Good review. I like both of these. Just a quick note on pricing: here in Michigan the minimum shelf price for the WR is $39.99. The minimum shelf price for the BT is $26.99. Both can be found easily at that price, although some places mark up the BT a little. So, for me, that’s almost a 50% premium for the WR. I would always go for the Buffalo Trace with that price difference!

I will have to side with Woodford Reserve, in this matchup. In Louisiana, Buffalo Trace is typically about $23.99, when available.

Buffalo Trace is my choice for the best entry level bourbon coming in under 100 proof, beating out the WR, Jack #7 or Jim Beam white but it doesn't punch above that category and doesn't need to be sought after.

I keep both on my shelf. Buffalo Trace was one of the first bourbons I bought when I started into this hobby. It helps that it is available everywhere in the NW. Woodford is very good, I also like the double oaked.

Can you have thumbs 3/4 up? That's how I think of these two. I recently picked up a bottle of BT for $27 mostly because it was siting there, and I do enjoy it when I want an easy sipper. The odd thing about WR is that, unlike almost all other bourbons IMO, it loses almost nothing with ice. So while it's just okay most of the year, it's one of my favorites when it gets really hot out.

Here in upstate NY Buffalo Trace (the last one I bought months ago) was $49.00 for a 750ml bottle (good luck finding one now) a 375ml bottle is $28 and that's just as much theft as If I grabbed the bottle off the shelf and ran out the door without paying for it! I can buy a 1L bottle of Woodford Reserve for the same price as a 750ml BT. And I dont have to blind them to know which one is going to kick the others ass! Here's to Woodford Reserve 🥃Cheers!

LOL - Hey Josh, the way you say Stalwart rhymes with Malort, I think you're reminiscing about that Malort tasting a few live streams ago. If memory serves me, Erin absolutely loved Malort giving it the coveted two stinky feet up! Whoa...Erinberries! Livestream idea - Stuff & Whiskey in a local club on Karaoke night! With super chat singers - fantastic! I've told you guys before I write comments as I watch your videos, it's just a reaction and I hope it doesn't make me seem weird. And then the end...BT vs WR, I think they are both solid bourbons for their MSRP'S. Given the two, at MSRP, I'd prefer BT but if BT isn't available, or it's overpriced in a store, I'd take WR and not think twice about it.

I think both are good bourbons, but I prefer Woodford Reserve. And since Buffalo Trace is a unicorn here (I've seen it on the shelf just twice in almost two years) I wouldn't recommend it to a newbie *here* (elsewhere it might be common). However, *right now* I would recommend Bluff Springs over Woodford Reserve, because it's a good alternative to Buffalo Trace if you like the BT profile, and I think I actually like it better than I do Woodford. Now Erin has a good voice, but that song does nothing for me. And "matriculate" doesn't mean "trickle." 😂
@heatherharrison264 Жыл бұрын
Both of these are good basic bourbons that would be suitable as mixers or as introductions to bourbon for beginners. I've had Buffalo Trace in my collection before, and I have ordered Woodford Reserve in restaurants on a number of occasions. If I had to pick between them, I would likely choose Woodford Reserve, as its flavor profile is a little more to my taste. As for Buffalo Trace, it tastes good, but I find it somewhat boring. I like Eagle Rare better, and if not for irrational hype, it wouldn't cost much more. I don't understand the Buffalo Trace hype. After it had filtered down to their entry level products, I knew it had gone way too far. Buffalo Trace is intermittently available in my area (it is plentiful for a few months and then goes away for a while), but Eagle Rare only shows up in museums. Even though I like Woodford Reserve, I probably won't buy the basic entry level bottle for my collection (I would get one of the higher end versions instead). I see it as a restaurant bourbon. There are a lot of restaurants that only have a basic and uninteresting selection of wine and spirits. At places like these, Woodford Reserve and Maker's Mark are often the only bourbons that are a step up from the basic well bourbons. These will usually be the best options on the entire booze list. Old school steak houses often have this problem. The food is excellent, but the wine list sucks. When there is no good wine to be had, Woodford Reserve is a perfectly good pairing with a steak.

That's a great point on available pours out at restaurants Heather! Woodford would definitely go quite nicely with a good steak. Cheers!

I've been seeing Buffalo trace about $26 lately here in the Chicago area. Woodford reserve is about $30. Neither is my favorite in that price range. I am just not a fan of Woodford reserve. I prefer my bourbon a bit more on the sweet side. I would take BT over Woodford any day.
@stuffandwhiskey Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching Donald! Interesting that you say you prefer bourbon more on the sweet side and read Buffalo Trace as more sweet than Woodford. These were/are both quite sweet for both of us. Just a matter of which type of sweetness you prefer (Sweetarts vs banana bread). Always interesting how palates can differ. Appreciate you taking the time to comment. Cheers!
