Also, PLEASE do a video on your experience working in that houseplant expert position and even the garden center or whatever!!!! I’m in Oregon but I’ve been wanting to a job in the field (trying to get sterile processing certified for a hospital job - otherwise plants are my only interest for a job and if I fell into a career I’d probably go that route bc more fulfilling), unfortunately I didn’t end up getting a nursery/garden job this summer like I wanted because health/mental health etc. But I would love to hear about your journey!!!!!!

This summer I have expanded my collection and knowledge and am so close to selling plants on FB marketplace except now we’re approaching fall/winter so I feel like I should wait until spring. I got a large spider plant in July with a tonnnn of babies so I have 6 4inch pots of babies going strong, 70 more cuttings waiting for roots; and then I have 11 Mimosa Silk bonsai seeds germinating strongly, 8 pothos to sell, I’ve doubled my ficus and aglaonema, and I have 6 monsteras. I really fell into chopping & propping this year and now I need to sell things to get more ..space😅😅

Hey! I'm currently a student at the New York Botanical Garden in their SoPH program. I started out in environmental restoration, spent 5 years in small-scale organic agriculture, and then worked for retail and wholesale nurseries for the past three years, as the annual and tropical purchaser. I got super into houseplants and then outdoor horticulture during the pandemic as I was trying to figure out what to do with my life after farming. If you want to take a trip up to the Bronx to see the botanical garden and get your eyes on some beautiful speimens (topicals, woodies, outdoor herbaceous annuals/perennials) let me know! I'd be happy to get you in and NYBG has so many amazing classes, certificate programs, and vocational programs (mine is a 2 year program certified by the department of education). I am also originally from the Philadelphia area and a new NY transplant as well!
