The thought of a monster in the toilet had never occurred to my child-brain. And then a cassette cover informed it that that was a possibility and I was afraid of toilets for a few years. I'd throw a piece of toilet paper or two in as a peace offering before using the toilet. A little known scifi thriller that i thought was great was Last Lives (1997). Starring: C. Thomas Howell, Billy Wirth, Judge Reinhold and Jennifer Rubin. You should check it out. Definitely underrated!

I never saw this one, but it looks decent. One of those movies like Cutting Class where it's fairly small, and even the story has relatively small stakes. but there's just something enjoyable about it. A standard high school setting with some murder going on, and then stick whatever trappings on it to make a theme.
