Awww Carrie, horrible teachers. I had a teacher write "don't ask too many questions" on my primary school leavers shirt. Two degrees and a thesis later, I am still asking questions and won't ever stop!

It’s really sad that Carrie’s teachers weren’t supportive of her in primary school. It could have knocked your confidence so much and it’s just not okay. They should have been celebrating your talent instead of putting you down about it like your secondary school teachers were!

Thank you so much, your advice has ended my severe addiction to licking my garden, after years of hard work, and downfalls like climbing trees naked and farting when I feel ill, I have become a better person

Best advice came from All I Know Now: that if you hurt someone, even if you didn't mean to, you still need to say sorry for having hurt them. You wouldn't step on someone's foot accidentally, and then say 'well I didn't mean to step on your foot'. To this day I still know fully grown adults who haven't grasped that. Worst advice: I remember in a divising workshop that I didn't feel comfortable dancing, and had a peer snap at me that 'well if you want to be a performer in this industry you have to be able to do it all'. That's just not true, it's better to hone your craft and be really great at your thing, then try to be okay enough at everything- especially when it's something you don't enjoy. I don't want to be a dancer, I don't even particularly want to be in musicals. I want to be an actor, writer, and comedian- I've never seen Sarah Millican or Pheobe Walker Bridge tap dance, so I'm not going to waste my time learning how 😂

Oliver's advice about the wrong ladder/ right ladder really struck a chord with me. Last year i was trying to get a show on it's feet entirely on my own, whilst also working full time... which i don't think a lot of people realise is an insane thing to do. I reflected and realised the part of making the show that i really enjoyed the most was the writing... so since then i've been writing a novel and short stories and feel like it better suits my lifestyle and future goals.... not to mention i can be in my comfies and sat in my own office 90% of the time :')

I had a teacher a bit like that. She told me I wasn’t allowed to dance at primary school. I was (and still am) a competitive dancer and did loads of shows and commercials and stuff. Like I wasn’t allowed to have good parts in the school shows and my teacher said I wasn’t allowed to dance in the playground. My mum went mad! Got to secondary school and they were like ‘run with it!’ I was allowed to take part in everything. I was actively encouraged to.

That disgusts me. As someone who has taught for 10 years, I will never understand educators for trying to silence passion or talent. To me, that makes them bad at their jobs by default.

I remember being really badly bullied at school to the point where the kids involved would try to trip me up when I was going down the stairs. And it got so bad that I told my mum I wanted to move schools. She contacted my head of year and I got pulled in for a meeting, My head of year told me to "just put your head down and eventually they'll ignore you." and she brought no disciplinary action to the bullies.

I had a friend who would say the phrase "buy once cry once". Similar to the "buy it cheap, buy it twice". And I have stood by that even though in the moment buying the expensive item may have hurt my bank account but in the end now I have this item that I will never have to replace and will last me the rest of my life or for a very long while.

Some goodies: Don't take criticism from someone you wouldn't take advice from. I'd rather be happy than right. An opinion is not a fact. If you always do what you've always done - you'll always get what you've always got. Oscar Wilde: Hard work is simply the refuge of people who have nothing whatever to do. And my fave, from Mark Twain: Don't argue with stupid people... they will beat you with experience Xx
