Golf 5 Review

This was a great Golf game back before Golf+ became a real golf simulator. When Golf+ went to 18 hole golf they too off and left this one in the dust. THe graphics were fantastic on 5e, but as Golf+ kept advancing, they exceeded it in every way.

I got it just to play Troon. First round was horrible, as it took a long time to learn everything. After that, I played 9 holes and started to enjoy it. Played Troon lots of times now. The 11th has a train😂 After getting used to it, I enjoy it almost as much as Golf+, but there's toom for improvement. My biggest complaint is the greens, the flat lighting makes it hard to visualise the putting line. The greens feel too slow. I got a new set of clubs for doing something, maybe getting my handicap down? That helped, the standard clubs didn't hit the ball far enough. Going back to Golf+ was a struggle, the pro greens are so much faster. If Golf5 had similar greens, I would be happy with it. I love that they do different courses, coming from the UK, I want the courses from this side of the pond.

Thank you so much for giving your opinion on this game. This game makes me so angry, angry that I paid for it, and angry that I bought the St. Andrew’s course. I have tried to go back to it a few times and it is terrible, last time I tried there were only 4 people online - there were high number because Royal Troon was on and some poor fools were tricked into buying it. I bet they weee all on their first game also (I bet very few play a second round). I left a review complaining about how I couldn’t re-centre to reach my ball and the devs argued with me. Man I hate this game so much. Thanks again for the review. /rant

Golf plus is much better have more club adjustments and easy to manipulate!

To be honest, I think you should have played Golf5 a few times before making this video, that way you could have been more objective in your opinions, rather than just calling something dumb. I own Golf+ and Golf5 but only play Golf+. I’ve given Golf5 a fair crack of the whip but there is just something about the game that doesn’t feel right. I really wanted to like the game but I’ve always had trouble hitting the ball consistently. Quite often, for no apparent reason my drives look as though they’ve been topped but the ball still travels 300 yards! Chipping and pitching have no real ‘feel’ and the experience is unrewarding. The golf clubs look like something that you would be given at a pitch and putt course and don’t really represent the latest modern day clubs. The course shown in the video is one of the first released by Golf5 and doesn’t really represent their latest offerings, which in my opinion look better than the Golf+ courses. I’ve played St. Andrew’s on both VR games, with the Golf5 release looking far more realistic. I understand that Golf+ loads the whole course, whilst Golf5 loads a hole at a time, which is why the graphics look so much better. I only use VR to play golf and when I do I want it to be a fun experience, which Golf+ is. Golf5 on the other hand looks good but is no real fun to play. I’ve seen some comments on the Golf5 Meta page, both by Golf5 users and the devs themselves that suggest that some of the low ratings are fake. Reading between the lines, to me, it seems that Golf5 devs might be suggesting ‘dirty tricks’. I’ve contacted the devs on a number of occasions but have never received a satisfactory reply. They are far too defensive in their game and don’t seem open to ways in which it could be improved. I couldn’t recommend Golf5 in its present form.

It isn't that bad, just a horrible experience at first. I ended up enjoying it a lot, but not as much as Golf+. Troon made up for the initial steep learning curve.

This is one of the early courses. St Andrews looks very good indeed, better in fact than St Andrews on Golf+ but the game just isn’t very good.
