Love this arrangement! "Any Major Dude" was a song (like "Dirty Work" and "Rikki Don't Lose That Number") that even non-Steely Dan fans loved the first time they heard it. When they performed it at the U. of Toledo on Sunday April 21, 1974, Donald Fagen graciously let 19 year-old percussionist Royce Jones sing the lead. My wife and I were lucky to hear it, because on that tour they performed either "Brooklyn" or "Any Major Dude" -- but never both songs.

Thank You for the nice comment, Andy. Much Appreciated by the band! It's a rather simple, but slightly jazzier rendition and we add it to the show from time to time. Great story about the 1974 concert. I really loved the original Steely Dan band. It was a great 5-piece unit. I have never seen SD play "Major Dude", or "Brooklyn", but the recordings are great.

Hey Thank You So Much! I just listened to you guys and you sound great! Nice to meet a fellow Dan band musician! This is Mike, the lead vocalist and this arrangement of "Any Major Dude" is really a lot different from the original. I wanted to do a sort of jazzy and a bit spacier version featuring the sax and some open chords, so whatever Scott, our bass player is doing is what we probably wanted to hear although these guys can improvise whenever they feel like. I wanted to arrange the tune a bit like Gino Vannelli does with some of his songs...so I slowed the tempo and we probably never play it the same way twice. Again, nice meeting you and Thank You for the comment.
