Good Place To Overtake?

A driver attempts an overtake of two cyclists but fails... my question is: Was this a good moment to overtake?

The UK road system seems underdeveloped to me. Parking on both sides of the road with minimal space inbetween for motorists and cyclists. You don't really have anywhere to go incase something jumps out in front of you.

Much better use of this roundabout Silvio but I feel a quick shoulder check was missing from the exit of the roundabout. Could have easily taken a cyclist and yourself out 👍🏻 Did you upload this because of Ashley Neals analysis?

This is the SAME roundabout as in the video where Ashley Neal accused Silvio of manufacturing content. Again a Mercedes!. Hilariously this Mercedes took EXACTLY the same line thru the roundabout that Silvio did (in both videos). So this Mercedes was "manufacturing content" too? Two lanes approaching the roundabout, both have straight arrows, the left one also a left turn arrow. Both lanes feed into the two lanes of the roundabout. In this video, traffic at the next entrance to the roundabout cedes right of way to the Mercedes and Silvio as they should. The exit has two lanes, the right one becoming a right turn lane further along. This Mercedes (and Silvio) change lanes in the roundabout (dashed lines) so as to go straight ahead after the roundabout. If cycling, I too would take the right lane on the entrance so as to (a) be more visible to traffic entering from the left (greenery growing on the island) and (b) have more clearance from them if they decide to ignore my right of way, as Mercedes #1 did.

Different line. Still wrong as does, silvio. Both potentially cut up traffic by exiting onto the wrong lane as both lanes before go ahead. In the previous video silvio switches left right left. Also wrong. Tbh it's hard to find anyone in that clip using the road appropriately. You.could potentially use the right lane so long as you exit on to the right but then you have you yield to traffic in the left lane before changing.

The clip Ashley critiques is totally different. Silvio's speed, entry, and exit points, then the road rage. It's all different. The Mercedes also indicates, something Silvio fails to do. If you can't see the difference, then you need to cycle more.

The "confusion" which you and Ashley stated was that the car entering that roundabout was thinking that Silvio was turning right as he was on the inside lane, So they entered the roundabout cutting up Silvio thinking that Silvio would continue to remain inside the roundabout. Well, This is a three arm roundabout. There are ONLY three exit roads for this roundabout, That's the last exit before Silvio going back up the road he came from, was he indicating right to do a u-turn? no, So he was going straight, without confusion. Also, What was the Mercedes indicating? RIGHT. To correctly indicate for that 2nd exit, You wound not need any indicators on. Meaning If as you said Silvio wasn't indicating, He was in fact indicating correctly as the indication for "straight" on 2nd exit is "no indication".

Just didn’t like being behind a cyclist! What was the point? The other motor vehicles in front meant he couldn’t get any further than the cyclists anyway. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I don't think the merc should have over taken, there wasn't event room. I also don't think the cyclists should have over taken the Merc near the start of the video.

Classic MGIF. There are some who will say don't moan about it, just make it a non-event and get on with your day. But when you see this sort of poor driving every day, then you want to do something about it. It's needlessly aggressive driving, putting others at risk, for absolutely no reason (not that there's ever a reason for it).

@@DougieL no, I'm talking about the Merc driver, tailgating cyclists and overtaking into a gap that didn't exist. The two cyclists that filtered past just after the roundabout were riding fine.

@@shm5547 I thought that the cyclist with the video camera was riding fine through and post roundabout and that the cyclists were taking a risk. (Just my opinion, as a fellow cyclist.) Have a pleasant day!!

@@DougieL it's putting others at risk that's the issue here. In some ways, just the act of getting on a bicycle is putting yourself at risk. Those cyclists filtering after the roundabout didn't put anyone else at risk and were obviously comfortable with their own riding.

Actually I'm not here for the ridiculous nitpicking critiques from commenters who clearly don't cycle in urban traffic. I'm here to see situations which I may encounter on the road (yes I ride a lot and have for many years) and figure out how to deal with them.

two cyclists illegally passing the cars first cyclist is safely passed by the car second cyclist fails to shoulder check or signal swerves in front of the car, forcing the car to slow down cyclist then continues on the wrong side of the road there is only a lack of due care and attention by the cyclists if not dangerous cycling shown in the video. car driver has done nothing wrong.
