Your summary of go servers made my day as a 57 year old absolute beginner - and you actually help me to loose my fear of playing with others! After having dipped my toes into go rules for a few months I was told to play (and loose) a thousand games in order to see Ataris and overcome kid's mistakes. So I decided to declare myself a 100k-player and each 10 games take 1k of. This is constant self-motivation until I reach my real level ;-)

Losing 1000 games is a bit harsh =) Just learn the rules and enjoy your games. No need to set a goal of losing. That proverb just prepares one that they won't be winning their first few games.

Well, the last months I always lost, because I miss to see the Ataris,@@GoMagic But I am not joking - since this comment 3 hours ago I played already 15 games - and a guy recommended this very channel to me by coincidence ;-) He is French and I am German. So People around the world love you!

Hey, love this video! A good note for beginner players looking to get into playing online is that GoQuest (the mobile game service first shown) actually scores games using the chinese rule set rather than the Japanese rules which have thus far in this video series been the main subject. For any beginners out there, the general idea behind the Chinese rule set does not take captures into account and placed stones do not take away from your territory score.

Hey. Thanks for pointing that out 👍

Thank you so much for this video series.. I just started to learn how to play Go, the rules indeed sound so simple, but it's getting much harder when I encountered the real game. Really need to master the strategies. Love the explanation and animation of your videos anyways :D!!

Good guide for beginning players. Maybe in the future a guide for playing on fox? And maybe also the other ones, pandanet, kgs and tygem.
@GoMagic2 жыл бұрын
Yep, we'll make that one day too. Beginner players shouldn't know the word "tygem" however =))
@entropicaldisorder2 жыл бұрын
@@GoMagic I agree with that, that’s why I put it last. I think however that fox and pandanet could be more valuable for beginners than OGS sometimes. More games to play and you always play with people from the same rank.
@moot87102 жыл бұрын
I definitely prefer Fox. There are always people to play fast games with. OGS is good for studying though.

As good as it is, sending a person who just learned the rules there is a bit cruel. =)

Question: Where is the best place to play against various strengths of computers. Don't like the headaches of dealing with people online.
@entropicaldisorder2 жыл бұрын
OGS has some bots. You can simply select to play against the computer. AI-sensei has recently added the option to play against AI (that’s definitely worth checking out) and if you want an actual program, try KaTrain.

I’m a beginner and my problem with go quest is the time limits.. is it good for beginners to kinda speed through each moves?
@GoMagic4 ай бұрын
As a beginner, it’s natural to feel a bit rushed with time limits, esp on platforms like Go Quest where the games tend to be fast-paced. It can be a bit challenging at first, it can also help you develop quicker instincts and get comfortable with basic patterns. But don't forget to balance that with slower, more thoughtful games where you can really take your time to think through each move.
