I shot a sub-80 round first time! It is mostly due to this one video!!! 3 things really made the difference: 1) Standing close to the ball, grip length + 1 ball 2) Gripping down, almost to the end of the grip 3) Toe up during the take away. I got away with just doing 30 putts on my round as my up-and-down chip shots were spot-on. HUGE THANKS to you Eric!!! You just simplify everything into few simple steps!! There is another simple video of yours that made a BIG difference in my Driver and Iron shots. Will post my comments/kudos separately on that video later!! Thanks again!!

Now that's A LOT of info on chipping :) Remember this is a full chipping blueprint. You are only looking to do 1-2 things at a time here that you identify as an issue for you to improve your contact, landing zones and ultimately proximity to the hole. Hope this helps!

Eric, I have been told at set-up (address), with my arms extended, the clubhead should barely touch the top of the grass vs. grounding the club. Also, the ball should make contact slightly toward the toe of the clubhead. Thoughts?
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 4 жыл бұрын
Thats OK if it works. Not every great chipper barely touches the top of the ground and not everyone grounds the club. So neither is WRONG. I ground the club. Toe side is OK to take some SPIN and SPEED off. Again depends.....I would not say everyone should try to hit the ball off the toe for chipping-no. Maybe for you there was a reason for it. More on bump and runs.

Eric - you are the man. One thing I don’t hear on any of your chipping videos is grip pressure. I feel that is a key pillar to chipping and was the final piece of the pie after using your chipping videos. If someone did everything you outlined and gripped at an 8/10 they would still yip in my opinion/experience.

Focusing on setting the lead shoulder lower and keeping it there has made all the difference for me. All of the other setup parameters seem very natural if I just think about the top of my lead shoulder being the centre of the chipping swing and rotating on a level plane. That same feel with more lower body action has also dramatically helped my wedges and short irons.

Honestly once you learn how to use the bounce you really start to feel like you can get up and down every time cause ur just so confident in your contact...it took me like 3 years to learn how to use the bounce tho lol...its one of those things that feels unnatural...almost like ur gonna hit it thin or chunk it but the wedge just magically slides under...lots of mental battles I had trying to learn this

Eric: I am a Cogorno member and watched the whole master class and thought it was outstanding. I really enjoyed the practice session. I was getting too focused on swing changes which is a slow process and ignoring short game which can improve scoring as you work on full swing. Will reviewing the putting class next. Both of these areas can improve faster then the full swing. 🙏

If you have no obstacles, sand trap, etc to go over, do you ever open clubface to expose more bounce even on basic chips? I see alot of open clubface technique and have hard time commiting to aiming straight because clubface looks so far right🤔
@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 4 жыл бұрын
I like to always have the clubface just a TOUCH open even on stock shots, yes! I like to get the ball on the ground and rolling as quick as possible. Putt when I can, then bump and run, then SW.

What distance range are you referring to here? I struggle sometimes deciding how I want to hit shots between chipping technique, "half swing" wedge technique, and full swing depending on the distance as I know they are very different swings and setups. I typically think of it as chipping from inside 25 yards and half swing wedge/pitching from 40+ yards up until maybe 75-80 yards but like I said I struggle at times deciding which fundamentals to use on certain shots.
@CogornoGolf

Hey T P! This would be for shots inside 30 yards. For wedge distance 30-100 this would be best: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKiQk2p3gNR5iLM kzbin.info/www/bejne/nKezZmCAgs2qd6M

@CogornoGolf
@CogornoGolf 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Sean! No thoughts based just off that---would have to see what it looks like and see if there were any problems. If no contact/distance control issues no need to change. Hey Eric. This is Jim. Great video as usual!! My question is how does the bounce come into play on the shots in this video?? I have played forever but have never used the bounce. Eric, it doesn't look like your shoulders are dead level (see face-on in video). I assume this is due to right hand low. If you try to level your shoulders with right hand low, I think you would be more prone to skulling across the green. Granted, the tilt is minor but it is definitely not level. Great info on follow through!

Hey Gerald! Thats correct. A lot of all time great players are just that....great players. Not great coaches. Do whatever works best for you! I've taught this to 1,000s of golfers successfully.. Phils methods require too much talent, timing and practice in my opinion. Wouldn't change it for him but also wouldn't teach it. Just like Bubba Watson. Wouldn't teach his swing but wouldn't change it.
