I am of the generation that remembers the food queues in Russia. I remember Kruschev banging his shoe on the table. Nureyev defected in an airport and danced for us all. I protested outside the Russian Embassy In Canberra waving a blue & yellow flag. Other flags were Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Australian and Hungarian. It was encouraging to hear the car horns blaring their support for Ukraine as they passed. It was peaceful. I will be turning up again. I liked the way the Ukrainians sang. One person was considered an honorary Ukrainian for raising $70,000 to buy mine detecting equipment.

Just a few questions for the negative folks commenting: Is your country being invaded? Do you live in a totalitarian state? Are you a refugee? Is your country being bombed every day, missiles killing civilians? Do you live in fear of being killed every day? Is a foreign country creating a crisis with killing so many parents that there is a crisis with orphans? Is your income either gone or vastly diminished? Was your business smashed to pieces with bombs. Is your infrastructure being attacked? Electricity? Water? Gas? Just wondering.

Problem is its not black and white. Putin has a hold over his people. he keeps a fine rope on the poverty line making sure his people care more about their way of life, working to pay the bills and providing for their families etc. many russians do not have time to think about things like politics and freedoms. Some may think this is stupid, but those who think its stupid dont live a life like this and dont understand how massive that is and how it gives putin free reign over the country. The people arnt invested in what hes doing they are invested in living. In rural parts of russia it wouldnt surprise me of the didnt even know there was a war going on. Poorer towns and villages done even have a toilet in their house. One thing worth mentioning is by demonizing the russian people we once again push them into the hands of putin. Its like when the west was fighting Isis, Taliban and Alqaeda. Terrorism branded mid easterns with the terrorist brush, they became alientated and fell more susceptible to being indoctrinated into joining these terrorist cells. This is the same in russia, the more the west alienates russian the more we push them towards putins agendas and his brainwashing propaganda. By causing hate we are feeding the cycle and it only ends up further benefiting Putin. At the same time by not allowing russians to leave their country even if itsbecuase they evade mobilisation this is causing russia enormous brain drain. They are loosing young, intelligent minds, minds that dont want to fuel a war machine, this is good for ukraine and its good for the west as we tap into knowledge and development. Another reason it benefits ukraine is it effects the russian economy, the less people in russia the less money there is meaning the war fund gets smaller drawing putin close to draining his resources. The more we take from russia the better it is for everyone, the west taps into newer intelligent minds, the economy collapses making putins war more and more unsustainable and for russia, it shows that putins war is hurting russia more then it is benefitting them. When putin starts to take everything this is when the people will start to think about their future.

Steve Scerbak, THANK YOU SO MUCH for bringing these points to bear!!! Too many people are ONLY looking at the FIANANCIAL costs of the war in Ukraine, And not the HUMAN cost! They are also foolish enough to believe that the war will not affect THEM--- And are not realizing that Putin WILL NOT STOP AT UKRAINE, but that Putin will bring his maniacal agenda to the REST OF THE WORLD if he is not STOPPED NOW! There's a very good independent Russian KZbin channel 1420 that does lots of interviews e.g. on the streets of Moscow and various rural regions. It seems that so-called ordinary Russians are either too scared to say anything about politics or they believe all the official propaganda what they see on Russian tv channels. Especially older people on the countryside seem to act and think like they still live in the Soviet Union. It is quite revealing to see how passive most of Russians are, and many of them seem to believe Putin knows the best no matter what happens in Russia or Ukraine. Personally I think it very important to support Ukraine all the possible ways to win the war. Ukrainians are fighting for the whole free Europe, and Putin's plans need to be stopped. Finally, Olga, you are doing the great work on your channel!

Yes, I guess 1420 will show you that majority exactly supports the war, so people are aware of what is happening and they are fine with that. Based on their answers you can understand why 143 millions can not do anything against government - because they are very fine with everything.

I unsubscribed to a couple Russians who spewed the Putin rhetoric but these ones I listed are actively helping through protests, donating to Ukrainian organizations & trying to make a difference. 2 others who aren't Russian that I follow for war news are Artur Rehi (he just did an interview with the Estonian chancellor which was a must watch in my opinion) & Denys Davydov. The only other Russians I follow are Niki Proshin, he attended protests in St. Petersburg before he left Russia (not all his content is war related but he has made it clear he supports Ukraine & he has attended protests since leaving Russia too) & Dari Step (again not all her content is war related but she has also attended protests & made donations).

