. $4k for the bike, $300 bigbore, $315 stroker, $300 fcr carb, $350 used exhaust, $200 old style hot cams, probably $250 in gaskets and carb jets and fluids. So under $6k with over 50hp and will cruise 80mph no issues after dropping a few teethin the rear.

@@randombuilds8336 Cheapest used DRZ anywhere near me is around 6K and beat to shit with way too much mileage for that asking price. Would I pay 7k for KLX300? I did. I bought 2 of them! The DS and the SM. You can't get one bike that does it all? (Except for touring) these 2 bikes can do almost do it all! I really wanted the KTM 690, but there is no KTM dealer near me. I'd mostly have to figure out how to work on it by myself and I thought "for that price I could get a new KLX DS >and< a new SM"! So I did. One for commuting and joyriding. One for offroad and trails. Each one saves wear and tear on the other, and by learning to do maintenance on one, I also learn to do maintenance on the other. I got a hitch hauler and drive my van to and from ride locations. Able to change clothes and rest for the ride home. That goes for street group rides (SM) or trail group rides (DS). Now Kawi also has KLX230 in DS and SM, even more people can step into the same strategy.

Get this bike you won't be disappointed. I've owned an 88kx500 a 92wr500 these were very fast bikes I could win drag races with friends but I dropped these bikes in sand more than I rode them. It's no 450 and I have a modded minibike that I'm sure will beat it in a drag race but there's no match when it comes to ridability.
