Gonzalo Rubalcaba Quartet - Rapsodia Cubana (1991)

This live recording from the Munich Philharmonic Hall at Munich Klaviersommer 1991 demonstrates the brilliant improvisational and technical abilities of Gonzalo Rubalcaba, the Cuban pianist and composer. Accompanied by Jul Barretto, drums, a highly talented young jazz man from Cuba, as well as Felipe Cabrera on bass, Reinaldo Melian on trumpet, this quartet marks one important step in quartet playing in the nineties.

They were playing these tunes in 1985 with Horacio 'El Negro' Hernandez on drum and Roberto Vizcaiño on percussion...some live versions are on youtube (some with my stereo audio dubbed on maybe up there too - a life-changing concert! The Cubans really have it good there with so many top notch groups!).
