Wow, I have been following you for 2 years and I have seen this young lady dance numerous times and I must admit, she has improved her dancing skills dramatically. I am impressed by the strength that she has developed when dancing. Her movements are precise and controlled. You have done an amazing job with this young lady and she is dancing so beautifully and gracefully, even with her weaker side. She will go far.

I’m an adult ballet student and my strong side is my right side and I always say “good luck left” whenever we do it in the left (especially châinés cos I find it challenging to spot). But I do better promenade to the left. It’s the weirdest. 😝

I trained with a renowned Russian instructor, Vladimir Dokoudovsky, in New York who grew up in Pais: he trained with Bronislava Nijinska. He taught a very clean, classical style. No cheating, no mannerisms - the best of the English and Russian application for purity. Heels always down after every single pique turn or every single changement. Every tendu, every plié, every step was broken down into its elements. We learned, and did every single step, including 32 fouettes on BOTH sides for every single class. No side was ever eliminated nor were repetitions cut in half for the left whether pique turns, chenees, grand jetés, grand allegro. I went from his school to the Royal Ballet at 16 and was immediately promoted from first year (seniors) to second year). I remember my teacher at the Royal (Julia Farron) felt my preparation was so clean - whether the English style or Russian - I was videographed often in order for her to show the class how to break down grand jeté en tournant, for example. I do remember clearly always doing pirouettes with the Russian preparation. The grand jetés - never with a flick. Even though I was a natural turner I was not allowed to have a better side. For fouettes and most turns, the left was always my natural side but I did an equal amount of turning on both sides. Finally, we didn’t do variations from ballets if any step was a step that was too advanced for where we were in our daily classes. (No private coaching except to prepare a piece for auditions; and we had a year end low key “recital” at some point in the spring.) However what I loved was the lack of rigidity: we could do six pirouettes or two pirouettes; we could lift our leg to whatever extension as long as the position was perfect: no a la seconde leading with the quads; no sitting into the standing hip, etc. All this was back in the late 1960s and early 1970s when the approach to ballet training was quite different in so many ways. Most dancers smoked; there was no cross training or Pilates or extensive personal stretching. Margot Fonteyn was our ideal, basically.

Lilly Cameron maybe try exercises with a theraband? I don’t really know how to explain but put your foot in it and pull it to the side so you’re sickling and then do some pulses to the other sides... I hope it’s clear 💖

Hey claudia! I love yooooouuuu! So. I have a new ballet teacher. She has new rules. For my pointe test, I have to be able to hold a passe on releve for a minute on each side without a barre. I've been take pre pointe for 3 years I'm currently at like 10 seconds, and am not seeing any improvement! I really want tobbe an pointe by my sophomore year, and I'm an 8th grader this year. Could you give me some tips for that passe, or maybe do a video on excersises to improve your holds? Desperately need help! Thank youuuuuuuu💙💙💙
