I had been on a fishing trip and was driving back along the shores of Loch ness about 3 am, 4 people in the car I decided to pull over for a drink of water which was in the boot, I stopped as I got out of the car I left the door openened which left the interior light on, as I looked and headed to the rear of the car I noticed a huge dark grey figure standing just outside the treeline at about 30 to 40 yards, the first thing that flashed through my mind was big foot, I went to the back of the car lifted the boot to rummage for my water and said here lads something is watching us, I found the water turned to look again and it was still standing there looking at me, but I didn't feel spooked I walked back to the drivers door looked again and it was gone, one of the lads said he saw something move back in to the trees but couldn't make it out, he was still in the car with the rest of them, my brother phoned the next day and said Google the grey man of Ben Macdui, I had never heard of this before strange.

Sandy Tewnion, the man with the revolver, was my biology teacher at school. He was a good climber, along with his brother, members of the SMC. His brother died in a climbing accident. Sandy walked with a limp due to shrapnel in his leg. The service revolver was part of his wartime duties. He seemed quite a gruff character but had a sense of humour. I didn't know anything about this during my school days. It was only later I read accounts of the Grey Man.

The Ben McDhui Big Grey Man is not a ghost. It is a Brocken Spectre. This happens on mountains, when a normal shadow is magnified and appears in mid air because your shadow is imposed onto any type of cloud, including mist and fog. Because it is magnified by the water droplets, your shadow appears huge and grey.
@Moldevite4 күн бұрын
@@bonariablackie4047 yes I can understand that. But my experience didn't involve a shadow and I knew nothing of the greyman of Ben McDhui until years later and coming from about as far south of the UK as you can get I was at that time ignorant of that legend. We were chassed of by loud heavy foot steps,. You could hear them as clear as day. On looking at where they came from we could see nothing but! You knew something unseen was there. I do not exaggerate & I can only say of my experience, I have no idea what it was, but it certainly was a little freaky... would I go up again? yes I would but I might justvtake the time to speak out to McDuhi and ask permission 🤔
@bonariablackie40474 күн бұрын
@@Moldevite I would imagine the heavy footsteps might be somebody else walking up the mountain. Sound is magnified, so if the person was behind you but further down from you, it could well sound like the footsteps are directly behind you. They probably heard the same thing because of your footsteps.

Thea Big Grey Man is not a Brocken Spectre. It is a spirit that haunts Ben Macdui and the area by the Shelter Stone. Its footsteps can actually be heard following climbers on the mountain paths and around the Shelter Stone. The Brocken Spectres are a trick of the light and don't make sound.

@Moldevite4 күн бұрын
@@Iamaguienapigwe saw nothing of a physical nature. But you could hear the footsteps and feel a presence. On looking back to where the footsteps could be heard it's hard to explain but you just knew something was there. As far as we knew we were the only ones up there. We had passed 2 members of the Braemor Mountain rescue on there way back down from the top on cycles they were lent to test. It was late afternoon clear sky. This is the reason that it's the locals do these types of walks in the winter and it's a tourist trip in the summer for hikers who are spending a few nights in the local area as it requires an early start to get down the mountain before nightfall as no local will try to be on the mountain after dark .

Over the last 10 years I've ridden my motorbike a quarter of a million miles across 41 different countries some of them up to eight times and Wild camped in every single place completely alone in a tiny one man tent including practically every inch of the UK and Scotland. I have wild camped all over Transylvania and Romania at the base of Bran Castle which was the inspiration for the Dracula stories. I've slept in huge dark forests in Eastern Europe and all over Scandanavia and up in every one of Europes huge mountain ranges, and then two weeks alone while crossing the Sahara desert. Twice! I've slept in cemeteries in almost every country Ive been in because they are free campsites. Never once sensed an 'eerie presence' anywhere or had any reason to be afraid of anything. Some people are just afraid of their own shadow and heartbeat.

There are multiple glens connecting Aviemore south to Braemar and Blair Atholl. Glen Tilt, Derry, Feshie etc. the Laurie Ghru is a classic. I prefer accessing from Braemar side (Linn of Dee car park) much less. Think 8 of the ten highest hills in the UK are in the cairngorms. As we live at the foot of the Cairngorms I'd have to say you were spot on with your clothing. We can have sun going up and snow when we are up there which many have had to be rescued from. Astounding the amount of people come up the ranges very unprepared. I think it's an English thing but I'd point out fog comes from the sea. Mist is what we usually have up the mountains as its usually accompanied with very fine drizzle which absolutely soaks you if you don't have the right clothing. Great video away to see what other mountains you get to and other areas

Hey, bloke of the good. Great video. I was hoping for a look at the ghost. Nice weather forecast too. Just like ours in the states, all that $$$ on tech and they can't get a forecast right 😅. Anyway, i dont think i could do a thing with that wind.. id start getting crazy. But you did good for yourself! Can't wait to watch the snow one. It looks horrifying getting thru all that. Good to see you on my feed.. Peace
