The disdainful stroke actually killed him in the end, stunk up his hand all game and then killed him, lol. He had enough mana to pump into the barrens for another two points on one of the last turns but hedged his bets and kept the stroke available instead.

My comment is late, but I think the biggest spot where it looks like a different play might have been a bit better was around 44:23 when CGB used eliminate on the Skyclave Apparition instead of waiting until the following turn to use extinction event on two creatures. Since the shark ended up chumping anyway, I think it would be better to chump apparition on that turn instead of killing it, then sweeping the board on the following turn. He would be shields down on interaction unless he draws a land (which we know he would have drawn an untapped land), but he would still have an eliminate in hand to answer the one card remaining in the opponents hand, and unless that card is a cheap creature and the opponent draws another cheap creature, the essence scatter would be available on a future turn to answer another threat as well. In any case, thanks for another great video CGB!

Hey CGB, I have a thought and related question on deck build size. We all know the orthodoxy that you should always play 60 card builds except when using yorion in cmd slot. And in my experience 80 yorion decks do struggle with inconsistent draws (maybe 10 to 20% worse...just guessing but I think it's a reasonable estimate). But when people build yorion 80 card decks it is not just for the yorion (definitely not in the recent meta anyway... I.e., the positive value of yorion alone does not make up for this increased inconsistency. Presumably, one must believe that the cards themselves added past 60address a particularly important weak point in the deck and/or that the bigger toolbox the deck can use can offer significant advantages and overcome that increased vulnerability to the shuffler. So my real question is, is it worth it to consider deck builds with 5 or 10 more cards? Or, rather WHEN would this be While of course learning to get down to sixty is a great excersice. But it seems only logical that in some instances adding a few more cards would certainly improve a deck with very little downside.....if I added 1 four-of and 1-2 mana sources bringing th deck up to 65 or 66 cards...I can't help but think that often these extra cards could be very worthwhile. While the increase in inconsistency would hurt a 66 card deck slightly, I think it could often be outweigh by the benifit of those cards if they fill a particularly important spot As an elderly player from back in revised I love your channel....although I would like more icy manipulator centered content 😂 hope you read this. I am really curious what you think.

@moocowp49703 жыл бұрын
Thanks for telling me I'm cool :) I still am confused with your choices of counter spells. Surely it's better most of the time to just run 4 Saw It Coming, a few Neutralise and maybe the 1 test of talents. Like in that last game having the mystical dispute and distainful stroke really cost you. How often do you feel it's really worth it hoping you hit the specific counterspell you need (out of the 5 options) compared to just knowing you can counter something for the extra 1 mana. Also, while I'm always amazed by your ability to predict cards that might be coming, some of the games you were really playing around low percentage odds (like not making a play in case they drew the 1 card they need in a Yorion deck... I.e. like 1 in 20 odds at best). There were a few times when I thought "if he had just played the odds and hard cast that shark typhoon he would have amassed quite the board by now"
@Orudaiken3 жыл бұрын
At 48:45 you could have stopped holding mana for stroke and instead made your opponent stroke out by double pumping the crawling. That extra 2 damage would have done it. And the stroke was very unlikely to hit anything based on their mana alone. Being stuck on two lands and feeling okay is a good sign there aren’t any four drops in the deck.
@aquilaFUN3 жыл бұрын
I think there is not much you could have done different in that mono white game, it was just crazy unlucky to flood out like that while opponent had probably stacked their deck like that. I maybe would have not wasted my Extinction Event on that second Lurrus, they did not had anything to revive anyway and it could not attack too, so I would have waited for them to go wider again, then sweep it. and probably take that damage from the flying alseid and keep my typhoon to make a bigger shark down the road. but yeah, thinking about it, I think simply pumping the barrens all the way on the first attack would have been an easy win? instead of hoping to hit something with the stroke?
@yannisgerakis69433 жыл бұрын
He did two big mistakes : not attacking with both illusions at 44:57 and 48:10 for no clear reason beside wanting to block if the monowhite attack without equiping the maul (which would have been pretty bad attacks). These 4 missed points of damage would have won the game at his last attack.

That mono white game at the end. Why not double pump the Barrens on the first attack? You put them to 4 and force two blocks to hold back rather than just 1. They'd have been dead on board if they swung with the Aspirant. That was the only major thing that stood out.

@gwlmtg10543 жыл бұрын
@@jpfister85 The opponent did not have Lurrus as a companion, therfor it was possible for them to play a fourdrop.
@jpfister853 жыл бұрын
@@gwlmtg1054 Yes, which is why I said "running Lurrus" not "a Lurrus deck." The existence of Lurrus indicated that the curve of the deck was low. The chance of a 4-drop spell showing up in the next round was therefore low, meaning the risk-reward of NOT pumping Crawling Barrens highly favored going for the extra damage. Especially when he should have gauged that it would have increased his clock by a full round. It was an objective misplay and it cost him the game. He'd already seen 20 cards in that deck and not a single 4-drop spell, there was no reason to expect his counterspell would hit (and as it turned out, it never did)

Nice video as always! I think in that last game you were supposed to bounce the sky maul. The speaker was a lifelink threat but with your two blockers and the opponent lacking bodyguard cards he really couldn’t afford to attack with it, meaning he would have needed the second sky maul earlier and that would have meant more investment in his attackers, leaving you a more wide open window to attack harder and force his blocks. You also should have ignored keeping disdainful stroke mana up, since it really doesn’t matter too much in that match up. Not too many legit mono white players run the angel or moth anymore since it’s a little too slow and clunky in the current meta. Aggro needs to be quick, lean, and low to the ground to get underneath the winotas and control decks and apply that pressure to force bad plays.
@aquilaFUN3 жыл бұрын
whats the point? opponent could have just replayed the maul and equip it for free?
