What ive found is that anything with a tune-o-matic (high bridge) is good for rhythm type stuff not so good for fast leads, but when it comes to accuracy in tremolo, alt and sweep picking hardtails and floyd roses WILL make things 10 times easier.

You should ideally take your friend who plays guitar with you when you are going to buy the guitar. Both are start models. String through body is nice. Pickups are sucky in both guitars but can be swapped. Tuning machines are bit sucky too, but nothing to worry about.

To be honest wood plays very little in tone for solid body electric guitars. pick ups and volume on a good amp is the majority of tone. Fingers come first

@disillusioned165
@disillusioned165 10 жыл бұрын
guitaroidman524 im not going to say that wood doesnt make a difference in a solid body, but i think pickups, scale length, bridge material, nut material, fret material, pot and tone caps and value if any, string gauge, and even the action can have more effect on tone. i wouldnt call it one of the main roles, but im not going to say id be ok with a plywood body either. i think it makes a huge difference in the feel of the guitar though which is important.
@piprnic1
@piprnic1 10 жыл бұрын
guitaroidman524 Wood has nothing to do with electric guitars. The pickups are magnetic and don't hear the resonation of the tone woods. Sorry, that's scientific fact.

A couple things I should have mentioned, the Moser was about $600. He also had a Hamer Sunburst Vector for $550. They both sounded great, but I was put off from the Moser because its a prototype and because it had that pickup issue, and from the Hamer because the MSRP is only a bit more than what he charges, I believe. I know you've said that price doesnt matter, but i cant help it. Are these fears justified?

I actually liked the sound of the King V with the Seymour Duncans. Don't get me wrong, EMG pickups sound great, but there isn't much variation to the tone. I think passive pickups give you the option to make your own individual sound more dynamic. If they could make a metal version of the lace sensor pickup it would bury EMG when placed in the right hands.

@TheCrimsonIdol987
@TheCrimsonIdol987 7 жыл бұрын
Generally the sound is thin for the Spider series, it doesn't really have a nice punchy mid range, a deep bottom, and detailed highs. Everything seems too fizzy, not crunchy. Trust me, place them up against something like the Orange Micro Dark and the Joyo Zombie, and the Spiders lack serious punch. It gets even worse when you compare them to tube amps, as there are comparatively priced tube amps. Now if you're talking about the Line 6 Helix or Line 6's Helix Native Software, that's another matter as the amp simulation actually sounds great. It's like Line 6 decided to stop fucking around. Overall Line 6 makes decent stuff, but the Spider series just sounds wrong to me.

Where did this tone wood debate start? Different wood=different density=differences in resonance=differences in tone A recent example I can think of is playing a Ibanez RG752LWFX side by side with a RG752WLFX. The LW is basswood with a limba top and rosewood fretboard compared to the WL's Mahogany body, wenge top, and maple fretboard. Same pickups, same strings, same player, same amp, same settings. The LW was overall brighter and louder compared to the WL being darker and quieter. I welcome any criticisms so please keep the debate civil.

@rimrizzo5364
@rimrizzo5364 10 жыл бұрын
Brady Hiles Nah he's kind of right in a way. I mean ever listen to In Flames their guitarist use les pauls and other Gibson products and they have a fat ass heavy tone. They do put emgs in some of them but the biggest thing when it comes to tone is the wood of the guitar. These guitars do sound good but they sound thin, though thicker strings and raising the action on the guitar might help that. Other great guitars for a heavy sound are the Esps from the 80's that are worth like $3000 now, or an Ibanez rg 550 from the same era, mid 80's to early 90's along with the Ibanez 575. They go around 500-700 on ebay. Now if you have thousand of dollars to spend for a heavy sound nothing is better than a caparison or suhr guitars.

Yeah but to get a good heavy metal sound out of a fender you have to heavily mod it. Dave Murray modded his, so did Yngwie Malmsteen. My friend's MIM standard strat (I have one too just not modded) has Dimarzios in it and he replaced the strings with ernie ball super slinkys. But you're completely right about playing any other type of metal.

I would! I use an ESP LTD M-53. I'm also starting out. This guitar only has 2 control knobs (volume and tone) so you wont get mixed up easily. I got mine at musicians friend so it came with clear toned strings. The pickups are great but the whammy is a tiny bit hard to use (not that much).
@herrajukka
@herrajukka 11 жыл бұрын
If you want ESP LTD, check the 400, 500 and 1000 series with Seymour or Emg pickups and fixed bridges. If you really want floyd rose styled floating bridge, put a lot more money or go for Ibanez (I heard that Edge III is decent bridge and Edge Zero is way better than any cheap floyd rose bridges).

But taking the time to learn how to string, tune and set up a locking trem the right way can pay off since not many people can do it right. And you will never just buy one thats already set up right. Also high output pickups on your first electric guitar might not be the best choice. I would actually recommend single coils or vintage PAF humbuckers, for they will help you develop a cleaner technique.

@codismyBxTCH It depends. Dont look at guitars as "good and bad". Look at which one fits you. Go to a local guitar center or guitar store and try out some guitars, and find out what you like. Low action, high action, low gain, high gain, pickups, floyd rose, no floyd rose, bridges, etc. You should find something you like for a reasonable price. Good metal guitar companies are B.C. Rich, Jackson, ESP, and Ibanez. Those are some of the lower end ones, so they will cost less. Hope this helps!

