In the UK, Dark horse published the Aliens magazine, magazine sized reprints of the US stories, usually a chapter or half chapter at a time, 3 to 4 storylines running concurrently with extra articles and prose stories to fill out the issue. They also did Terminator and another called Total Carnage that covered alot of the smaller franchises.

if anyone wants to see a lot of different takes on Aliens, i recommend Aliens: Havoc . its a 2 issue series with a new artist on (i think) every other page.

Kilian Plunkett from Aliens:Labyrinth (written by Jim Woodring😮) would have been nice to see! He didn’t do many comics but what we have is pretty great!

I was really hoping you guys would talk about "Aliens: Apocalypse - The Destroying Angels" Writer: Mark Schultz, Artist:Doug Wheatley. Superman vs. Aliens was also a great little story with amazing art. I love it's take on on Argo City and Supergirl.

You guys should check out the 2 issue mini Aliens: Havoc. It's got everyone who was doing work at Dark Horse at the time (sans Mignola, Miller, and Byrne): Fegredo, Totleben, Art Adams, Allred, Darrow, Peter Bagge, Kelley Jones, Guy Davis, Kevin Nowlan, Frank Teran, Travis Charest, P. Craig Russell, Jon J. Muth, Sergio Aragones, John Paul Leon, fucking Mœbius (!), and more. Each does one page. Could do a "Guess Who?" game with it.

Kelley Jones and the Hive issues have stuck with me since I was a kid. The early Dark Horse comics really nailed the atmosphere of the first two (and third!) films

Before watching the video I'll say Mike Mignola with Aliens Salvation. Every character he interprets is my favorite version of that character. Plus, his heavy spotting blacks is perfect for the Aliens aesthetic.

Another amazing video, guys! If you're taking suggestions, I'd love to see you cover Tim Sale's work at some point. Batman The Long Halloween is probably the book people are most familiar with but I'd also recommend Superman for All Seasons, Catwoman When in Rome, and his Marvel work. I feel like he was a truly unique cartoonist working in the mainstream and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

I'm still not used to Dark Horse no longer being the top publisher of licensed comics. Just decades of great comics out of print because one company wants to monopolize all entertainment. I guess the Mignolaverse and publishing some of the bigger manga titles is what's keeping the lights on right now. I doubt Viz and Kodansha will continue using a third party to publish their comics in the west, tho.

I've been reading a bunch of the old Aliens comics recently, spurred on by the computer game that came out recently (which is pretty good!), and Phil Norwood's work on the first three issues of the first Aliens vs Predator mini are really good. He goes off-model at points for the look of the characters but the flow of action from panel to panel is fantastic.

Ronnie del Carmen did two Aliens one shots that look like no other Aliens comics out there… he worked on Batman: The Animated Series as a storyboard artist and they have a bit of that flavor. Gabriel Hardman did a mini-series toward the end of Dark Horse’s run with the property that’s suitably grimy and fun.

23:16 You should consider checking out the Godzilla run that James Stokoe did (Godzilla: Half Century War)... Actually, a best of Godzilla and Transformers comics would be nice. That then could lead to more deep dives on specific issues or runs.

Aliens Earth Angel was originally serialized in th Previews catalog back in 92 or 93. Dark Horse then collected the whole thing into a single comic. There were actually a few things DH did like that in the Previews catalog. AvP also had a serialized strip titled Booty.

There was a Predator one-shot illustrated by Jim Somerville, Invaders from the Fourth Dimension, similar to Aliens Earth Angel in that it's set in the 1950s. A little boy can see the cloaked Predator thru 3D glasses. Iirc Earth Angel was not previously published in either of Dark Horse's anthology series.

The Verhaiden/Beauvais Aliens series is what got me back into reading comics. I think I kind of reread these issues obsessively, I didn't know comics could be like that. The airbrushed art was stunning. Dark Horse had so many good artists working with them during this era, from Mark Nelson and Den Beauvais Aliens stuff to Chris Warner on Predator, Frank Miller drawing Sin City or Mignola doing episodes of Hellboy for DHP....just an incredible time to be reading comics.
