Thanks for covering the topic of interference from Pathfinder bulbs through the radio, and the solution of using a ferrite core ring.

I chopped my hair off! No more helmet hair! I experienced no interference from installing my Electrical Connection LED headlamps on my '89 GL1500. However, I got direct replacements for my '05 F-150 fog lights and what an awful buzz they make!

U simple rock Scott...can I hook up a wire from the battery to the battery.. my selinoid just clicks when I try to start it.

A lot of people who know about mounting tires will get the tire on the rim, then rotate the tire a little. This can help properly seat the tire. These same people will usually spin the mounted tire, looking to see that the bead is evenly set. Ferrite chokes can be salvaged from old computer keyboard and other cables.

When using balance beads be careful not to use air with a lot of moisture in it, many compressor tanks are very wet! Aluminum wheels also caroad from moisture inside wheel,beads will clump up!

I used an air conditioning vacuum pump. With a hot tie under vacuum the moisture in the tire will boil and be drawn out by the vacuum pump. So far I have not lost the seal of the bead on the tire under vacuum.

I also have really liked balance beads, I find as i get older that it eliminates that high speed vibration that aggravates the carpo tunnel and makes your hand feel numb. I was told I couldn't put them in my 2009 GL1800 due to the TPMS which is not currently working because batteries are dead inside. Well that's not true, there is no screen or anything blocking the stem going into the tire. (thanks Goldwing Docs for that info) so i just went and put my beads in the front and rear tires.

Very good point! Vibration like this is fatiguing and can cause permanent nerve damage!

You too?? No haircut in 6 months!! Gotta get it done (haircut) and I have two Goldwings (2003 & 2006) 1800 oil changes to do........ what to you think of the Wix (SL10000) filter for the Goldwing? Thinking of ordering a case of them and I already have several gallons of Honda GN4 10W-40. Good?
@GoldwingDocs
@GoldwingDocs 2 жыл бұрын
Wix makes excellent filters. They also manufacture the NAPA and NAPA Gold filters, which I have used for MANY years on all of my vehicles.

Scott, does that single ferrite choke work as well as the circuit that you published awhile back that had several components on it? I'm not knowledgeable on electronics but was able to follow your lead on that, but that installation is difficult to fit back behind the headlights on my 1500. This choke looks relatively easy. This recent series of videos has been very helpful. Chris

That circuit was actually to block the noise caused by the headlight modulator, but yes - that circuit is essentially a single ferrite choke "on steroids." For anyone reading this, here's the circuit I designed and built that he's talking about: goldwingdocs.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=197702#p197702

I have a 1991 GL1500 SE that I fully restored last year and has 250,000km on it. It runs great and since Restoration I have put another 9,000km on it with no issues. I am thinking of taking it to Sturgis this year. My trip will be about 7,000km. Would you a Goldwing with this many KM's on it on this long of a trip?
@GoldwingDocs
@GoldwingDocs 2 жыл бұрын
For sure, and I think you've got enough mileage on it now to consider it reliable. There are 1500's out there running with over a million miles on them!

I have an 81 goldwing I bought in 81. The right side cylinders stopped firing. But if I spray gas into the airbox with a atomizer the cylinders fire. The bike was running fine and all of a sudden it stopped on that side.
@GoldwingDocs
@GoldwingDocs 2 жыл бұрын
Sounds like the carbs on that side need to be looked at, then? Perhaps no fuel getting to those cylinders...

I think both Pathfinder and EC recomment a ground loop isolator when you get noise on the radio like that. I know you know a lot more about electronics than myself. Is a ground loop isolator basically the same thing as the ferrite choke?
@GoldwingDocs
@GoldwingDocs 2 жыл бұрын
No. A ground loop isolator will not normally solve this type of issue - that's used in audio circuits to isolate grounds between two components so as to not induce noise based on a difference in potential on the ground between those two components. If there is noise on the power circuit, a ground loop isolator is not really going to help much - unless there is already a potential difference in the grounds, in which case ANY induced noise from any source on the power is going to be heard as noise.
