I'm a soprano with years of singing and lessons behind me. Lately I've been experiencing roughness in my lower passagio (middle C area for me) and looked for help from all the coaches on line. Mark is the first person to help me resolve this issue. And I love how he just jumps right in without any unnecessary talking. And having the text on screen is a wonderful addition. I would recommend him to any singer, both aspiring and long-time, or choral director. Thank you Mark!

After 5-7 months of not practicing, my voice is gravel-y, cracks, harsh so after hearing the 50th celebration allows me to be the clown and relax and keep practicing without judging myself. I love to sing. It’s healing. Once you commented to me to move forward from my past. PTSD sent me down into quicksand darkness for that 5-7 months that I didn’t practice. I did journaling and watched everything from brain plasticity to motivational creative artist speakers. I am healing and able to return to your generous, genius talent. Your vocal lessons are not just for singers. They help us heal ourselves through developing new neural pathways form in our brains through creativity. You also makes me feel safe. Just seeing your kind and smiling expressions and hearing your voice. I’m 68 pushing 69 and I haven’t felt safe all my life. So if you are reading this, Mark, I feel like I can live joy and true happiness for the rest of my life because of you and your lessons. You helped me save my life. I no longer contemplate suicide. I won’t be singing professionally and say in front of thousands that you got me there. I can say in front of thousands on utube that you helped save my me on the stage of life. My gratitude to you is enormous!

@You Sure About That? my abuse was inflicted by both parents. Music is very healing and scans have been run while music is playing tracking the brain neural activity displaying positive brain activity. using terminology of the brains neuro plasticity is the great research being conducted which explains the brains ability to rewire and heal. Participating in these lessons and the framing of the light hearted delivery that Mark is masterful with is very healing. Laughter combined with making musical sounds while strengthening your vocal chords is a multi purpose positive exercise you can give your body and brain. Add to this that Mark cares deeply about each of his students which is so validating to be seen and heard. I wish you peace and healing. Besides this very therapeutic approach there are somatic healing counseling that you can search on Utube to accompany Mark’s program. I believe that Mark is a very strong candidate for the presidential Medal of Honor from his dedication to the arts, providing these lessons that are very time consuming to put together over many many years to gift all of us to enjoy and benefit from.

I was a pro singer until about 12 months ago. I had to take a break due family commitments. Since then my daily singing/vocal exercise routine has gradually faded away. This was my daily routine 5/6 days a wk (0n none performance days) 10 mins warm up, 15 mins vocal exercises, 30 mins singing, a 10 min break, 45 mins singing, 10 min cooldown = 2hrs. Now with family stuff all sorted from tomorrow it starts again and this is where I'll be starting. Time to slowly and gradually rebuild that vocal strength and stamina. Thanks Mark.

I do this everyday. 3 X 15min video rounds so 45 mins in total. However I've adapted it to use Mark's piano scale to do the first round all with 'lips rolls'. The second 15 min round I use Mark's vocalisations on this video which give my vowels a good even work out. And lastly I again use the background piano scales to work my chord closure with bhuh and ghuh sounds. I'm working developing my upper register which I'm seeing I can start hitting the higher notes like never before. Great video, Thanks for sharing this 🌟
@neil84965 жыл бұрын
@Joe Lynock yes I have for instance certain songs I would sing I can see it's much easier to hit higher notes and voice is more natural too. It's like going running around a regular route or lifting the same weight you can judge that you are moving forward and improving because it's the same. I had gone to you for vocal lessons maybe 12-14 years ago. Your lessons were unlike any I ever had. You noticed every little quirk I was doing wrong and had me work through them - instead of just blowing through arpeggios and singing as high and low as possible, without paying attention to the details. I wish I had been able to keep going all these years because those few lessons were the most valuable I've ever received. Years later... having some serious issues with my voice, particularly my head voice and falsetto, and stumbled across your videos by happy accident. I could barely get a note out up there. And within two days of doing a couple of your warmups, my voice is starting to work again. Hands down... the best vocal coach out there. And a very nice person.

@@voicelessondotcom one thing I am definitely seeing is the voice is literally like a hiking trail if that makes sense, so some parts of the voice are rough because air has never passed through that part of our voice before or at least consistently passed through that part of your voice which causes one's voice to crack or produce a gravely sound. For me in particular I always struggled to get good cord closure when singing higher but the "ahh" part off the warmup really helped me build better cord closure when going high because I actually started allowing air to pass through that part of my voice more consistently by doing this twice a day and the results is truly shocking. So I will just learn to practice areas of the voice that I don't access regularly so that the pathways will become smoother resulting in better vocal control. So consistency is truly key to develop stronger control in areas which are weak in one's voice. So really Thanks for this🙏💯

This is yet another exercise I've added to my daily, pre-gig warmup and I recently discovered something I thought I'd share... A couple of times, during this exercise, I noticed myself getting a bit of a light headed "buzz." At first I thought, "Cool! I'm so into this I'm getting a natural high!" This was followed by yawning. Not so cool. Why? I wasn't taking in enough air in-between scales! If you notice yourself having a similar issue, be sure to take in enough air to comfortably sing the scales with breath to spare. Especially if you're doing this while driving to a gig!!! Also, on the last section, where you cycle through the vowels, when transitioning from the "eee" to "ahhh" don't put a "y" in front of the "ahh" (essentially creating a "yah" sound to "slingshot" yourself through. Rather, try and make a smooth transition from "eee" to "ahh" thus ensuring that the tongue mind its own business and stay out of the action.

Good tips, especially on the light headed thing. You’re literally expected to vocalize for a solid 15 minutes, and breath control is also tested here.

oh my god this is the best warm up video. thank you for singing the whole i didnt realize how subconsciously helpful that is. i am so naturally impatient that you not saying a single word was so helpful and to be able to get notes while i do it!! i dont have to stop and start. i did this laying on the ground to really feel my breath and it was very calming and almost meditative. this is a great warmup to do for anyone. its nice to feel ur voice so readily available

Holy crap. So simple, so effective. Thanks Mark! Day 2: I just did this twice through and figured out to maintain even lower effort and just let the rasp happen. It destroys some of the notes, but I just carry on trying not to let it matter. Same low effort, easy, flutey notes. The rasp is actually starting to clear up!!! This really is the single best vocal warmup, and I’ve tried ‘em all!
