It has been my experience that scenario based questions are the best in finding applicants' true strengths and weaknesses. It is easy to say, "Yes, I can do that!" but once you say, "How?" A lot of the time they buckle and turn into a mute. Challenge them and really grease those gears in their brain to start turning.

4:10 "Let the facts of your abilities speak for themselves rather than beating your chest" This is great advice even if your resume isnt great. Honesty is key interviews. Dont sell yourself into a job you cant do because if you do your going to feel taken advantage of even though it was you who applied for the job and you who said you could do it. Honesty in an interview is key. Work your way up. And by that I mean its okay to take a job your overqualified for. Its not a good a idea to take a job your underqualified for (even though being underqualified can be a great learning experience but it will rarely look good on a resume). That doesnt mean that there are not situations where being underqualified is okay. Its all a matter of judgement and doing whats best for YOU (financially) is usually what is best.

I would suggest that it's important to understand, most of us stumble through a lot of our adult lives, just finding jobs to change out again... Experimentation that way isn't a bad deal, either. Worst case, you find a job that you thought was cool at first, and decided in a few days, weeks, whatever, that it's not "your thing"... You still get money out of it, and probably learn a few things in the deal... Things learned are NEVER taken from you. That's value... Here's the part about growing up that you don't get told. There's no perfect fix. Even that dream job comes with a few bits you don't like... or even HATE absolutely. Regardless of what they try to "sell" you on KZbin, and other platforms, the HUGE GREAT MAJORITY of the population ends up going through a dozen or so "plain old jobs" before finding that career they stick to the rest of their lives... INCLUDING those YT'ers, creators, performers, etc... Embrace the adventure. That's what life really is... Finding a good fit, starts (as often as not) with figuring out what exactly constitutes a bad fit... or unfit... unacceptable... and a waste. You don't beat yourself up over getting the first attempt "wrong". AND even if you don't think you learned anything on a job (besides it being a bad fit for you) you had the chance to put real time and practice into a skill you were (and consequently are still) developing. It's okay to hate the job, the place you work at, the people you work for... and still show up daily, put in the time, and take their money. What's not okay is not even trying... It sounds cool right now, doing nothing... BUT one day, when you wake up around 50 or so, you'll look at the time wasted as in "I could have put twenty bucks a month in a bank account... doing literally ANYTHING... and I'd be closer to retirement than now." AND that's the one way you DO NOT want to look back on your life. SO... take the f***ing job pushing a broom for minimum... Keep showing up. The right answer (until you have a better one) is "yes sir."... AND never stop looking around. There's something better out there only until there isn't... AND that's how you just... "know"... you're in the right place. ;o)

gnarth d'arkanen Sorry to bother you, but I dunno who to talk to. I don't know if I should join the air force or go to college and get a degree. I just took the accuplacer and I had a really low motivation score along with other low scores. And so I am now thinking that I should either get a job and that will help me understand what the real world is really like and why I should get a degree. Or if I should go to the air force and get whipped in to shape because I'll admit my attitude is piss poor a lot of the time, and it will also allow me more time to weigh out options once my term ends.

How can you become part of a team if you may have a slightly jaded past, but are working tirelessly to attempt to better your current situation despite adversity? Is there theoretically a way to get a "record" reviewed to see if you have the ability to "right your passed wrongs"?

Letting your experience speak for itself, as Jocko says, is more powerful than presenting the version of yourself that you think a manager might want to see. Authenticity is essential in interviewing successfully, which is why we created a short video about how to remain authentic during a job interview. If you want to check it out, here is the link kzbin.info/www/bejne/n6GVkq2ZZ9lshJY.

Yanky mentality. The job is in Walmart and you're clambering over each other for minimum wage and no travel time, and encouraging the interviewer to use the methods from Guantanamo bay.
