A True MASTER of the Blues Harmonica - for sure ! 🤠

I Love everything Pigpen does - his singing, harp playing, organ playing - every note just dripping wirh Soul. Love it when his B-3 kicks back in later on. Thanks so much for posting this. Notice they never got a harmonica player to replace him ? I see why - he was truly irreplaceable.

The unfortunate passing of Pigpen created the biggest hole in the Dead. One wonders what sort of relationships he might have had with the talent the Dead had on the keyboards, and what direction would the Dead have taken with Pigpen still doing his thing on the mic.

There's a list of Garcia's guitars up. Can check them out. Just google Garcia's guitars in history or something like that. He used to play this amazing sg way back that is so gritty. Am a huge fan of his main Travis bean and his iconic guitar Wolf. Tiger is my favorite. I don't know much about guitars so I don't know what a semi hollow is. I wonder if it was that aluminum guitar he had for awhile. Anyway he played some real cool ones. I like how they could be rea mean and dirty but also rea clean and sweetly. That's his influence on them of course but it's amazing the scope of those guitars just as I listen to other guitars. Thanks. I don't know what am talking about. : )

@jimmymurphy778922 күн бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. While I really do like each of Jerry's different guitar style/guitars "Eras", for me it's the 1st & 2nd LP ones (Starfire III & Les Paul) forever. That fat, rich, aggressive, Bluesy edge is like Adrenaline to my Soul. Later, he mellowed-out, playing cleaner (no more cranked up/sustaining tie-died Twin Reverb amps blaring away), Thinner tone (Strat/Strat-like single coil pickups), playing more Jazzy/Bouncy/Bubbly/"Boingy"("Strat"-ty) & very, very Beautiful - as if he finally "Peaked" after a huge LSD Rush & now there are beautiful multicolored Butterflies etc floating around out of his Guitar. Just Perfect - Jerry could never do wrong. However - give me that Adrenaline Rush of LP's 1 & 2 and like a good strong "Mug-O'-Cawfy" - I'll be "Set for the Day" 🤠 !

Robert Hunter also had a deep affection for Janis. yiu'll have to research his as its been years and I don't remember he specifics but some musicians and crew were overdosed by an assassin backstage a show where big brother and the dead were to play.. It was way way too much- many tens of thousands of mics per person. Quite a few people were instantly paralyzed from performing. Janis flipped out because her drummer was a puddle and they were to play that night. She ran in backstage and started yelling at Hunter just as he was going down. He said it was unreal to see her that upset in his state. He didn't tell me but another person told me what he saw which was pretty intense. But he had immense feeling for her so it really hit him hard to hear her using rapid fire curse words on him and win her big clothes on and he just dropped. The security for the place got confused and threw him out the back door where he lay dying in the alley. The spirit muse of the Grateful Dead saved him and he wrote a song for her there- Stella Blue. I know all those guys had a lot of good feelin for Janis. She was the real deal cool as they come hippie sister.
