I think, too much prep may make matters worse. He is a old but seasoned and immensely experienced politician. Instead of pressuring him too hard for prep, Democrats should let him prepare in a more casual and relaxing way, allowing him to be himself with his exprience revealed in a more natural way. In that way he may perform better in the second debate. The situation would be similar to what happens when you prepare too hard the night before an examination. You stay up late at night and end up performing poorly on the actual exam day from fatigue and stress.
