Really enjoy these videos where you take a high handicapper and guide us tbrough it. A lot more relatable than watching scratch golf shots
@willemflach9834Ай бұрын
What did I see in this video? Everything it takes to be a good playa: 1. No matter what, get in the fairway off the tee - NO OOPS! Set up the second shot BEFORE you tee off. 2. Set up your goal posts on every shot 3. Hit to the fat side of the green. 4. Avoid penalties like the plague! 5. Learn to love bunkers 6. Treat putting as an opportunity to show off your skills to your fellow players - there’s always a crowd on the green. Walk on with a “watch this” mindset. 7. Never fall into the negative death spiral, Joonas dropped his head after a bad shot. Don’t. Once you are 10 yards away forget the shot - enjoy the Thai humidity. Great work Matty- just love your videos.
@chrismayne1613Ай бұрын
Love this but would comment on your first point - I think don't get hung up on hitting fairway stats. Many/most courses you are just fine if you are in the light rough a metre or two off the fairway, sometimes you even get a nice "teed up" lie. I think the baus nailed it in this video ... if you don't have an Out of Position second then you are golden, even if you miss the fairway!
@GolfSidekickАй бұрын
In position shots only need to be free of tree trouble and avoiding fairway bunkers. Rough is often a great play if it’s far from water and no trees.

I would’ve quit golf if it not for you 🙏 i score consistently around 92. I used to play anywhere from 98-120. 92 is a score I can appreciate and have fun with. I could try to break 90 but I’m happy with where I’m at and it’s consistent with my expectations. Golf is very hard and you’ve taught me to expect the score for the work I’ve put in. I love this game and I love you❤. Thank you golf sidekick for always being on my team. Every round is just you and I vs the course🤗🤘

I’m the same as well! I was shooting around 100-115 and after coming across golf sidekick, I have broken 90, and most of the time I shoot a 92-94. Used to be a great score for me, and I shoot that now without even trying too hard. Just got to keep working on ourselves but also enjoy the journey.

That’s a great mindset to have im trying to get myself into that head space for next season. I used to be almost always in the 86-96 range most of my life. The last 3 years I’ve golfed the most I’ve ever golfed in my life and started breaking 80 quite consistently. Even getting the taste for a -1 (71) round this year. Now any time I shoot over 82 I feel like it’s a horrible round and I get down on myself. It really should just be about having fun and content with our skill level on any given day

Great video bausman! I did 12 months of tracking stats on a popular style spreadsheet that was all about fairways hit and GIR etc. These stats are so much more relevant for a player like me - I break 90 occasionally but usually average around 92-93. Definitely going to start tracking these stats instead - I already play GIOTG style but I love the OOPS stat and the Par 3 from (I'm adapting it to inside 100m for my game). Love your work as usual!

Notice how smooth he hit that pitching wedge out of the fairway bunker, and his player B shot. Fairway bunker is a nightmare for a lot of playas. In his mind, it was a lay up, nothing can go wrong, the ball has already landed safely short of the green. If only we could feel this confidential on every shot. Love the videos, playa.

I used to be in trouble so much that I got really good at out of position shots. Something many better players are not so hot at, as they never practice them since most times they are in the fairway. Golf is so random sometimes no one really masters it, especially if breaking 90 is hard for you. Golf is a game of power and precision, and you need both to play it well. Always good practical advice from GS. Cheers! Of interest might be pro stats whereas people may often say from a distance say 100 yds a pro will hit to within 12' of the pin on average, but this is misleading as most people would just draw a 12' circle around the hole to emulate this, but that is incorrect. Pros miss on the correct side hopefully below the hole giving you an uphill point. GS points this out in green placement shots. Hit to where it is easiest to putt from, not a downhill putt on a fast green.
@GolfSidekickАй бұрын
Better players are better at out of position shots because they also started out playing badly. They overcame that to be better. I think I’ll be surprised how far from the hole the pro leaves the ball after their shots. It’s usually 6-10% of the length of the shot length
@vi11aАй бұрын

I just broke 90 (89), for the first time ever, playing in a competition by keeping my driver in the bag, apart from one nice wide fairway, and used my 7 wood instead. I can consistently hit that around 180 metres and usually get it straight down the fairway. I then hit that again from the fairway when I can. I also clubbed up for most holes so I didn't feel the need to hit the ball too hard. I did have a couple of triple bogeys from silly oopsy's, but very happy otherwise. The guys I played with have a far lower handicap than me, but the number of times they blast their drives into trouble makes you wonder how well they'd score if they used your tactics!

@golfsidekick A question if I may ... do you count shots in bunkers as an OOPS ? (I am guessing yes). Also what do you recommend as the limit distance for counting double chips - I've set it at 50m? I used the system today and playas it was REVOLUTIONARY. I forgot about the score and just focused on these five stats and it was a game changer. I'm not a big hitter so I played off the forward tees - around 5500 yards. Only 3 OOPS, zero penalties, only 2 double chips, only 2 three putts - and most importantly I played -3 to the par 3 from 100m or less stat. Result - 81 off the stick!! This is the way playas!!!
@GolfSidekickАй бұрын
You can make an Oopsy out of anything. I just count stuff inside 60 yards as ‘chips’ definitely inside 40 is a chip.

Man, golf is so frustrating. I shot my best 18 holes yet with a 91 but the only thing I can think of is what my weaknesses were and what bad strategic choices I can avoid nex time so I can break 90. I'm anticipating it's going to be the same when I reach the 80s and hopefully one day the 70s.
