Definitely my favorite Alex Ross comic. The characters he introduced at the end look interesting and I would like to see more of them. You're right about the Hanna Barbera influence and Toth has a hand in that too

This a great book all around. Instead of another superhero slugfest Alex provides a thoughtful science fiction story. His model for Reed Richard's is Gary Conway who played Steve Burton in "Land of the Giants". Here's hoping for a sequel.

This is really a step up from his normal style, so much more clarity in the layout that both improves the storytelling and really embraces a classic comic book feel.

How have they not done Kingdom Come? That book was the biggest thing ever when it came out and I always loved it. I don’t get crazy excited of ross’s art anymore but kingdom come still works perfectly for me. Maybe one day

I recall reading that Alex Ross pitched Marvel for him to take over the Fantastic Four monthly comic book. Marvel rejected his pitch. This artwork looks gorgeous.

This book has such a unique quality to it. It both feels retro and ultra modern! This must be the most unique comic in years from the big 2. Also, love that Alex put his name in a circle in the lower right corner of the cover just as "the king" use to do. Fantastic book, left me wanting more! Great stuff!!!!!!

I enjoyed the hell out of this, fun read. I'm not much of an Alex Ross fan, but I think this is the best work he has ever done, inspired stuff. I hope he does more in this style - the Neal Adams influence is obvious along with Kirby of course. Rugg is so right with the black light inks, that should happen!

I could be completely off base here but I was watching one of Alex's vids and he was inking the Thing and it appeared he was putting in those grey tones with a brush, I don't think it's pencil. Edit Alex put out a video today where he talks about how he did the grey tone that looks like pencil and it is dry brush not pencil

Best FF comic in forever; made me feel like a kid again opening up a Jack Kirby Treasury Edition or those album reprints they did of the Adams' X-Men. If Steranko ever returns to comics before he passes, this is the level of craft and production value I'd expect. Oh, and the alien guy being based on Leonard Nimoy? Pretty sure it's actually Native American actor Wes Studi, which makes sense given the little speech about the planet's inhabitants being descended from their dimension’s Iroquois.

I still haven't read it but I'm looking forward to it. My only complaint is the sound effect vector font lettering. It stands out so much and is such a bummer, especially for a project like this. I think they should have hand drawn the sound effect lettering to better integrate the effect with the art. Seeing the repeat E in SKREEEE is gross. The same thing happened to me with Dustin Nguyen's art in Robin & Batman. He did these amazing watercolor pages that were then defiled by cheap vector sound effects, totally takes me out of the story. I know it is not a big deal for a lot of people but it has been pissing me off for a while now. I'm fine with dialogue fonts but for SFX, I'm against it.

❤ Excellent review, guys! I’ve been pushing for this book since I heard about it last year! Alex Ross really stretches himself and he doesn’t have to and that’s what I love about his work! Very positive enthusiasm towards whatever he illustrates and I’ve heard dumbass over the hill fanboys piss n moan about Ross and just laugh at them at being fn narrow minded criticisms! It’s only a couple guys pooping and that’s just how silly it is. Ross excels and I hope to see him do more creative stories in the future! This book brought back a lot of great memories and just how unique the FF can be going forward with a creative dynamic! Thanks! And keep reading and making comix!👍😎🎯❤️⚡️💎

Where have I heard the name 'Ricardo Jones' before? Given Rick's later connection to the Negative Zone when he was bonded with Captain Marvel, might this suggest Ricardo is a future version of him… and did he want to be The Thing because he needed to return to the Negative Zone to complete some mission but with Mar-Vell dead he needed protection in the form of Ben's rocky hide? And the Nega-Bands are sliced up Cosmic Control Rods?

You guys are wrong about the use of pencil. I went to watch some of Alex Ross' videos on this book and he explained that it's all drybrush. Interestingly, though, he also revealed that he wasn't using actual ink but jet black gouache. So he's kind of cheating in a way and still sticking to the comfort of paints. This also explains the atypical drybrush marks.
