David did a pretty good job at making Garthe look and sound like a different person (as much as he could while obviously being the same actor). Totally different mannerisms. There's a story he tells where his father (after watching some episodes), told him "the guy that plays Garthe is a much better actor than you".

One of the best! The scene where the mechanic threatens to transfer KITT's CPU to Goliath always was fascinating, because KITT displays a different scanner pattern then seen before, the flickering for fear. Not an "emotion" portrayed often by KITT. Plus the very end scene of Goliath screaming while diving of the cliff is unbeatable. Chills!

What an episode this is...brilliant from start to finish..great stunts, action ,the lot...but above that is frankly the acting... David's acting of both Micheal and Garthe is really convincing..i don't see any hint of Garthe in Micheal and vice versa..he really managed to separate the two character brilliantly...the scene with Garthe and Adrienne slapping each other..(for real as you explained),was really bold for a kids TV series..i mean,a man hitting a woman..all other actors were superb too,but i have to say Rebecca was fantastic..showed real fear and emotion here, particulary standing up to Garthe towards the end... Just a super episode...followed by the next one A Good Knight's Work...and how did KITT get down???? Brilliant once again Joe!!!

33:42-34:35 Another reason why I don't care for the syndicated 2-part version as Garthe and Adrianne assaulting each other was cut completely. Instead the scene only goes as far as Garthe saying to Adrianne "You give yourself way too much credit, don't you? I would've gotten out of prison without you one way or another." and then cuts straight to the next scene with KITT's audio edit.

Great episode indeed. Just one side note for you KRH guys, the Herbie look-a-like bug was infact a Disney screen used Herbie at one point. It was most likely one of the closeup cars in Herbie goes bananas (1980) that was kept from the Studios to be reused in the 1982 CBS tv show "Herbie The love bug". More than likely this very car was auctioned off after the Herbie series that just lasted 5 eps. I presume one of the Transpo guys or other crew member purchased the car in around 1982-83 and lent the car to Universal for some cameos in KR. The blue stripe we see is the only portion of Herbie's original tri-colored stripe that was not a decal but was painted on.

Greatest commentary ever up to now! Some episodes ago, I mentioned a now closed Italian site given over to KR/Supercar, and the site often referred to a book named "Knight Rider legacy", if I can well remember. According to the site, in this book it was said that showrunner Lee David Zlotoff admitted he had created MacGyver right after seeing the "spy bread" scene from this episode. Is there a way to check all this? Some trivia from the original Italian edition. The episode aired for the first time split in two one-hour episodes, in two different Saturday evenings at 20,30 (as always in the '80s). Part one ended when we see the tecnician lifting the phone hook after detecting Kitt's entering into Garthe's estate. Well, the Italian edition inserted here the break-introducing clip used in "Goliath" in which we see Kitt running towards Goliath. But, when this little clip was cut from the footage of the previous episode, a couple of frames of the smashed Kitt were mysteriously kept, and you could clearly see those meaningless frames in the final result, before the "Fine della prima parte/End of part one" panel appeared. According to how the epidode is re-run on tv (I mean, one single two-hours episode or two one-hour episodes), the writing appears or vanishes, but the extra frames depicting the smashed Kitt are always present, and so is all the added clip. This is removed instead in the dvd edition, which restores the original footage.

Thanks Joe this was exceptional!👍👍it's interesting that the St.Claire name mixup was made with no apparent reason.excellent job by the Hoff and production crew to film the scene using a crane over 200 feet up.I recall working on my Trans Am at mechanics shop and while my car was up on the lift I had to use a ladder to climb up and felt uncomfortable and it was only 6 or 7 feet up.Regarding the use of stock footage this was a common practice for tv.some of the programs made in the 1960's used minutes and entire scenes re used.part of the reason was time.if they can save time and expense by reusing something they would. When Jim Rockford switched to the 1977 firebird with the quad rectangular headlights for the first few episodes alert viewers caught some stock shots of the 2 round headlights used in the 1976 and earlier cars.Very interesting how the screws were added to the interior of the insert car only. Thanks for the clip showing your discovering (or verifying) the screw locations.I have no doubts that A.J. and yourself have been very meticulous in your history preservation.I always enjoyed Peter Mark Richman as he was in many different series and your companion video on his filming script was very informative.lastly when Michael and Kitt used the grappling hook the was it with the intention that Garth was so enraged to destroy Michael and Kitt that when Kitt suddenly was brought to a stop by the hook that there was no way Goliath could be maneuvered to correct for it.But at the same time Garth must have been so blinded by rage that he did not realize hitting Kitt so close to the edge of the cliff would also be the end for Garth Goliath and Adriene. Many thanks for an excellently done video!!😀😀