@@becomingsophiesceliaclife I know Zack the Russian and Artur Rehi already, but to be honest, NFKRZ en Victoria are exactly the russian bloggers, which whom I don't know what to think about. To me their content is more about them: their problems, how difficult their situation is, where they had to go through etc. I hear little/nothing about how their country is causing a lot of 'difficulty' and terror to Ukrainian people and I also miss a clear word of them against it. And yes, they may donate to Ukraine, but I am a little bit doubtful about the motives... My point was, above all, to hear how Ukrainians think about these vloggers.. But thanks either way :)

Natasha and 1420 are great, actually, and it's more annoying when the same Western media that stereotypes Afghans, Saudis, and even Americans for the wars related to their countries, potray Russian people as helpless, holy people. After bombing Grozny to the ground, shelling airports and villages in Georgia, denying their part in Holodomor and Chernobyl, hitting hospitals in Syria and elsewhere, and re-electing the same guy in 2018... It's just fantastical seeing people from nuclear powers explain how because they have some nice buildings, Russians are actually just a perfect nation held hostage by the Kremlin gremlin. If that's the case, are all these war-free countries ready to sign their own version of the 'Budapest Memorandum'

There are some very genuine Russian KZbinrs out there like: Natasha's Adventures, Zack the Russian, the Russian Insider, 1420, NFKRZ (Roman). These people (young people I might add) have been and are still openly critical against the Russian govt. Yes they have all fled Russia (except 1420), but even outside of Russia they still play an active part against the govt. While they are not on the streets in Moscow openly protesting about the govt, they are not locked up (silenced) behind bars either. Without these channels we would not have any insight as to what is happening in that country at all except for what the govt wants us to see. They are the foil against channels which promote Russia in a favorable light.

OMG, it was real and happening to people like you, not so different from us. Tell me that isn't drama. We worried about you every day. Even when the situation stabilized, there were questions: What would you do? What will happen next? And for Americans like myself, this is the only war I can remember (and I'm an old guy) that was unambiguous - freedom vs. tyranny. No grey area. Those are very valid points. I'd like to point out that even in Europe and North America a lot of people fall into the apathetic category, meaning they don't care about the government as long as they're not affected by its actions. The US came very close to a coup by a man who is as dangerous as Putin. Over a few decades, any country could become "Russia" with the right propaganda and power hungry "leader". All of the Russian KZbinrs I watch have left Russia, except one. Her name is Svetlana and she stated that she'll continue making videos about Russia that are mostly not political, except the occasional walk in the mall showing the impact of sanctions (there aren't many in her world). I'm not sure, but think she might have powerful supporters that aren't disclosed. You are genuine, that's why I like you and will keep following you.

@@Olga_Reznikova Well, let's see. There is Israe, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, and various places in Africa. There is the border dispute between China and India. Most of these have not risen to the level of what is going on in Ukraine, except Syria and Yemen, which are very comparable, have been going on for many years and do not look to be letting up any time soon. Don't get me wrong, I do not wish to minimize the situation in Ukraine, I am a supporter of Ukraine. The thing is that we are entering into a period of history where the world will split into several regional blocks. The time from the last world war to now is just over 70 years. The security order created by the US after the war was designed to counter the Soviet Union. That is all. The USSR broke apart 30 years ago. The cost to the US is unnecessary for its own security. The thing to remember is that the current situation in Ukraine is the norm in European history, not the exception. So, that is the genesis of my comment.

Good example of Kremlin soft power is "Eli from Russia channel".. She wants to show "a normal daily life in Russia", travels a lot around the country but then there is "surprisingly" videos about sanctions and how they effect etc(without noticing at all that sanctions do not work immidiately, maybe it took a year or few years). And also she has some videos where she interviews some "American experts" about Ukraine etc (again without noticing that those "experts" are some redneck/far right guys who are against west). This Eli also somehow can film in every shopping mall, train stations or metro station without problems. If someone even once visited Russia and ever tried to doing that, it is only seconds when some security guy comes to you and say "foto i sjomku zapresheno(No photo or videos here)". Also there is channell called Niki Proshin a guy who's videos may look very impartial but he has some videos with this Eli from Russia which is why Niki's all credibility goes... Niki Proshin is just fishing western viewers, and from his channel people can find these Eli-videos where they are laughing together how people in comments call them Kremlin agents (which they are btw)... Kinda childish way

She is an extremely talented KZbinr, who definitely fits the description of what Olga was talking about. It was disappointing that Eli never came out strongly against the war, and continued to refer to it as "politics". However, there are still several other anti-war KZbinrs who left Russia and are definitely against the Putin regime. I do consider them good Russians, but they are small fish who Putin does not control, and also does not lose any sleep over.

