Good lifter vs Bad lifter! Big block chevy lifter issues.

So far I've gone through 20 brand new lifters from 2 different brands and still only have 15 out of 16 working. In this video I show at least one of the problems. I'll post another update once I get this resolved.

Thanks for the education. I have had bad lifters, but I just replaced them. I wish I had kept one to take it apart. I am 52 and try to learn something new every day to fill the void of things I have forgotten.

@lelenbates3367 I'm right there with ya. I'm learning a lot trying to solve all the issues and challenges on this motor. I thought a BBC would be the simplest motor ever to build!

You should be using solid lifters anyway.

@joe-hp4nk I have thought about that. But since this is going in a truck (not a racecar) I don't want to be adjusting valves all the time. Its a shame we can't depend on hydraulic lifters anymore.

I use solid lifters with hydraulic cams and have been for 50 years. With poly locks they hold there lash. If you're a hotrodder you're checking the engine regularly anyway. I only have to adjust them once or twice a year at most. @@vikingmech

Need to buy better lifters! Cheap Chinese lifters equal junk!

@patrickm.8425 You're not kidding. The Howards lifters were recommended to me but they're junk. They're a Wisconsin company but they don't make their lifters. I think they are chinese. They make noise on every cold start so they're coming out of my motor and going in the trash. I now have a set of Johnson link bars going in.