Regarding KITT recording Adrianne's speech, didn't Michael tell him to record everything while she was in the cell with him? I remember they started kissing and she moaned something suggestive and KITT said "goodness gracious". Let me say it means a lot to me. I don't like to mention things the wrong way. 1977 Peterbilt 352 Pacemaker. Our neighbor Camaro, as usual. So here, the insert car was still with the fog lights. The famous cell that Garth prepared exclusively for Michael. The white wire. That scene kills... I didn't know they filmed the scene that way. It was riscky. I think they should have added the scene with Adriane talking about Michael and KITT since in the other episode she wanted KITT's CPU. As you mentioned, all this idea is just amazing. All these pieces connected together. We gotta ask KITT where did he get the other words. It was a great job. It really looked like the real truck. Let just point out that the truck, in this episode, already didn't have those cool large antennas. But we see them in this scene. Those were probably some disguised fog lights and not real ones. Maybe they did it so we wouldn't notice two different cars so easily. In this final confront scene, from what I understood, Garth wanted (as he mentioned) the destruction of Michael. So, as he knew KITT had the parachute function, he used his own friend to take them fully down. Except that Adriane (having already some feeling for Michael) right at that last moment, turns the steering wheel to avoid the collision. That's why Garth made that very last angry face (a cut scene we can't watch anymore) since his last static just failed. Great episode.

I've always felt that there were so many things pointing to this ultimately happening: - We saw K.A.R.R.'s CPU still working at the end of K.A.R.R's second episode. - We never actually see Garth die (we just assume he did) during the end of Garth's second episode. - Both Garth & K.A.R.R. had two episodes during the series. - To both Garth and K.A.R.R they are both cast aside by the very things that created them - Wilton Knight for Garth & Wilton Knight and F.L.A.G for K.A.R.R.

One thing I've always been puzzled about is the climax where Michael uses KITT's grappling hook and then Goliath goes off the cliff. Like did Goliath trip up on KITT's grappling hook and go off the cliff? Or was it Adrianne stopping Garthe last minute that caused them to miss KITT and go off the cliff? Cuz even right before Adrianne stops Garthe, his aiming was already looking a bit off. And what exactly was Michael using the grappling hook for? To trip Goliath and send it off the cliff or to keep KITT from going off the cliff?
@SparrowNoblePoland3 жыл бұрын
That scene never made a sense in the first place. If you took a regular, real life Trans Am, and that semi, T/A would have easily been able to outmanuver a semi like that without any hook, if only semi's driver was stupid enough to fall for the trap.

One says "is that a plane" Makes you wonder if Garth knew Goliath was coming that day (which may explain why Garth keeps losing focus during his arm wrestling match.) Or if Adrian sent Goliath at random

Okay this had me super confused because I just watched the 2 part version on Netflix and didn’t remember seeing the scene where Michael was about to test the parachute. Checked the NBC app and same thing. Goliath leaves the prison then we cut to Devon in the semi taking about Bergstrom. Then I dug out my old DVD set with the full 97 minute original cut. Even the opening scene was cut short by several seconds to start with the guard on top of the wall. Wow I can’t believe they cut out so much! Now I feel like I need to watch the DVD version before watching the commentary.

Great video. Makes me wonder about what they might have done with Goliath had they gotten KITTs CPU and shoved it in to Goliath. Would it have Talked? Would it have Adrienne's voice (The ego of that woman !) Would it drive by itself? Would it just take off and go for gas? That would be great if Garth just happened to be working under it. - there is lots of space underneath so it shouldn't really be a problem. Then each week a new gadget could be added: A microwave in the sleeper cab, A tail lift for stealing those heavy items. And let's not forget super escape mode.

Loved this episode. I missed the premiere and had to watch the syndicated version and never saw the scene with Carl, and where Ann and David slap the hell out of each other. I finally saw it when I bought the DVD box set. I remember thinking myself when they did the slap scene, “holy crap!” I remember feeling really bad for Adrienne and it out a lot of things into perspective for me, like why she seemed sympathetic when going to retrieve Clause when they were fleeing the mansion and why she steered Goliath away from hitting Michael and KITT, sacrificing herself and killing Garthe in the process. By far, one of my favorite episodes. I only have the first couple of chapters written of a book I was writing, but in my tribute to Knight Rider, there is no Michael Long, as a tribute to a friend of mine, whom I lost, Michael Long is Steven Long, and is given the name Michael Knight after the Tres Piedras incident. Steven is told by Devon, that Wilton has a son named Garthe, who was born evil, and when he was young, he killed his twin brother, Michael, when they were 10. Michael was the proverbial good twin whom Wilton favored. Steven Long would become Michael Knight, which would explain why Garthe would hate him even more than his blood brother and emphasize saying that he was an insult to Garthe’s existence, and was going to relish killing him all over again.

@@DeadpoolGames19 awesome! I’ll tell you this, the outline took me a couple of years to complete, because I wanted to bring aspects from other episodes to enrich the content and continuity. I also provide an alternate explanation of KARR. Although, if you read the Knight Rider books, 1 and 2, they give a good explanation for why KARR was created. However, mine is a little more plausible.

I really wish that junkyard dog was a 2 parter.... sad times. so here's a question.... how much do you think that universal saved by reusing footage?

They saved thousands, literally, each time!

They all did it. What about Star Trek, just look at the Enterprise? Some of the library footage was so old the Enterprise ended up looking green.

Is that the same crazy guy Tom Greene? can't be, to young. That GMC Blazer looks like a model as does the terrain.
