I feel like the reason fnaf merch gets the short end is because the series just isn't literal big. Things like mario and sonic are ran by massive companies with quality assurance, where as fnaf is run by a single guy for the most part. And unlike mario or sonic. I highly doubt fnaf has a style guide. These are books with tons of renders and artwork that is sent to licensees to make sure merch is on model, which again, I highly doubt this series has. That's not to mention the lack of official renders in general

There's also a POSSIBILITY that maybe the reason there's such shitty merch is because FNAF targets a young demographic. Think about it, look at every horror movie action figure made by NECA. They're insanely detailed and have multiple variations and extras from R Rated series' like Friday the 13th and IT. But when it comes to horror action figures for FNAF, their joints and and over sculpt are SHIT and seem like lowkey bootlegs. I'm not saying it's fair, but it's a very likely scenario.

Fazzy 1987 nah, they’re just there for the characters. Though, some of them do understand it. Maybe it’s because they have the same appeal as Chucky Cheese? But they’re way cooler and have a more recognizable design..? (in my opinion) I remember being at Chucky’s when I was little for a birthday and I only really remembered the rat robot lol (outta all the animatronics.. everything else was kinda memorable). Their pizza was okay tho! I also really like the “grabbing ticket game” thingy. I alsooo still have my phone booth photos with my dad.

I own three (just got the third one today, funny enough) and I wholeheartedly agree. it's one of those things that, whether you actually like how it looks or not, you can 100% see the actual effort they put into them. unlike funko in some cases, they are visibly trying as hard as they can to make everything as accurate as possible. I personally love them. also, worth noting, the first wave of sets had a rocky start, but the more they release, the better they've gotten.

Yeah I think that's McFarlane consistent issue. they have amazing Sculpts but the paint work is usually very hit-or-miss. although that seems to be a thing that they're fixing lately and with their figures usually they sacrifice posability for the sculpt. and now they're trying to fix that too. their Mortal Kombat figures are pretty great!

I have an idea for a toy based on FNaF. What if they had an actual Freddy figurine that was decent sized, and actually had actions? Like you could press the horn, and have it make a honk noise. You could grab the microphone and he'll do the action that was in the first FNaF trailer. You could turn off all lights, and his eyes and mouth will glow before he lets out a scream. To ass to the ‘lego’ FNAF set things: If you really want to collect them, it would honestly just be better to leave them in the box. Many of the other sets (besides the ones shown) have issues with prices not fitting together, or having prices that just aren’t included that are usually needed to finish a set. I had the main stage and was so excited to put it together. I couldn’t even get halfway through. One of the base pieces didn’t fit together with the rest (I couldn’t fix it), and it made it impossible to finish the set. The figures look pretty good, even though I’d agree with the paint needing a finish coat over it. Just please be cautious if y’all are going to buy one of them!

I used to love the McFarlane stuff, I’ve got a whole box of the parts and figures. The figures were really the only good part of the sets. I used to get the figures, the detail pieces, and the floor tiles/board and make custom sets out of legos. The figures are detailed nicely, and as you mentioned, the parts supplied with the sets do not work very well.

I feel like NECA could honestly do better with the FNAF license. All lot of their figures are incredibly detailed, screen accurate, and a lot of their larger figures use real fabric materials. Imagine a Freddy figure with a soft, removable suit and an endoskeleton underneath, that would be dope. But alas, it seems NECA doesn’t really care about the FNAF series much. Also, I’m not going to lie, I love the Mystery Minis. They’re cute, get a lot of details right (Especially when compared to other Funko FNAF products), and for figures barely an inch or 2 tall, they are incredibly detailed and well painted. The only thing I generally dislike about them is how Funko distributes them, especially in the later waves. In the first couple waves, you were almost always guaranteed 1 or 2 rare figures and basically no repeats per box (Unless the store workers were messing around with the contents of each box). But with the later waves, you’re lucky if a box even contains a 1/24 figure due to how many repeats there are per box, and good luck tracking down a 1/36 or a 1/72 figure without resorting to eBay. It’s gotten to a point where I’ve stopped picking up the figures in store and now just wait for a wave’s production to slow down or stop, only to bulk order them via eBay or Amazon. And then there’s MacFarlane’s products. As a LEGO collector, I don’t usually buy off-brand LEGOs (Aside from Mega Bloks/Construtx, I think those are actually pretty good and get a really bad rap), but I’ve picked up the MacFarlane FNAF stuff every so often. I even managed to track down the entire first wave before they became ridiculously expensive second hand. Once you get past the slightly uncanny figures (Especially a lot of Toy animatronics. I’m sorry, but BB and eyeless Toy Chica do NOT translate well into a suto-minifigure form, the former looks like a drunk and the latter is somehow more frightening than the official model), the sets are incredibly detailed and nicely textured. But actually building them...? Ugh, it’s basically hell, like you described. The instructions are slightly vague at best, there are way too many stickers, and the Clutch Power (That’s what LEGO fans dub the force that keeps LEGO parts in place) is very inconsistent. Some parts have decent or good clutch power, but a lot of the pieces have too lose of connections (This is especially true with a lot of the figures’ legs, most notably the Puppet) or the connections are way too strong to remove without potentially damaging the parts. Heck, some of parts don’t feel properly sized and you need external tools like an exacto-knife or a hammer just to connect them together. The 8-bit figures are whatever, the only ones I really liked were the Purple Guy, Fredbear Plush, and The Bite figures, but even those have their issues.
