This IS true and universally applicable! If every manager, boss, and parent listened to this and actually applied it, EVERY single job and family environment would change!

Simple, clear, and concise commands. Do what works and don’t be afraid to recalibrate when it’s not working. Make sure to Prioritize and Execute. Take Extreme ownership and Cover and Move. Decentralized Command. Tweaking these principles is ok but keep your base. Check.

Great video. Communication is everything. There are too many leaders, mentors, guru's, and managers that do not know how to communicate.

I totally agree...it's crazy to think that the same thing over and over will give u a different result...I know some ppl that think their way of thinking is absolute and they r 100%right all the time...their attitude holds them back...and everyone and anything around them all fail...but it's them failing...not the world failing them...always need to be an aware leader...flexible..smart...positive.. and willing💪🐷

I have a son that is extremely intelligent but also highly unmotivated, and lazy. He reminds me of me when I was his age. The only thing that got me to buckle down and get my life in order was having him. I didn't care that much about myself or what happened to me but I cared a hell of a lot about what happened to him and what kind of future I could provide for him. I am scared to death that he is going to make the same decisions that I did and wind up screwing up his life and going nowhere fast. It was damn hard for me to turn things around while also working my ass off to provide for a family. I've tried everything that I can think of, from punishments to rewards, but me and my wife are out of ideas and still haven't found anything that can get him to stop lying about his school work, study for tests, and do his best. Have you got any ideas for me?

He needs to live by himself and support himself. I was similar and only tough love helped me eventually turn my life around. When I was told I had 2 months to sort my shit out and leave , I knew the jig was up :)

Impress in him two contrast environments. Let him choose on his own. Sometimes we don't know what is available to us until we experience it for ourselves. People who where raised in tough situations vs people who where raised in abundance they only know what they know so it's more likely that they will stay on that path. Of course there are outliers in every situation but they are uncommon; You cannot change a person, they hold it in their person to make that decision. Show him the best you can. Believe it or not I believe that there are some people who already had their story written for them since before they were born. That is why some humans since a very young age have a great sense of direction, they know what to do, when to do it regardless of the circumstances.

Don’t pressure him. That’s the worst thing to do to highly intelligent people. You got to figure out something he is interested in to focus his energy. Maybe a guitar?

It sure is nice to have such clear measures of effectivess in jiujitsu. So much of life is more like a messy combat situation where effectiveness could subtly shift from mission / objective achievement to related factors like enemy deathcount or level of soldier obedience. Sometimes life makes me wonder what the real objectives are like do you really want soldiers to l earn their objective or do you want them to be mindlessly obedient even if they don't get it or are you really after a bloody competitor deathcount? Or maybe it really all only boils down to a shallow selloutfest in the name of garnering likes.

As a Major I have my leadership style that has to do with my personality (ENJF), but superiors play a role in setting a tone or climate and so do subordinates. I’ve noticed that usually subordinates are easy to lead, want to be led by someone who cares about what they’re doing..it’s human nature to want to help, to care when someone else is struggling…why do we root for protagonist on screen in the movie theater? So I’ve worked with less motivated less trained soldiers that still performed admirably when given a purpose and ownership.

I hate being misunderstood. The English language has many different meanings for the same word. English is my only language, too. I dare to ask this. But, was jocko using clear and concise commands with saying the word yell? Yell could be considered brow beating someone or it could be considered talking loud enough so someone can hear you. Just asking.

Honestly, how can you misinterpret the word yell in this context? That just sounds like you're looking for reasons to get confused.
