I was born in Russia and immigrated to the United States when I was 6 years old. My parents wanted to give me and my sister a better life, and despite taking the incredible risk of moving to America without speaking a word of English, they were successful. I'll forever be grateful to my parents for what they did for us. That being said, as someone who still has family in both Russia and Ukraine, we have been struggling through a variety of emotions as so many Ukrainians and Russians suffer because of this war.

God job! I am a school teacher in a town in the mountains of Norway and we just recieved 70 Ukrainian children sent away by their parents like you did. It is the right choice, both to send them to safety and to stay and help the people. Hopefully when all this ends, everyone will be reunited again, or at least most. We cannot deny many families will likely permanently miss several members from all this going on. Just awful, really wish there was some way we could help you without causing a nuclear war, but at least we can keep sending money and weapons to be wielded by brave Ukrainians in defence of their land. Still, your job is just as important as that of the soldiers, peoples lives’ depend on you now even more than ever before. Stay safe, doctor.

Unfortunately, alliances can turn out to exacerbate the breadth of a conflict. Both WW1 and, to a lesser extent, WW2 were made worse due to the complex alliance structure that was set up. I'm from Russia. I grew up in the 90s in a small town. There was no work there after the two city-forming factories were privatized and sold for next to nothing. And my parents really made a lot of efforts to ensure that I grew up in normal conditions. My family and I have never supported Putin. We never believed him. I went to protests several times before the war. When the war with Ukraine began, it was like a blow to the gut. Some of my friends turned gray in a few days. Some left, hiding from mobilization. My social network page was blocked by the Prosecutor General's Office in June 2022 for my anti-war position. Sometimes I have a strong desire to protest again, but I understand that most likely I will end up in prison after this. Thank you for not showing hatred towards Russians.

@@alpenspass Thank you. In fact, right now I am in the process of obtaining a US fiancee visa. My fiance and I met online a month before the start of the war. Last June we met in Greece. We decided to meet there because it would be dangerous for my fiance to come to Russia because he served in Iraq. Now our documents have been sent to Warsaw (so far we have not received a response from there). I will need to go through a visa interview there. And the thing is that now Poland does not issue visas to Russians. That is, I will have to get a tourist Schengen of another country to get to Poland for this interview. And my trip to Poland will look something like this: My city - Moscow- Turkey- Greece-Poland. It's funny because my region borders Poland, and I used to be able to get to Poland by bus. I have written to the Consul of Poland asking him to inform me how I can get to Poland legally to pass my interview without violating any laws and regulations. But he simply answered that it was impossible to obtain a Polish visa. I have so many fears... I am afraid that I will not be allowed into the Schengen area, I am afraid that the fiance's petition will expire, I am afraid of... A lot of things. I'm not going to return to Russia in the coming years. If I return, I may be recognized as a foreign agent for my "connections with a foreign citizen from an unfriendly country." But most of all, I'm afraid that something might go wrong and I'll never see my fiance again. 😞

Hey Dr.Mike, thanks a lot of this video. As a half-Russian and part-Ukrainian myself, I’ve been feeling stuck recently, and have seen both sides of this war. How the Ukrainian citizens are suffering and how the Russian citizens are suffering. It’s so refreshing to see someone who is actually with this background to have a serious talk about this issue. It seems that we can not fix this issue and can only hope for the best. However, I believe, like many others, we CAN stand up against this issue. Donating to the various funds, protesting, raising awareness, educating ourselves, there are so many ways. Everyday people CAN solve this, but only if we all unite and take action. We got this.

@Sm1LeZ Did you fully understand the video? There are many parts where Dr. Mike talks about the people living in Russia. No, my comment is not a joke, nor this video. There ARE Russian CITIZENS suffering. When I say Russians suffering, I am not talking about the Russian government. Russian citizens are very much different from the Russian government and many of those citizens oppose the war. The Russian citizens who are very brave and protest against this war face harassment by the police and federal government, just because of they choose to use their freedom of speech. Also, there are parts of the video where it shows the conditions that Russian civilians have to live under this terrible government. For example, at the start when Dr. Mike shows his own childhood and background with Russia under the influence of their corrupt government. Please don’t disregard Russians who are in terrible situations and are suffering, just because they are Russian. Russian civilians are different from the Russian government. If you still don’t understand, I can go more in depth.

Or creating proxy-states on eastern Ukraine? They've tolerated this government for 30 years. Their suffering is their choice. They can't oppose 10000 people vs 100 police. They are slaves and should live accordingly. Russian civilians are not different from the Russian government. They are the government. Like in any country

I'm a Bulgarian. Living so close to Ukraine is very tense. We're doing everything to help people. We've been having a lot of Ukrainians come here as refugees and I've met people going to the same grocery store as me. You can definitely feel the worry and stress in them. Innocent people are being traumatized at the very least. Kids especially. We have failed as human beings. The stress and shock put onto the children will be irreversible. My heart goes out to all kids that have to endure this and I can't believe how strong and brave they are right now. I don't agree at all with war regardless of what the reason is. I've done my research. The reasons are many but my comment will be either too long or deleted. There are many Russians losing lives too because they've been ordered to fight. I highly doubt they even want to fight and kill people. There are families. Russian people marrying Ukrainians. I have Ukrainian friends and Russian friends. A Russian doctor got my father the ability to walk after being bed bound for years and didn't ask for anything in return. There are many thoughts in my head rn. But the biggest one is that innocent people should not fight because of the governments being in a conflict. It's 2022 and people should have learnt to diplomatically solve their problems.

