It's great to see inside the process that my clubs went through. I took them out on the McGolf driving range after I picked them up from Jim today. These z545 irons have always felt great but with the different shafts they felt (for me) much smoother and seemed to be launching a little higher which is what I was looking for . I hit some really great shots and can't wait to try them out on the course, weather permitting. Thanks again Jim!

I have a question about frequency matching. How bad or much of a difference is it to reshaft this way compared to reshafting with new shafts? I bought a set of TI x100 shafts from ebay for a good deal to replace my CB iron shafts coming from AMT s300. I couldn't justify $40 per shaft for the tour issue new and found my tour issue priced at the same price as regular x100 new so I thought it was a good deal. If the frequency doesn't match perfectly in a higher iron, can you modify the longer iron shafts and use them for the shorter irons since there is more play there and then end up buying new shafts for the lower irons that no longer have shafts?

Great demo, I have had 2 heads come off there shafts an the fellow at the shop said it was due to leaving my clubs in the trunk of my car in excessive heat. T or F ? I’m going the check all of them and if needed re glue them. On this demo you did not show how to glue the heads onto the shafts, can you show this or recommend a demo that shows how to? Thanks

Trunk heat Can certainly cause that to happen. Particularly in darker colored vehicles and high temps

I currently play the z545 with the 980 nippons stiff....... he is going to love them ! Very under rated club.. when you pure them they are rockets with green stopping power too.. z565's have nothing on them. same feel ... same distance.

Another great video! Do you always install tape on all the shafts first and then go back and put the grip on? If so just curious why Im always looking to learn better ways. Thank you for all your help have a great Thursday.
@McGolf7 жыл бұрын
Paul Rhodes tape first grips second that way the grip solvent doesn't get in the way preventing the tape sticking to the shaft
@paulrhodes4827 жыл бұрын
McGolf Custom Clubs well that must have been my problem! I would tape and then apply solvent and Grip one by one. I was having problems with some of the tape not sticking bubbling I knew there was a great reason you did it that way your work and process is amazing. I do have one other question! When I remove old Grip tape there is residue on the shaft what is the best way to remove the sticky residue? I would use Grip solvent or adhesive remover then the tape would want to stick as well. Sorry for all the questions I'm just a perfectionist and always looking to educate myself and get better. Thank you for all your help really has been a blessing. -P

fantastic content, thanks for posting! you make it very easy to understand what's going on, I really enjoy your "classic traditional" methods and the quality of finish you leave after working on clubs! have you got any tips for reaming a hosel? I have some miura wedge heads I want to shaft up but due to the excellent tolerances miura clubs have the heads need reaming to fit the shaft
@McGolf7 жыл бұрын
Miuras come in taper tip only. The hosel need reamed to accept .370 tip shafts. If you don't have the tools and never completed the task before then get someone you has. I say this because the miura club is very stunning and pricy I would want them used in a first time trial. If you have then look for a reamer with a twist pattern not fluted and at .380. use a drill press.

good stuff sir. I have a rattle in my sterling one length iron do they have weights inside and it could have come out?
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
ahoyahoy booth there is a place for a weight in the hosel of a sterling iron. Sometimes a piece of epoxy breaks free and creates the rattle and finally it is also possible but unlikely that piece of dirt found its way through the hole in the grip either by regripping or bouncing the in a dirty golf bag., oh and check the alignment of the to make sure it’s not the coming apart

I noticed you left the plastic on the grips until after they were installed onto the shafts, then you took the plastic off. Is there a reason for that or just habit?

IT is easier for the plastic to come off when installing them. Others smash the butt to do the same thing. Either way works

Do you make any adjustments for swingweight when using midsize grips? I stopped using midsize grips because it lowered swingweight 4-6 points, as compared to standard grips.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
I personally do not, Swing weight is not prime concern, total weight is however, that said, if you are swing weight sensitive, then yes I would but when you add weight for SW then you then need to look at the flex of the club. It is a cascading affect

McGolf Custom Clubs I’m re-shafting some Vokey wedges with tour issue s400’s. The original vokey wedge flex shafts had tip weights. I’m wondering if I should put the tip weights in the new shafts or leave them out. Were they put in because the head weight was too low or because the shaft weight was too low?

@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
quick steps make sure the tip is abraded, make sure the hosel is thoroughly cleaned out. no solvents!!! mix epoxy, typically one to one ratio. Mix for a minimum of 1 minute to remove bubbles, throw on a little quick center although not required I like it. put a little bit of the epoxy on the tip, slide on the ferrule then slide head onto the shaft for setting of the ferrule. apply more epoxy to the tip and inset into the hosel. spin the head on the shaft or the shaft in the head, both ways work. Put a piece of tape along the back to make sure nothing slides and set off to the side for 24hrs. Hope that helps

Is it possible to check shaft spine with the club head on? Just to see if by chance my clubs are already spined?
@McGolf7 жыл бұрын
Colton Roberson yes you can and that is preferred. Being glued, adjusting is out of the question. You will need to do it with the grip off. The grip and tape makes the shaft wobble when it doesn't need too. Good luck

how do you repair a ferrule that has separated from the hosel
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
William Horne normally I wold just slide it back into position and use super glue or some epoxy
@pmccann746 жыл бұрын
a good way is to apply a small bit of epoxy around the top of the hosel and use a lock tight shaft clamp to tap the ferrule back flush with the hosel. I always use LOW heat from a heat gun to warm up the ferrule so its easier to tap back. I also apply a couple of layers of paper masking tape on the surfaces of the lock tight shaft clamp to avoid any scratching of steel or grpahite shafts. Works very well for me. www.golfworks.com/lock-tight-shaft-clamp/p/tsl/

how to save the ferrule?
@McGolf7 жыл бұрын
Actually I don't like to save the ferrule. The ferrule is a decorate piece and a new ferrule looks much better in my opinion. However there are several way to save a ferrule. Wrap the ferrule in a small piece of wet leather while heating the club head. or contact golf works, they have a spray item that is supposed to save ferrules. I have not used it but I am told it works.

@McGolf5 жыл бұрын
with the wavy wheel or the unstitched buffing wheel.
@cobeymyers81163 жыл бұрын
You can also use some Simi-chrome polish and a cloth and do it by hand, if it’s not severely discolored. Any mag wheel/aluminum wheel cleaner will do the job. They clean up with very little effort.
