People complain about WPL trucks, but you have to admit, the engineering is fairly sound and you get very scale apearance and upgrade parts are dirt cheap. I just built a fire tender with my B14 and it came out great. Wish I could post a pic but can’t here 😊

This one did unlike the rest of this build! I just got my new printed shock mounts in so you can see what a pain the shock situation was.
@speeddemon20086 жыл бұрын
I grabbed a similar kit with the other style driveshafts. Everything went together well like yours. Two problems; the steering link binds and doesnt allow the suspension to work, and all the axle ends (parts that connect to the wheels) had considerable rust too the point of needing a tap to re-thread.
@AMPROEngineering6 жыл бұрын
RUST! OMG. That is awful. I have not seen binding but I am not at that point yet.

Alberto you might like this one... I CA'd a hanger to the top in line to the servo arm, ran a small short section of small model aircraft cable (1mm?) to a hanger CA'd to the front 4 link mount to the steering arm... no more suspension interference or bump steer when suspension is compressed. cable runs like a sideways U shape, used a lighter (cable inside sleeve) so the sleeve isn't making much of any spring/pressure on the front right wheel+shock. before this, anytime the front suspension compressed, the front wheels turned left, grrr!
@AMPROEngineering6 жыл бұрын
Wow, that is a great idea. That is something that can be used on 1/10 rigs also!
@modelnutty65036 жыл бұрын
thanks, I was thinking to axle mount a 9 gram servo and butchering the box above for the 1/4" (or more) of clearance that'd been lost, then "oh hey why not THIS?". the entry+exit cable fluxed and silver soldered to make it rigid, the steering link end I just wrapped 2 turns around a #1 phillips shaft and soldered into a collar/loop like "----O" to fit. DuBro push rod clamp on the cable at the servo arm is where to adjust for center (it's to the back side and a little tougher to access, but best location for lining up for shortest hanger and least flex), did have to flip the switch to reverse steering direction (big deal!). whipped up the hangers from bits of thicker white powder coated aluminum flashing (CA sticks really good) folded in half over a drill bit slightly smaller than the cable sleeve (squish tight with pliers next to the bit), so when they're opened a little the sleeve slips in, when closed flat and CA'd shut they clamp down onto the cable sleeve. really nice positive steering now, no matter where/how the suspension is flexed! couple quick coats flat black and call it art, don't really notice it visually. definitely will have to drop the axle and pull the 4 link mount to access the 4 pumpkin cover screws if bevel gears have a problem, isn't much an issue, cable+sleeve is just long enough to turn it and undo/redo those screws to drop or install the axle (spatial awareness stuff). I could possibly get away with carefully just bending the aluminum axle up enough to get at the pumpkin cover screws too, but those plastic 4 link hangers aren't all that tough OR easily available...

Do you like these axles? I'm trying to decide between these and the bulkier titanium ones. I really am looking to add more weight in the hopes it will help with traction. Are these relatively heavy? Have you seen the other version that aren't as scale and much more bulky then these? The other option looks like it would add more weight but take away from the scale look. If these have substantial weight I'd rather get these for the look.
@AMPROEngineering4 жыл бұрын
I really like them. I have about 4 sets and they have been great. They are heavier than the stock ones for sure but i you want to add weight, they do sell wheel weights.

Hi. Two questions. What's a set screw and how can brass gears self lubricate? Thanks.
@AMPROEngineering4 жыл бұрын
A set screw is a screw that has a completely threaded body with an internal hex drive for torquing it down. Usually they are used to lock something in place. Brass self lubricates as it has lubricant impregnated within the mating surfaces. Upon saying this....I wonder if they manufacturer here actually did this.....

I could be wrong but i did look it up to check, i dont think brass is self lubricating. There are types of bronze which are but not brass. Chances are the only reason the gears are brass is because its easy to machine.
@AMPROEngineering6 жыл бұрын
Holy crap you are right. It was bronze with the oilite impregnated into it!
@JoesAutoElectric6 жыл бұрын
Sintered Bronze is used in many applications as a bushing in place of a bearing due to being self lubricating. Brass is just easier to machine. Does anyone have a link to the "ugly" driveshafts for these trucks? I have a 4x4 and also a 6x6 which I would like to upgrade.Thanks!
@DoRC6 жыл бұрын
@@JoesAutoElectric actually sintered bronze itself isnt. The self lubricating bronze bearings are impregnated with a lubricant. The sintering just gives the lubricant a place to be absorbed.
@RunThatRC5 жыл бұрын
I was told they are copper gears? Could that be possible? I have 2 sets of the brass/copper ones and a set of the steel black gears. They all seem to work fine for me. Also after a couple runs the steel stuff seems to mesh better than the other gears. It's just what I noticed. But none show signs of going bad soon.

kinda wishing they'd done a drilled spot in the shaft for the grub to bite into, instead of a flat to clamp against, it always holds better. downside being can't choose where it locates lengthwise, like shimming/spacing the bearings further apart etc. btw... minor cringe when you cut the stock U-joint off with the diag's, they're exactly what I used to lever the shaft out of the plastic bevel gear's splines, for keeping the parts intact. aim at the really short exposed shaft, a little squeezing and wiggling, then a little levering... now you know :) it'd been SO much nicer if they'd end drilled/tapped those short shafts for a screw to keep the bevel gear on it's splines. I really didn't like using a tiny spot of CA inside the plastic bevel gear to press it back onto the shaft splines. not enough wouldn't hold, too much could have made a grab to the darn (plastic) bushing. "painting" CA inside the bevel gear splines with a little frayed wire and squeezing the gear onto the shaft QUICKLY... grr! it's right up there with using a little JB-weld to attach stock U-joint to geared N20/N30 output shafts.. it works but dang! (and the 24 hour wait for the junk to cure hard too, grr!)

I did try to wiggle them off but they just refused to move. I also didnt want to use CA. I hate that.
