Carrier here. Love the LLVs, even with how outdated and unreliable they are now in their old age, still the best option in the fleet for delivering. I'll tell you what, these things have body roll like you wouldn't believe. I'd get some super beefy sway bars at the very least, anything would help to keep that 7'4 body from rolling!

I'm a letter carrier and was under the impression the postal service didnt sell these to the general public. Pretty neat you found one. Ive seen a couple that sold through auction that belonged to water utility companies. One of them had the 2.2 liter from the 2nd gen s-series instead of the 2.5 iron duke. Being the s-series chassis it would be super easy and economical to modify the suspension too. I wish i could find one for sale.

I too work for the Usps . They scrap any Llv that’s totaled . Never seen them sell them . This may of been ordered new by some rural carrier a long time ago . Or this may of been used by some other company

I would figure it would be easy to swap an LSX into there. Its basically an S10 chasis. My friends shop has a contract to work on the exact same USPS delivery vehicles. It's such a simple design. There are a ton of S10 trucks with SBC/ LSX V8 engines.

If I’m not mistaken these are based on the first generation S10 chassis so brakes and suspension upgrades won’t be a problem but don’t quote me on that lol

Richie Rich you are correct I worked on LLV’s when they brand new. The concept of the vehicle was the drivetrain was supposed to last 20 years and the bodies were supposed to last 60 or more years. The bodies are made out of aluminum panels that are supposed to have a baked on finish. Unfortunately the concept was not as well though out and or implemented thus none of the vehicles ever had a chassis swap. Additionally when they were built there had been discussions of converting them to electric vehicles which to me would of been a good idea and I don’t like electric vehicles. I will say after having driven one the LLV postal vehicle sucks to drive because of all of its blind spots. They needed all ten mirrors that they cam with originally and then few more because of blind spots. That said converting one to an LS should be pretty easy with all the S10 conversation kits for LS engines.

gullreefclub because of where you worked, you are the SME. Are all of them based on the same chassis? Some or all of the mail trucks in Arlington Texas are fwd. I saw one get stuck on a dirt driveway and helped pull him out. All the while one front wheel spun like crazy. After I freed him, he told me “these *ford sedan* based mail trucks are garbage”

The Grumman LLV’s like the above are definitely RWD, the front axle from a 2WD S10, the rear axle from a 4WD S10, what you’re talking about is it’s replacement which is based on a FWD minivan

The one engine I would really love to put into this vehicle (as it has the GM Metric bolt pattern) is the old 3.2 Isuzu V6; had one in my first vehicle (‘95 Honda Passport) and I loved that engine (wish I could have at least saved that from the vehicle when it got scrapped)