In a local shop I found what the owner claimed was the Moser Bastard V "prototype." Apart from the fact that when i switch to the neck pickup, theres a huge drop in volume (which the owner claimed he'd fix for me with some spray). I was wondering if in your experiences you've come in contact with Moser Bastards (hell, It'd be great if you've played the prototype, I'm not sure how many were made) and you could let me know what you thought of them. Thanks in advance.

majority of those problems can be easily fixed by setup the instrument some problems are true,like khaler stability or volume knob location, but majority of those problems are just fret leveling or maybe i'm missing something. eg. jackson not intonating well, care to explain how you reached that conclusion? you moved the saddle retuned and? did the saddle slipped or what? on ESP M II you said bad fret leveling please explain how did you reach that conclusion? Thx for suggestions so far! I'm not married to ESP LTD, but I'm just learning and on a budget ($300-$500). Probably a fixed bridge and active pick ups, thin, narrow bridge (I have smaller hands)...So trying to get a model that's decent for price & perhaps I can grow into? I also freely admit, I'm influenced by the endorsers. As a newb, I've got a lot to learn!

I bit the bullet and after watching a few more videos on KZbin and reading reviews online, I decided to order in the ESP LTD-330 FM for $420. I really don't think for my first guitar and learning to play, dishing out $1000+ makes much sense, especially since I'll just be learning. It sits just below the LTD 400 Series and has a Fixed Bridge. I don't think a Floyd Rose trem is or me, as I understand they are very high maintenance for Drop Tuning, etc., so I think I made right choice.

my guitar pros and cons : im not going to tell you what it is but this is what i get: Pros: its got a decent distorted sound, its fairly balanced, its guitar tone is good for most genres of music, good for beginners, affordable cons: its almost impossible to do tapping solos because alot of the other strings tend to ring really loudly for no reason even when there not being touched, the distorted sound can buzz often, bad for experienced players. can u guess what it is.????

I wouldn't go for a locking tremolo on your first electric. They can be a pain to set up and restring. I'd get an Ibanez RG351DX. Decent pickups, easy to maintain and looks killer. Or maybe an Ibanez XG300 or XH300 if you want something oddly shaped.

If you're getting an LTD get a model over 200. (as in model number not price) I've got two LTD V's 300 and 200. Both pretty good. But for metal there is certainly a huge difference and the 300 model is MUCH better. Just go to a guitar store and try out various guitars.

To all the tube facists here: A solid state amp can sound as good as a Tube amp. The line six doesn't; but due to principals such as harmonic distortion if you make a solid state with a fairly linear electronics layout you can have similar tone to a decent quality valve amp. But nobody designs them well enough, so that sucks. But Dmo: Have you ever considered getting a program like Samplitude then using amp plugins like Le Pou's? They sound pretty sweet IMO.

i disagree that dean is a bad guitar. Yes, i know some dimebags are overpriced, but i have a razorback with custom graphics and a floyd rose special trem that works like a beauty. the only flaws that i have are the excessive pickup noise and the thing going out of tune once in a while because i need to change the strings, but otherwise it works like a beauty

Ok now that youre specifiying Heavy/Deathmetal dont argue against peavys. I myself have a Line 6 HD100 stack with a 1960a marshall cab. Ah, that sounds awesome... I saw a model 6 with a floyd rose bridge on ebay recently, maybe you could contact him and ask him about a few things? anyway, good luck!

nice video dude!!! i learned a lot with this.... but i have one question, you said that the bc rich mockingbird st is a bad guitar. but you also said that they are the guitars that you played but there is some differents, not all are the same. my question is if i will be able to find a good bc rich mockingbird st? and until i watch this video the guitar that i would buy is that. and now i don't know what to do, i was going to put EMGs and the most that i like of this guitar is the design thank!

@rolfeder I play metal on my mexi-strat because it's playability is the incredible. Add a carvin C22B in the bridge and a carvin AP11-2 in the neck and it will hang with any metal guitar.

I really don't think that a strat with two hums is a metal guitar.. And charvel in the late 70s (before Grover bought it) wasn't a guitar company. They were a guitar workshop famous for its customizations in strats. So again the first metal guitar was the Concorde

Cool vid! i'm considering an LTD JH600. You mentioned that Kahlers go out of tune when you bend. Isn't that also the case with a Floyd?? I had a Charvel many years ago that had a Floyd (probably liscensed), but I remember not liking the fact that it went out of tune when I bent strings.

To me, the ESP m2 comparison is quite biased. Volume knob too close?? Not a problem for me.However, it is your comparisons not mine..

Interesting comments on the '84 Gibson Explorer...or the 2008 re-issue thereof. I have an actual '84 that has none of the mechanical problems, but I agree there are definitely better heavy-metal guitars out there! Kudos for your playing, btw. Dude, you're tearing the necks of those guitars...

Thanks. But i have a Marshall, and i've heard that they are crap and aren't good for metal. Is that true? If not, can you repeat what i should do for a nice heavy metal sound, in more detail and less profanity lol? Thanks alot man!