It's heartbreaking to see not only the Ukranians suffering, the fallen soldiers trying to defend their country, but also to most of the Russian citizens where they were probably forced into the war. Thank you for your kindness & compassion towards Ukrainian refugees, & the conscripts being forced into this war by a mad man. I agree with you 100%, in 2022 war should not exist. Thanks for your support, Dr. Mike. Before the war, I was an ordinary medical student from Mariupol, a peaceful and bright Ukrainian city of about 500,000 people. During the conflict, more than 90% of the city was destroyed, thousands died. Those who survived lived in dungeons with a lack of food and water, without communication, light and heating in a terrible cold, when bombs, mines and rockets exploded nearby. Among them are many women (including pregnant women), children and the elderly. We escaped from this hell, where (many) dead bodies are just lying on the streets, and people are burying their loved ones in the yards. I hope other people can leave too. We don't know where our home is now or even who we are now, but we hope that someday we will be able to study, work and live in a better world without war. NO WAR!

It was in 1993,hard times in Russia. It was really scary because state as a whole was not functioning right (like it was increase of criminal activity and you couldn't do business with safety for it and etc.). The market economy was just gaining momentum (its laws were introduced very abruptly) and many people simply could not get the money they deserved for their profession, and instead of their work, they began to trade in some kind of goods.

Dr. Mike, tonight you saved a life. I was at a Ukraine fundraiser and a gentleman collapsed. Using the information I learned from you and your channel, I was able to do 17 rounds of chest compressions in tandem with another attendee. When the ambulance arrived they were able to get his heart restarted. I don’t know if he’s going to make it. But I know that at least when he was put in the ambulance he had a very good chance. I just want to take this moment to say thank you. Without your constant pushing of chest compressions chest compressions chest compressions this man may not have survived Edit 16hr a later: He is still alive and doing well in the icu! Edit2 30hrs later: he regained consciousness!!! Still in the icu but awake and aware. Edit3 3 weeks later: He underwent successful surgery. He is now home and recovering well! Full recovery expected

@@dennisbohman3848 in spirit, I agree with you. In practice, there is absolutely a wrong way to do chest compressions, and its by doing them without enough force and pressure; you should not be afraid to crack a rib, thats how hard they need to be. Otherwise, weak compressions are likely to do almost nothing. Again, in spirit, the *idea* of at least trying is good, so I would never blame someone if they did them incorrectly and didn't turn out well. We should learn to do them correctly.

Just seeing this now. Fabulous. I'm half Russian and half Polish and my family escaped as well. Thank you to our families for getting us out. And the war goes on a year later. It's not good. I have been to Russia as a teen. Very poor people in general surrounded by the riches in the museums, etc...

What about in middle east. 2 million civilians are killed and US has not been sanction yet. Israel has killed 87495 civilians and occupied palestine for 80 years. Broke the 2 states agreement law. How come US is putting sanctions when they lied of wmd possesion in Irqa and already proven so 1.2 Fucki'n million died. When will US get sanction then?

As a Ukrainian, I want to thank you for stating your position and supporting Ukraine in this war!🇺🇦 It physically hurts when public people stay silent and turn away from the genocide of Ukrainian people.

i think public people stay silent mainly to avoid that the conflict becomes WWIII. yet at the same time, the invasion of Ukraine feels seems pretty similar to the 1939 invasion of Poland :(

When I saw the man crying at 1:00 mark, I felt my heart clutch and break for him. The war in Ukraine is heart breaking. It needs to end but not by Ukraine giving up its territories.

Russia is bombing children’s hospitals and maternity clinics. They’re bombing schools. When I picture evil in my head, I picture Putin. I picture his dictatorship. This is a tragic situation and a horrible war that we can only hope ends soon. At the very least, the Russian army has proven themselves to be incompetent. If they were good at what they do, this would’ve been so much worse. All in all, it’s still horrible, and my heart goes out to those suffering in Ukraine; those losing their families and those losing their lives.

@@immortalsun Has the Russian army proved itself incapacitated? You don't know what's going on at the front, because you're out there somewhere, far away. Do you know the motives of the Russian army? Protection of civilians of Donbass, who were bombed by Ukrainians for eight long years. You are fools who believe your propaganda, believing in the sanctity of your actions and the actions of the Ukrainian people. Do you know what Ukrainian soldiers do with Russian prisoners? Recently, one of our people was crucified on the cross and burned, others are covered with the backs of civilians. And are you ready to protect these bastards? You will say, "well, Russia is bombing civilian objects," but is it okay that soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are sitting in these objects? No? Have you ever thought about it? A Russian soldier will never kill a child or an ordinary person, an old man, a woman and others. And you are just hypocrites who say something on the Internet without knowing the truth. Russophobes.

I respect that you talked about this war, that you raised this topic. I will be honest, as a Ukrainian, I don't believe these bridges can mended after stories & photos from Bucha that I've seen, after hearing of all war crimes. This is a true genocide of ukrainians, completely unprovoked, and I'm scared & heartbroken. My family is in the city that is bombed, my mother works in the hospital, father joined the army, grandma volunteers. And I'm praying for what I am that they never live through what people in Kyiv region did. Please remember Bucha, remember Irpin, Mariupol, please don't let European politicians glaze over the real genocide that is happening. 💔
