Gone Fishing with A Tuna Hunter of West Papua Indonesia

This fishing trip was to experience the life a traditional tuna fisherman in West Papua of Indonesia. Based in Manokwari, the capital city of West Papua, Pak LaOde Arsan ventures into the Pacific Ocean specifically to fish the Yellow Fin tunas which have good economic value in this region. His method is very traditional using handline and a simple modern plastic lure.
Sometimes he manages to catch a black marlin , sailfish and other types of tunas such as skipjack or bonitos. His small wooden boat of 4 feet wide by 30 feet long has to brave the Pacific Ocean and rough seas to the tuna ground on a regular basis.
