I SIMPLY LOVE HIS TEACHING STYLE! This is similar to how we learn singing 'Taan' in classical Indian singing but I never learnt and grasped anything so effortlessly! He shows what a true teacher is capable of! If I ever met him in India, I would've touched his feet (as a gesture high respect even though girls aren't supposed to do so in India) and accepted him as my guru in real life _/|\_ :)

There’s interesting parallels between singing and spirituality, ain’t there? We are all born in such a natural innocence, and we all make such uninhibited sound when young. And learning to sing often feels like learning to meditate - “if you think your doing it right, your not”. Even the idea of ‘singing well’ is kinda like this idea of ‘enlightenment’, that itself becomes just another block/inhibition of the mind. I wonder if there’s even deeper inhibitions - of course being identified with being a bad singer is awful, but perhaps even identification itself could be an idea that creates inhibitions?

Mark great stuff, appreciated as always, but you still have to put out more for intense Rock singing. I wish I could understand how this ultimately turns into that capability.
@voicelessondotcom5 жыл бұрын
I will put it on "to do" list but if you mean turns into extreme rock growls - it doesn't. That's produced by a completely different behavior. But by "intense" you mean the melodic stuff that came before extreme rock - agility is the foundation. I know it seems counter intuitive because everything is focused on big high notes with distortion. But the basic law of anatomy is that once you loose flexibility you loose control. It's the little muscles that refine any big behavior. So gradually do the exercise above louder and louder (without sacrificing articulation). When you get to your peak volume then gradually ask for more and more distortion. The point at which you loose control and the exercise just crashes is your strength threshold. Repeating this daily will develop more strength - but singing past your current ability never sounds cool.

Hi Mark, thank you again for all these exercises.I love this exercise-seen no smoke so far! Sometimes I turn off the sound to check and make sure I don't get sloppy but actually sing every note. I noticed that I like to tap my foot, wave my hand or hit the table in time with the rhythm. However, the question occurred to me, is that a good idea? Should I just sing and not expend energy with other parts of my body?

@voicelessondotcom3 жыл бұрын
Lay flat on your back when warming up and start a very low volume. If your throat doesn't hurt doing that then gradually vocalize louder but stay on your back. If you throat still hurts then you should get some help from a vocal coach.

Question: what would you recommend for a daily vocal workout - or would you even recommend daily? I perform 2 times per month but need to keep in tip top shape in between. I love your vids and wonder if, for some of them, I should already be warmed up before attempting those exercises? (Ok, more than one question).
@voicelessondotcom5 жыл бұрын
I recommend doing a variety of exercises for about an hour a day. I have several playlists on this channel you can use to rotate routines. If you're not already warmed up just start a routine lightly and work into a more challenging volumes. No harm in starting cold as long as you ease into the difficult stuff.
@fooBar553 жыл бұрын
@@voicelessondotcom Okay saw the play list - quite big list. Are there a couple of warms that you always start with so that you get a very basic warm up first and then can pick from the others in the playlist. Maybe use the "Good morning Voice" first each time?
@voicelessondotcom3 жыл бұрын
@@fooBar55 It's not the melody that matters - it's your behavior that allows a proper warmup. Start with what's comfortable - which is dependent on your condition. Start al a low volume and graduate louder while monitoring comfort. When your range is comfortable at a loud volume - you are ready to perform.

Glad to help Melissa - but I suspect you are still too aggressive on your voice. It may be the faster speed that lured you into pushing more. Release your neck, jaw and tongue as you vocalize and take it slow. Recovery doesn't happen all at once!

Voice Lesson.com curious if it’s possible to damage your larynx muscles?
@voicelessondotcom4 жыл бұрын
@@melissapelino5713 Better to use the same terms as in your arm or leg. You wouldn't say you damaged your thigh or your bicep. You can pull a muscle, strain it, rip it, bruise it, etc - but none of those are damage and none are permanent. There are muscles in your larynx but also membranes and ligaments and cartilage. Everything has to work together - so it's more likely you irritated a muscle and that disrupted the delicate balance necessary to sing clearly.

If you get dizzy while vocalizing it means you're allowing too much air to escape while singing. Very little air should stream out your mouth, but in order to relax singers will often overcompensate the release and dump air in the process. So practice with a candle or sheet of toilet paper draped in front of your mouth - and don't let the candle flicker or the TP move. Helps reduce how much air you're allowing to escape. Also beneficial to inhale through your nose. It slows the inhale and warms and moisturizes the air.

So I have this song I need to sing at a memorial and I don’t know how to get through it without bawling. Any advice on this?
@voicelessondotcom5 жыл бұрын
When I sang at my mother's funeral I had to go completely technical in my thinking. I focused on my breathing, where I felt the resonance, the beats of sustained notes - and I got through it without collapsing. To me there's an opposite rule when performing: the less emotional the circumstance the more emotional the singing. In a situation like a memorial - the circumstance is already loaded with emotion - so your role is to simply sing the song. The downside is that you don't get to participate in the event (emotionally) until after you sing. But it's always an honor to be asked to sing.

@voicelessondotcom4 жыл бұрын
You don't have to sing high notes loudly - you can let them sound bad as you develop some much needed coordination. So focus on keeping your face and neck relaxed and the volume consistent and your skills will improve.
