I LOVE this movie and my sister and I were SO in love with Jonathan Brandis. It's a shame what happened to him, he was actually a very good actor.

Sadly, being ‘good’ isn’t always enough. Stefanie Powers was also in this movie, she struggled for 20 years before getting ‘Hart to Hart,’ which made her ‘known’…at 37 years old!

Cool movie - authentic Czech medieval castles and great costumes. Also a great collection actors and a surprise to see teen heartthrob Jonathan Brandis playing the lead role of Wenceslas, a role very different to the one he played in SeaQuest 2032, the role that garnered him the most fame. So sad to see such obvious talent ended in such tragic circumstances. He was a very dashing Prince!

I saw most of this movie in 1994. Being a child bedtime curfew never got to see the rest. To my knowledge wasn't on TV a second. I only recently realized I remembered faces of specific people and two scenes...lucky me that I have a love for ladyhawke which helped me find this. Yes the music does overpower the audio. Lucky to just have VHS here on KZbin. Its not available anywhere I've looked online. Thank you for making this movie available

I remember when this debuted on the Family Channel in 1994. While it was on our TV, I was too preoccupied with my new “Don’t Wake Daddy” game to pay attention. Jonathan Brandis was very attractive. May he Rest In Peace.

I have to admit I only watched the movie because of Jonathan Brandis, but it actually turned out to be very good. My sister was not home so I taped it off the television for her, and I still have a player that will play that VHS. I don't think it's ever been released commercially.😕

Holy moly, I haven't seen this in ages! A few things come to mind... 1st, family movies back then were far more mature then they are now. 2nd, it's still terrible to know how miserable Jonathan brandis really was and 3rd, I never realized as a kid in the 90's just how good of an actor he really was.

Loved this movie and got it on video tape when it aired thanks to a friend of mine. Unfortunately its such a good movie, but alas after what happened to JB 😢and he didn’t want to be as the one said affiliated to this for some reason its as if its been loss to the the archives of time till now. Glad youtube hasn't blocked it. This was a Christmas movie I cherished amd grew up with. Its sad with how people believed back then stars could handle anything and everything, yet they forget stars are just as fragile and human as their fans, and back then the support for mental health care and awareness to help including for young stars just wasn't there.

If I recall correctly (and it's been a LONG time), I heard Jonathan Brandis hated this movie and didn't want to be associated with it (why I don't know because I was a huge fan of his, I really liked this movie and he won an award for it). I assumed at the time that's why it was so hard to find even 1-2 years after it aired. I could be wrong of course, but this is just how I remember it.

Don’t know if you are referring to the actor (Jonathan Brandis) Or his character?
@romanjancura96515 жыл бұрын
If you refer on Wenceslau, it had many reasons: Bohemia was on brink of civil war as he was not able to effective rule over chieftains and various warlords, Bohemia was paying tribute to Holy Roman Empire and German King Henry the Fowler, Wenceslau was incapable ruler. After Boleslau coup, Boleslau killed most of chieftains and dispersed their tribes and eliminated warlords, which consolidated power of Premyslid dynasty over Bohemia. He later stop paying tribute to German King Otto (son of Henry), conquered and secured Kiev trade routes, initiated early silver mining and builded strong economic and political base for Bohemia. But because of fratricide, he is very controversial.
@edennis85785 жыл бұрын
@@romanjancura9651 Bullshit. Bohemia had been divided between Wenceslas and Boleslav; Boleslav had Wenceslas murdered so that he could rule the entire territory. Where did you learn your history? Boleslav wasn't called Boleslav the Cruel for nothing. Wenceslas was beloved by his people; Boleslav was hated. Scrooge was a good businessman, too, but that didn't make him leadership material. Wenceslas made a treaty where yes, he paid tribute in order to buy peace, but so had the kings of England and France (danegeld). It didn't make the kings of England and France bad rulers, either.

Joan Fontaine didn't exactly finish her career on a high note.
@Garsons-oq4lh2 жыл бұрын
Do most actor's finish on a high note though? I'm afraid not. In a 1991 Spanish interview (also on youtube) Joan stated that she was done with acting either on-screen or the stage. Apparently Joan took this film to pay for earthquake damage to her home. Her last on screen performance had been in 1986 for television.
@eugenedowns25632 жыл бұрын
@@Garsons-oq4lh Interesting! Did not know the background of her decision to make this film. Thanks for the insight! She was certainly forthright, in addition to being a great talent. Totally agree with you about many actors, particularly women, finishing their careers in lesser projects. Bette Davis ("Wished Stepmother") and Joan Crawford ("Trog") are major examples.
@texan903 Жыл бұрын
By this time, Joan had won the Oscar and was nominated two other times. She had done work on television and stage, became a hole in one golfer, a ballooninst, a chef, a fisherwoman, a pilot, and an author. Acting was the least of her concerns. As noted by another commenter, Joan wanted to pay cash for her roof damages.

I am mostly fascinating that this **** was also produced with Czechs. It do not have anything common with Czech history.
@edennis85785 жыл бұрын
Of course it does. Slovakia and Bohemia were the two halves of the country when it was Czechoslovakia. My mother's family came from the Bohemian side of Czechoslovakia. Much of the extended family emigrated here about 100 years ago. My grandfather, as patriarch, went back to Czechoslovakia every couple of years to take care of family business, since many relations remained in the old country.
@edennis85785 жыл бұрын
Also, Bohemia was the original country that was known as the Czech lands. The Czech language has always been spoken in Bohemia, and the Bohemian people called themselves Czech, or Čech.
