The thing about Matts hole in one. It was only his 2nd drive of the day and the previous one hit the green on another par 4 and rolled past the boys in front as they were putting out. He doesn't even go after it. No idea how he generates such speed.

He averaged 192mph ball speed early on in good good. Check out the range video with dechampoo. Think he gets up to 197mph. He hurt his back no too long ago, so he has a different swing but I'd say he's still averaging a good 180mph or the odd one he can get after.

There's a guy who I regularly play with who was playing a pairs match earlier this summer, he holed an ace on the par 4 second, his partner aced the very next hole (par 3) to go 2 up after 3 holes with 4, 1, 1 on the card! That must be some crazy odds!

The odds don’t change with 6 good golfers. You’re just getting 6 chances at 6,000,000:1. Now for TWO, the odds would be that squared, or 36,000,000,000,000:1. That might be 2 on the same hole or the same round or over a lifetime- I’m not sure. But for some perspective, you’re more likely to have an IQ over 200, win the lottery, roll 8 8’s with 8 sided die, get 3 royal flushes in a row and get struck by lightning 3 times.

It’s 36 trillion for back to back hole in ones on two consecutive par 4’s. The odds of getting two hole in ones in a lifetime are related to how many par 4’s you play in a lifetime. Basically 1/12,000,000 x # of par 4’s you played

Bryson on that insane par five that goes around the lake - but he hits it across the lake (you all know the hole). There's a chance of a hole in one for someone like him, on that hole. He regularly gets it on or through the green or in the bunkers. (Just looked it up - it's the 6th in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.)

Working out the general odds for a hole in one is a moot point as far as I can tell. Because the odds of Rick getting a hole in one on a par 3 will be considerably less than me getting a hole in one on a par 3. But that being said, I believe their 2 hole in ones on par 4s to be greater than 1 billion-to-one. If we do take the odds of 6,000,000-1 to be correct, then we simply multiply the two numbers together, the odds of getting two hole-in-ones on par 4s is 6,000,000 x 6,000,000 which equals 3.6^13 or 360,000,000,000,000,

This is slightly misleading due to that a majority of par 4s are too long for even the possibility. A more accurate number might be the odds of a hole in one on a par 4 within driving distance. With all that being said, it certainly feels like a 1 in a billion moment.

The odds for a normal hole in one being 12500:1 are based on recorded averages of amateurs across all levels (obviously resetting after every shot). The TOUR PROFESSIONAL average is around 4500:1.

@@JFein Let's apply some logic shall we? Imagine Rick and I are on a 175 par 3, the green is fairly large and there are a couple of greenside bunkers. From 175 yards I will hit the green about one in every five to six shots, whereas Rick will hit it almost every time. Clearly the odds of it going in the hole increase if you get the ball on the green. Therefore Rick will have a better chance of holing it than I will. Even a shorter 140 yard green. Rick will still consistently getting nearer to the hole than I will. So whilst the odds might be a blanket 12,500/1, the chances are dependent on your skill, so it's impossible for those odds to be correct for everyone. Unlike getting a royal flush in poker, which has a fixed set of odds for everyone.

We have it beat though. @Rick Shiels we have a walk-off albatross (2 on a par 5) =, last hole / last shot in a tournament to tie for the win in the tournament. We hired a data scientist to figure out the odds to be down by 3 shots going into last hole in multi-day tourney and hit albatross as a walk-off... 600 million to 1. No one knows about our shot yet, so we started a podcast called "Did I tell you about my albatross"

Matt hits the ball close on a lot of par threes. He's been struggling a bit with his game but he's very good when he can reach a green from the tee. When it comes to that he's the best in good good. It's kind of odd and unexplainable.

The one on a par 3 had lots of people there. Matt's first had 3 camera angles clearly showing it. The recent one you could see the ball going towards the pin and there's just no ways those boys are good enough actors to fake that reaction after the fact.
