Fun fact, the whole “she used to fart in her sleep” speech from Robin Williams was totally ad libbed. Matt Damon didn’t know where he was going with it, his laughter was genuine and spontaneous from the monologue.

Robin Williams was a gift from god to all of us. The absolute king of improv comedy, and just as talented at drama. He won the Oscar for his part in this film, and was very well deserved. His acceptance speech for his award is also held in very high regard. This isn't his only dramatic role, but I do believe it is his best. He is, and always will be loved, and missed by all of us in the generations who grew up with him, and those who knew him before he left us. God bless him, and I hope he rests in peace. (just a suggestion, since you are kinda in the "classics" mode..try the Disney film "Aladdin" the animated one with Robin as the genie..he was allowed to improv most of his lines...he shows his genius there as well. You won't be disappointed, especially if you like animated/Disney stuff). Brian

Robin Williams is the reason I became an actor. I was honored to meet him in 2011. He was so warm, and humble, and giving. When he passed, I stayed in bed and cried uncontrollably for three days. This film got me into therapy, and I have several breakthroughs directly related to it. Then, I did the park monologue in an audition, and it certainly pushed my career along a few steps. I actually went to the park in Boston a couple of years ago and sat on the bench for a while. Very strange feeling. This film is so important to me, as it is a great many other people. I would love to see your reaction to What Dreams May Come, a sadly overlooked yet devastatingly beautiful and poignant Robin film.

@sathvamp1 Жыл бұрын
Oh gosh I know what that's like... well maybe not so much with real life events BUT it reminds me of one movie experience I had once: Typically I actually really enjoy tearjerker movies, but with ME, there's a catch: I am completely unable to cry IF there is ANY sort of anxiety or anger present in me- I need to be sad but ALSO 100% "calm" for any tears to happen. SO... during my first watch of [the Korean version of] "Miracle in Cell No. 7", since there was a gross injustice in that film along with obviously sad events, I was SO on the verge of crying BUT my "anger" kept pulling the sadness back in, so it couldn't come out. It wasn't until the next day when I was writing a comment about how it would have been better if the movie had included some sort of punishment for the instance of injustice... when tears finally came. But yeah... never had I been so "emotionally constipated" as during and a day after THAT movie!

Good Will Hunting is a classic. But Robin Williams has been in many wonderful dramas. Dead Poet's Society, Good Morning Vietnam, The Fisher King and the World According to Garp are a few of my favourites. Robin had such range and skill, as many comedic actors do, and he could play the quiet, introspective characters as much as bombastic, over the top characters. His death was a shock to the world, but with his diagnosis, he knew he was going to lose himself, and I think he wanted to spare himself and his family the tragedy to come. In any case, his work lives on, and this was one of his best roles. I would recommend Dead Poet's Society though, as it has a similar mentoring feel to the role as this one.
@darryl1373 Жыл бұрын
Robin Williams was one of those actors who could play ANY type of character brilliantly. Of course his comedy is legendary, but he could also do great dramatic roles as well. I also love that this film started as a school project that Matt Damon had to complete. It started as a 40 page script, and was then flushed out when he brought Ben Affleck on board. I really love this movie because it was shot in Toronto, Canada (where I live). I like watching and thinking "I know where that is!" when I see a familiar location! 😅 Great pick, and great video!

What do Robin Williams and Tom Hanks have in common? They started their fame as comedy actors on TV sitcoms, and worked their way up to being dramatic actors in movies and both ended up winning ACADEMY AWARDS for best acting! ...and they deserved it cause they probably learned, through showing comedy emotions, how to master doing dramatic emotions as well...that's just my own opinion. Please can I suggest you try reacting to the movie THE OUTSIDERS ? There are no academy award performances in it, but the emotions you will feel are similar to this reaction. This movie was really a great movie about mental health before mental health was really taken seriously. Obviously it's just one situation, but at the time there was really not many shows or movies that really looked into the psyche of a person, and if there were movies like that, it always came out to "this person is crazy so they are a murderer". Good Will Hunting did a good job of showing that a lot of people, if not most people, need psychological help. It's normal to feel like you aren't normal and that's what I think most people don't understand.
Hey not sure if you’ll see this but if you like the theme of “traditionally funny actors playing serious roles” I highly recommend “Stranger than Fiction” for Will Ferrell and my all time favorite “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” for Jim Carrey

I was lucky enough to be introduced to Robin Williams via the TV series Happy Days which launched the spinoff Mork & Mindy, and then what followed was a series of stand-up concerts and movies that he inhabited with his love, charm and humor. Moscow on the Hudson, The Fisher King, Dead Poets Society, this title, Good Morning Vietnam and all the rest. I would kind of describe him as a Mr. Rogers type who would swear and make sex and drug jokes, yet achieved the same result: that it's important to be kind and loving and empathetic.
