Around 27:30 you could've used Swords to Plowshares on that Zombie to stop it from blocking Golos. 3 combat damage > 2 lifegain. They would've died instead of going to 1 life.

I think a must run for Golos in this format is Ephemerate, protects Golos if they go to remove it, which they'll want to do. Worst case scenario is you hit it with Golos' ability you ramp out two more lands where as other protections for Golos like Heroic Intervention or Snakeskin Veil are basically dead if Golos hits them.

You actually want them to eliminate Golos because it's huge card disadvantage for your opponent, you straight up don't care if you go T4 Golos -> Fetch Field of the Dead and then they kill it because you can trot Golos out the turn after as long as you have just one land in hand. Some commanders generate value when they come into play, some commanders generate value by forcing your opponent to kill it. Golos does both.

Imprison in the moon, damping sphere, null rod, etc... All take care of the golos problem and are harder to remove than a creature.

Can confirm: golos is an insanely strong commander. I have a edh deck with him as the commander and not only is it fun to pilot it's also super consistent. That moment where you brainstorm and put your most powerful two spells on top before activating golos 👌👌👌

Ive been running golos as a god-tribal super ramp world tree deck. Rarely doesnt get to 11 mana. I run a lot more removal to protect myself while i try to combo off. Ive only had my world tree blown up one time in the many games ive played with it. Unfortunately people usually scoop as soon as you activate it...

I really don't like this type of deck on brawl. It's sad to see some people trying to have fun with different commanders just to get crushed by this type of tryhard deck. It's not a personal attack on cgb though, just venting my frustration.

The matchmaking for this event supposedly tries to pair commanders of comparable power. So CGB's Golos here played with other banned commanders: mirror Golos, Winota, Omnath, and not sure about Bolas. If you try to have fun with underpowered commanders, ideally you should also get underpowered opponents.

There are two tiers of commanders. CGB likes to play the broken, try-hard commanders, so he's only paired against other stupid, broken commanders. The format is much better if you stay away from these commanders. You'll get paired against people playing similar decks.

@@dif4797 not really. There are plenty of activations that can be stoped via target removal, or bad choices. Golos doesn't work on that axis, it doesn't even target the table, but the player's library, and rewards having the most powerfull cards possible. Thats an obnoxious design, because not only he has that ability, but also helps to pay it with his etb. He is a great example of a bad design.

@@ShredPenguins if the only way to play against him in a 4FFA type of game, is ganging on him 3vs1, he is badly designed. Just like Tergrid (wich i have, i've build her, she is obnoxious, now she is only in the 99). Playing politics as a result of the state of the table is nice. Playing politics from turn zero because of the brutal imbalance in the power of the generals should tell you something about how banworthy he is.

@@ShredPenguins koma relies on combat and board presence. You only need to respond it once for it to get under control. Golos is extremely uninteractive, with the added bonus of paying his own tax. The momentum gained by a Koma player by untapping with his general, compared to a Golos player untapping with him is WAY less scary.

I hate the format. It’s always some variant of 5 color goodstuff headed by either Golos or Prismatic Bridge. Sometimes, you’ll run into 5 color slivers, but it’s the same deck with all of the available slivers. On the other end of the spectrum are every single 2 mana commander that are just straight up engine cards that don’t need any secondary card interactions to function, when before cards like that were 4 and 5 mana. Imo, Golos and Baral need to be banned until they can add 4 player Brawl because those two in particular are super powerful when there is only one person with the chance to have an answer for them. Another alternative to banning Golos in particular is adding cards to hate on the activated ability, like torpor orb or Collector Ouphe. Prismatic Bridge can be dealt with by means of Grafdiggers Cage or Weathered Runestone.

i do understand that golos is banned in commander. putting dark depths and thespian stage on the play with it is quite rough. for brawl you have many strong options. golos is very good there, but that game breaking. maybe it could be.. trying to copy your field of the dead or something. not seen yet specific golos strategy for brawl that would be game breaking.

No. Just no. Golos was banned in Brawl. So was Winota and Omn4th. I'm sure the games are insane and CGB did some great plays, but I won't run nor play against those commanders in this format. I do hope we can keep a 100 card 'historic brawl', but the developers need to remember why some commanders are banned in a 1v1 format where the power/value level is too hard to overcome.

As a Golos player, your list saddens me. You play too many early cards that doesnt actually progress your game. Your list over-focuses on dealing with your opponent's things instead. Plus, when you reveal off Golos, some cards just aren't that good to cast. Plus, when you do go off, who cares what your opponent is playing?? Too much overwheming advantage ends the game quickly. But, if it works for you, cool. Golos decks just never care about what your opponent has or does.
