You’re on the right track using phyto for your Goni and aleveopora. The problem is many people have had success with the ORA Goni without feeding the same goes for aleveopora. The real test would be to purchase some frags of gonis that are not as common and see what happens. I would be more impressed if they showed the longevity and growth you’re getting with the ORA Goni. You’re aquarium looks great and the health of the corals is excellent!

Thanks! My red Goni was bought as two tiny frags about 5 years go. I glued then next to each other on the same rock, the skeletons grew together. They also grew onto the rock. I think you are right and if more people learned more about their care, then we would hear of more success with these beautiful corals. 😉

Are there any differences in keeping alveopora from Goniopora? I’ve heard Alveopora are a bit easier to keep, but not sure how or why that might be the case. Secondly, are there any aggression or stinging issues with either of these corals, in terms of can they potentially be aggressive towards other corals and sting or kill them? Considering getting one in my 26 gallon Red Sea Max Nano tank, but want to be sure to do all my research first to be sure it’s an appropriate coral to add and wouldn’t cause any issues with other corals in the tank or be too difficult to keep. Thank you!

How have you managed your Angel fishes? I am considering the pygmy African Flameback. I have a lot of the same corals as you including 2 teardrop clams in my 150 gallon .
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL 3 жыл бұрын
Hi! It has been tough....but I won't give up my Angels, especially my Passer Angel. As far as my coral....my African Flameback doesn't bother coral too much, he picks at my brain corals on occasion, but no real damage. My passers ate a head of my gold hammer, and started bothering my large neon green hammer colony. He doesn't bother my torches or SPS, Gonis, or clam. I did have to remove all of my Acan colonies and any fleshy coral. I added a third feeding a day, so I feed mysis twice a day and reef frenzy once a day, so he hasn't bothered my hammers since then. The key I have found is keep the angels fed well, and your corals healthy. If they see a coral looking sick they go right for it. All angels are different though. I waited for a passer for a long time so I chose him over corals. You learn what they will or will not eat, and if they go after a coral I remove it right away, and trade it in to the LFS. Hope that helps. Any more questions feel free to ask. 😁

Beautiful tank. Gonis are my favorite coral. I've had mixed success. Used to feed phytoplankton but switched to benereef. Going back to phyto. I have a 40 gallon. Does the phytoplankton increase nitrate and phosphate? I know you said it didn't create problems with algae blooms. Happy reefing!
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thank you so much! Yeah Gonis can be tough. No, phytoplankton doesn't affect my nitrates or phosphates at all. I used to feed Benereef or Reef Roids years ago, but both always increased nutrients. I just dose phytoplankton and Red Sea AB+.

@@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL I'm using seachem bottled for now which I assume is dead phyto. Will dead phyto have a detrimental effect on phosphate? I ask because mine is high. Have an all in one and only a hob skimmer. Can't wait for my dream tank with a algae reactor 😊

@@reefer6972 Hi! Yeah dead phytoplankton did cause a spike in nutrients when I used it years ago, before I started growing my own. It is more economical to grow your own, and it is easy. Check out my how to videos on it, if you are interested! If you have any questions please feel free to ask. Also Red Sea NOPOX is good at reducing nutrients, if used daily.

Man I wish there was some sort of a consensus or consistency in practices when it comes to gonis, jus in the last couple days I’ve read tons of people experts saying well the key is iron or manganese or vanadium or reef roids or zooplankton or phytoplankton or flow is the key and a few more and what’s crazy is they all have results backing up what they did that worked so idk this corals throwin me for a loop bc the red ones are so freakin stunning but I swore to myself I was gonna stick with easier to care for corals and stay away from sps outside of maybe some montis I mean if I could nail down a method of keepin them successfully I’d feel a lot better about goin n buyin one

Hi there! You are totally right, and to make even more difficult, everybody's tank is different. What works for me might not work for other people. In my tank I grow my own phytoplankton....I dump some in every other day, and also add Red Sea AB+ every day. My euphyllia love the stuff. I found Reef Roids and zoo plankton mess with my water quality.

@@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL the phyto doesn’t effect ur nutrients?? Yeah that’s the problem everybody has their own unique yet very fragile ecosystem that can very easily be destroyed and u never know why but there are usually general rules in play that work for most tanks… yeah I keep hearing that about reef roids, right now I’m leaning towards ordering benepets benereef reef food and seachem reef plus to be my sources of food for corals/nems
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL
@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL 2 жыл бұрын
@@born2beashooterjosh397 Nope Phytoplankton doesn't affect my nutrients. For my tank Benepets was a little better than Reef Roids, but a little goes a long way. It raised my NO3 and PO4 so I quit using it years ago. Give it a try though. My carpet nem gets a cube of PE Mysis once a week. My BT nems get fed once a month or so.

@@WRASSEREEFCHANNEL hmm good to k ow I’ll have to keep that in mind!
