The movement of the pelvis could easily be defined as the MOST IMPORTANT MOVEMENT IN GOLF. Get it right, and you’re on your way to years of solid ball striking. Get it wrong, however, and a lifetime of golfing misery will follow!
The transition from backswing to downswing creates a lot of confusion for many golfers - should you TURN? Or should you SLIDE? The truth (like many things) is somewhere in between. This video will show you how to train the ideal pelvis motion from backswing to downswing to follow-through while maintaining good inclination to the ground via the WALL DRILL from last week.
10 minutes a day doing this “dry drill” at home or in the office will transform your ability to master golf’s “magic move” and directly improve your ball striking quality and consistency.

Rob's instructional videos and drills have made so much difference in my swing and ball striking. Thank you so much! As a beginner, most people just want to whack the ball around and that leads to nowhere. If anyone's beginner who managed to stumble in here, I urge you to stay patient and go through the drills & instructions. There is no shortcut on golf. Eventually these smaller movements will merge into your full swing! My goal is to go through all of his videos at some point. Thank you!!

Rob- I’m glad I listened to you and set up a station- By doing this and video it showed me in the downswing coming off the wall and that resulted in not finishing my swing to the left! Your video of the alignment rod and swinging to the finish also showed me how to use the ground and on my divot board showed how to hit in front of the ball! Can’t Thank You enough! ⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️⛳️🥃

As a golf absolute beginner (55 years old - playing tennis competitions since 1983) I have been following the recommendations of Rob for 6 weeks. Some of my friends, handicap 6, are really surprised by the quality of my swing after such a short time. My method ? to use my smartphone to make some films while swinging and then to analyze the difference with what is expected in Rob's videos, then corrective actions on my swing movement. My best top 1 preferred video is this one 'golf's magic move - you must do this', which provides from my perspective, 80 % of what should be done ! Thanks !

Normally I score around 45 to 49. What is really weird I don't remember swinging the club. I just did this move as you stated and even had a couple 230 yard drives. I'm a believer. Thank you. Jarhead

Been working on this transition move all winter. I like the visual down-forwrd to up-forward. I make good contact on roughly 7 of 10 swings. The other three are a little fat, hitting the ground before the ball. What causes that? Is it not going down enough on the shift or something else.

Hi !! Just discovered your channel and it is a Definite Plus. Still discovering all its magic. Question... I seem to have better results when I do NOT sole the golf club behind the ball at address. Less inertia to overcome, and my hands are already primed to start the backswing. Is there a reason to sole the club vital to the takeaway or downswing ? I can do either a slooooow takeaway or fast one going back. Thanks !!

teachers often say that getting the weight forwards is so important, but dont really explain why.....given that putting weight on the lead side at address, and leaving it there, works pretty well too, why bother with weight shift at all? Curious.

My question is, during the transition/follow through as you form the shallow U shape of the belt buckle, should the bottom of that U shape be lower than the buckle is in the initial stance or are you simply returning the buckle to its initial point? If it is actually lower, presumably that's achieved by bending the knees more than in the initial stance? Thanks

Gears has shown that transition to left side starts well before the backswing is finished. So we are drifting to the left as the club is still going back.

The head makes a swing too In transition the head actually drops a bit as the front foot/knee/pelvis begins to use the ground to develop torque too the shaft I’m glad people post these lessons but in my opinion this one doesn’t do anything but freeze the golfer with too much info and some of it is wrong

Rob, this is the missing piece for me as I tend to over cook the hip slide since it gets mentioned so often in S&T (presumably to address OTT moves). Your hips are moving forward in the video, but your knee and even some upper body is too. This more comprehensive view of "weight forward" helps a lot and I expect will fix my head falling back. I anticipate "tucked hips" coming more easily now. Great stuff as always.

Having trouble shanking it occasionally but that's because I haven't been making a proper turn, and trying to perform this move gets my hands way on the inside from the outside, sending it 45 degrees right. Only just now, and replicating it in the mirror, do I see that the left knee comes inward when the left foot is open, ala Nicklaus, creating the correct shoulder plane. Everything else - this move - follows from there. Without the correct tilt and turn, it's a lottery.

Rob, in your one videos that describes the trailing arm feeling as though it's losing an arm wrestling contest, I don't know if I am over exaggerating that sensation but when I implement it in conjunction with the "magic move" I am generating a ton of lag and creating a tremendous amount speed that leads to 8 out of ten purely hit shots with all clubs. Looking at my video captures, my right elbow appears way tucked in a la Hogan. Does that sound "right" to you? Also, before copying your methods, for some unconscious reason whenever I used longer irons 4-3 and any of the woods, I'd swing like I'd be trying to kill the ball, maybe because I thought I needed to generate as much speed as possible in order to get the kind of length those clubs are "supposed to" produce but which led to a lot of inconsistently hit shots. Now, however, with just three simple methods you've illustrated, 1) butt on the ball so as not to stand/extend up/in, 2) rotate around the spine at that constant angle to the ground, and 3) lose an arm wrestling contest with the trailing arm, I am finding that the ball is traveling farther with what feels like minimal effort. For the first time since I took up this game I sense the club loft is doing all the work. This has been a welcome revelation -- particularly the rotation combined with the trailing arm feeling -- and all I did was stumble across five of your videos this morning, took the three items noted above to the range, and literally within minutes implemented something I've been trying to achieve for over a decade. I know you weren't the inventor of these moves but your videos helped to visualize them for me, and so I say with the most sincere amount of gratitude, "Thank you!"

@@golftecasia Here's a follow up you might find typical (or unusual). Based on prior experience (i.e. stumbling across a YT video that purported to offer unique, dare I say "revolutionary", advice on how to swing a club), I put into practice and tested for each of the past five days the combination of techniques you demonstrated. I did not, as with attempts with prior video approaches, lose the technique or fail to consistently reproduce it. Thinking this was all a fluke, I brought it to the course and shot my first ever 2 over par. My typical score pre-Cheney was between 12-18+. I used a set of Ping G30s in senior flex. I liked the Pings because, with my former swing, they were forgiving of my poor technique. It never occurred to me that I'd be able to capably use the likes of a Titleist 620 CB or T100. Until now. And so, I bought a 7-iron of each Titleist -- one in regular flex, one in stiff. As you know, these are referred to as "players irons" and reserved only for "very good ball strikers". Well, you can guess what I'm about to say. A stunning revelation. I can now easily hit both, at a greater distance and with more consistency than the Pings. So, you have cost me $US 1500 which is what I will have to pay to buy a set of one or the other which I plan to do today. I couldn't be happier. Golf is now, fun.