I have watched some russian bloggers in the past, to try and understand the mindset of russians in general. Alot of these bloggers now are using the war in Ukraine as an opportunity to profit. Many channels have the same problems as yours, these coordinated bot attacks have a large effect on how KZbin recommends or even notifies subscribers. Some channels have had their channel profiles raised again, by making appeal to the audience to manually search for your channel, several times and make sure to like the video. These actions can have a positive effect on how the algorithm recommends your videos in the future.

Olga, The view you expressed, about who GOOD "Russian people" really are, are exactly who I and most citizens of Western countries call good Russian people also. Yes, it's sad that many Russian citizens, while opposing the war, are not allowed to voice that opinion or to protest. But by being passive and not changing the situation of the war does not provide much difference from those who actively support it, and actively engage in it. I wish things were different, but for now, that's just what the situation is. Brave Ukrainian soldiers, men, women, and children, are dying to actively fight against the cruel and unjust death and destruction caused by putin-ork. Keep fighting the good fight. And like Ukraine when it finally gets it's much deserved Victory and freedom returned, you will also get your much deserved subscribers returned. Much love and support from the United States. I do agree with his point about collective responsibility... albeit with some reservations... So to paraphrase Mann... "The collective people of a nation must be collectively responsible for what they and their nation collectively do." I'm not just talking about individuals... we have courts for them. My wife is Russian by citizenship (ethnically very mixed but mostly Eastern European (both Russian and Ukranian) and Urallic and she also was born in the Udmurt republic and of course was never taught the Udmurt language as everything was and still is Russified and it is a slowly dying language unfortunely imo) but has lived in Scandinavia since 1996 and the last time we went to Russia was 2007. We saw a lot of stuff how it began changing for the worse but of course back then we didn't really expect like invading Ukraine would happen.....UNTIL 2008 when Russia invaded Georgia, we understood that anything can happen. Then we learned more about Transnistria also and yeah...here we are. Of course my wife, since she has never lived in Russia during Putins regime, aren't that capable of doing anything real about it except from some postings on her Facebook. But one thing is a fact - she hates Putin and Z patriots with passion. There are some people she dosen't really hate because they go back for a long long time, but she is frustrated with and wanna shake up, and scream open your eyes god dammit and see what the hell is going on. Not only hate Putin with Passion, but cried when she learned that Russia invaded Ukraine, and we try to donate for charity to Ukraine both militarily and civilian when we can effort to do so and how much we can donate varies. The point is she is a thinking person. There are people in the west, who are Russians, has lived here since the 1990's and still are voting for Putin, which is just unbelivable and it makes you think, what the hell are they really doing here, especially a huge part of Putins propeganda are anti-west, and if they as people hates us so much, then why not move back and live in their imaginary paradise and see what it's like? I am not saying Russians should be banned from Europe, but if living in Europe and giving in for Putins propeganda and vote for him, knowing that hating Europe is a huge part of it, and extreme nationalism, then I really think they should live in that "paradise" if they really think it is so much better. At least my wife has a thinking brain and the heart on it's right place. And I totally agree with most of your message in this video. Keep up the good work.

You are right. I was surprised that there is basically no change in the Russian society and the behave in Politics and Military. There is actually no change in treating people, others and there owns. I'm old enough to listen and remember the stories of my mother in law fleeing from the Russians in WWII, stories about shooting and raping of civilians, young female children and elder women. My grandfather, my father and my uncle told me about Russian soldiers, running into the German gun fire and if they turned around the were shot by there own comrades. I don't want to play down the German fault of starting the war against the Soviet Union but it is so devastating, that the Russian society seems to stalled in this former times. It's still part of the Russians way to conquer and to delete a complete society, humiliate people were ever they can. The war against the Ucraine today shows, how primitive Russians tactics are. Killing and destroy as much as you can and in case of success start the Genozid. What they are doing to your country is a crime and I hope, that the Russians have to pay the price for it sometimes in the future.

People who are influenced by influencers are easily impressionable. It's trivial. No cultured and intellectually gifted person needs to be influenced by youtubers, tiktokers and instagrammers because they form their critical spirit in other ways and by other sources. Moreover, I understand very well the anger and hatred Ukrainians may feel towards Russia and Russian citizens who don't actively rebel against Putin's regime, but I would like to point out it's very easy to judge and condemn them in this way. Such complex social and geopolitical issues are not resolved by a video shot at home or by the instinctive comments of users. It's too pretentious to establish who is good and who is bad in this way. We are all influenced by political propaganda, no one excluded. Even those who are not influenced by influencers are somehow influenced by other forms of propaganda. No one is excluded, not even culturally and intellectually gifted people who don't listen to influencers. I'm neither bad nor good.
