it'd be great if there were longer shock bodies, longer rods, longer softer shock springs. an 1/8" more travel at each corner (positive+negative both) can give up to 1/2" more twist (articulation) total end to end, likewise for 3/16" to flex up to 3/4" more. dropping the center motor gearbox down 1/4 or 3/8" is simple enough (to help un-kink U-joints). lifting 1/8" or 3/16", and adding that much more travel could get these to be even more capable. it'd be a really cool kit, "super shocks" and "trans drop" (sheet metal plates).
@GoncaloQuinas6 жыл бұрын
Yes, sure it will be a awesome crawler. Maybe I will think of that in a 1/10 scale. Hehehe
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
waiting on Tamiya Grasshopper screw bag for the "shock" bolts, are a bit longer and may be enough combined with softer springs, or clip the stock springs one turn from both ends "to split the difference". the Grasshopper shafts may be TOO long and sit too tall, but they'd also allow opposite wheel to flop down lower, for more twist overall. I'll see when they arrive whether they'll work and if they need tubing spacers inside the shock bodies (if travel+flop are WAY too much).

@@modelnutty6503 you sound like you know your stuff ! I'm about to pick a few of these up for me and my old lady. We drive real full size trucks (pre-runner and also a crawler) so while they are in down time I'm be nerding out on these big time lol. any tips/tricks or mods, week points on these that i should know about? Thanks in advance.

Upgrade the suspension and put some weighted parts such as a mettle bumper and some softer tires make it a crawler what you did was paint and put a twin moter kit on it with some light 3d printed parts but if going for looks I'll give it a 100%

Looks good! I hate to nit pick but the radiator is sitting way to high. A 1:1 wouldn't put it completely to the top of the roll bar in the event of a roll over. Also where are the radiator hoses and fan wires!!!! lol .
@GoncaloQuinas6 жыл бұрын
Twisted Link Fabrications is because of the battery access, that’s why it sits so high and this is the new technology on the roll cage that takes all the wire and tubing inside to protect from damaged. Hehehehhe

Nice man. Jealous of your printer. I have to buy everything. Have you seen my build. I did a big lift. I can't put the big tires on without spacers I can't find. Thinking of cutting down some rims and making spacers for the monster truck tires.
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
hehe, yup, I watched those vids. a little bit overboard on the lifting, it got a little top heavy unruly trying to side face the mud+grass. definitely a need for the 5 mm to 12 mm adapters! once the 3D printer file is created, there are places it can be taken to have them whipped up, or they could sell on eBay pretty quick.
@supastihl896 жыл бұрын
model nutty Yea my 5 yr old was driving. The wpls tend to be top heavy as everything on the bottom like Suspension are plastic. I'm actually ordering longer shocks. It will be better with the bigger tires.
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
for as cheap as these (and parts) are, really thinking scratch built ultralight chassis for the WPL running gear, with focus on some real articulation and shortening wheelbase about an inch with offset N20 gear motors. without all the plastic weight and up so high it might actually crawl! also thinking 4WS, mounting 9g servos on the axles. I run 2 14500 (AA size) lithium ion cells (3.7v) series for 2S and saving weight, not as sensitive to over-discharge as LiPo is also a plus. also small enough to mount low about anywhere you want helps. I've done a few projects with CF arrow shaft and aluminum tubing, make the ends shapes mate, rough scuff nearby, CA in place then start lashing (all possible directions!) with sewing thread and CA. gets really REALLY strong about 1 to 1.5 mm thick, like "welded solid". hope ya see this reply, this build method ROCKS. for bending tubing slip a bit of cable inside so tubing doesn't kink, then (sometimes) fight to get the cable back out of the tubing. you can also use 1/8" and 5/16" cable and rubber (or shrink) tubing to make suspension links with built in spring+damping action without using any shocks (think "half a leaf spring" with ends mounted solid).

My gears are always breaking :(
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
this works! remove smaller bevel gear from diff input, use a paper punch on card stock (matchbook whatever) to make your spacers. put two to the inside, one to the outside, behind the plastic bushings, press the bushings in tight and CA in place. drill through the paper card stock, replace short shaft and bevel gear. the bushings further apart make the shaft wobble a lot less, the spacers put the gears in tighter contact with each other too. IF the mesh is too tight, make a paper gasket for the input shaft will back the smaller bevel gear out a tiny bit. get it right, the plastic gears can actually hold up pretty good!
