Advocates the advantage of the flat probes for more surface area then proceeds to only use the corner of the probe end lol

Does this tester, test the batteries under a load? Description on these testers, don’t state one way or another. Thank you very much for your time. George

How does the instrument measure internal resistance? I know that this should be done at a frequency of 1KHz. Does the manual say anything about this?
@jimtalor79713 жыл бұрын
This is just a basic review of this device (I have one)which has its merits considering the price. For those who says their El Cheapo multimeter can check the internal resistance of a battery, straight hook up on the resistance setting ( ohm) please share us the results.

Can you upgrade the wire leads with silicone wiring? These wires are so stiff.

This is an EXCELLENT tester ! ...... however for ( hyper cheap ! ) testing of all CYLINDER ( tube ) 1v2 to 3v7 cells , there is nothing simpler than a 4 Volt Tungsten filament Christmas tree bulb connected to some short leads ... the brightness should be compared to a new or fully charged cell ( easy ! ) this also tests the cell under some load ... this will NOT test 9 Volt or coin cells , but is handy to keep in toolbox or kitchen drawer ...... ( tried - n - tested ) ....... DAVE™ 🛑

Thank you, I will be purchasing this tester. How did the screen get scratched when you removed the protective film?
@dial2fast4 жыл бұрын
I am not sure. I noticed it during filming. But the screen is just plastic so it will eventually get scratched with use.

How would I go about testing the over health of an 18650? (The battery’s ability to hold a charge, NOT remaining battery energy) Any help would be greatly appreciated!
@danbarb97283 жыл бұрын
You can meassure the capacity of the 18650 with the better chargers, so the charger discharge the battery and after that it charges it. Then it knows the capacity that went to the cell. Then you have the real capacity because those cells loose capacity over time.

What does the “health” indicate..? And how does it measure that?
@dial2fast4 жыл бұрын
Health is the percentage of battery life on the battery as displayed on the LCD. If the battery is 50%, it should be replaced or charged (for rechargeable battery).

Can I use this Battery Tester to measure the capacity of a disposable battery?
Or you can just use your ohm / voltage reader. Does more and same price.

This is just a fancy batteries tester that all.A cheap multimeter or a cheap $3 batteries digital tester do about 98-99% the same things

Perhaps if you knew more about checking the condition of batteries you would change your mind.

Most people don’t seem to know that battery testers and multimeters/voltmeters are designed for very different purposes. Cheap battery tester are just very low quality voltmeters. Quality voltmeters are specifically designed to draw as little current from the voltage source as possible (batteries in this case) to allow accurate readings from any voltage source. They are all high impedance. A battery’s voltage is a function of it’s chemistry. Ideally a battery’s voltage will never change until it physically deteriorates and high quality voltmeters indicate this quite clearly. As a battery depletes it’s internal resistance increases decreasing it’s abillity to produce sufficient current to power the device. By a simple ohms law calculation, as a battery’s internal resistance, with a given load, it’s voltage must drop making it appear bad. The operative word here is “load”. A good battery tester will apply different loads (and thereby current drains) for each battery type it is designed to test. Battery testers for cars clearly exhibit this behavior as they draw a lot of current, get hot and sometimes smoke. They are testing the car battery under loads one might expect under normal use. Cheap battery testers for portable device batteries don’t do this. This battery tester (tinyurl.com/w24dnxts) from Gardner-Bender does do this, incorporating different load currents depending on the type of service that a specific battery type is expected to experience under normal use. This will give a MUCH more accurate indication than the cheapo ones but even so it is not ideal. It is based on a very old design when things were designed to be higher quality. If they could dump the rarely used 22.5 volt photo battery setting and substitute a setting to test the 18650 batteries, and then add a load current more appropriate for 6 volt lantern batteries, it would be more useful. Also even though (surprisingly) the current loads for various batteries , it can test, are not printed it it’s documentation, it is available from it’s manufacturer. Clearly they know the difference between a voltmeter and a battery test. It’s load settings are here: Range Load/Current Drain Minimum Voltage for GOOD Indication Notes Button Cell 1.5 volt 1 ma 1.125 volt +/- 0.09 volt Hearing aid batteries AAA, N 1.5 volt 50 ma 1.125 volt +/- 0.09 volt General usage AA, C, D 1.5 volt 150 ma 1.125 volt +/- 0.09 volt General usage Lithium 3 volt 1 ma 2.25 volt +/- 0.18 volt Usually used for memory backup 6 volt 10 ma 1.125 volt +/- 0.09 volt Insufficient load for testing of lantern batteries 9 volt 10 ma 4.5 volt +/- 0.36 volt General usage 12 volt 10 ma 6.75 volt +/- 0.54 volt Not for car batteries.
