The most simple closed geometric schape with curve is circle and triangle is the first one with straight line. square is just two triangle stick together. How about the mess made by colourfulness in these new installments? I am annoyed by that because it reminds me of Wreck it Ralph's sugar rush land. And it seems like this is a standard nowadays for most or maybe even every videogame/TV-series/movie intended for children. The first three games on Ps1 were sombre and had higher contrast between dark and bright colors. This is because of the graphical restrictions (I assume) but still, I miss really the sombre and menacing feeling left from the environments like Generator Room, Road to Nowhere, Bone Yard, Temple Ruins, Road to Ruin etc. but now it is replaced by softer, smoother, more rainbow-colored and brighter environments. It kinda diminishes the affection of harshness the original levels left in my mind and maybe someone else's too. I don't know, maybe times and standards are only there to change but I don't buy this new strategy the companies developing and releasing Crash and every other old franchise use nowadays when pitching the new titles and installments for these franchises. And the new annoying strategy is that they try so hard to please all the audience they try to sell the game for. Please listen you all big corporations who release any form of entertainment for us, don't forcibly try to get new audience for your famous releasing titles. And even more if another side of the fanbase gets punished by new concepts/ideas. If you can't develope and adapt new concepts and features to a game that respects/enhance the base idea with which the older fans are familiar with, don't make a new creation. If you want to reach new customers, create a whole new franchise for them. It is a fresh start for everyone and not another partial dissappointment that you make when you create a wheel (read: a new game with remarkable brand behind it) again with utterly non-necessary features (read: fillers). I wouldn't say the N. Sane trilogy or upcoming new installment for the main series of Crash are bad. It is only the doubt that I have about this new movement in whole entertainment industry nowadays that is run by means of pure greed instead of genuine creativity and strong determination. I hope that this new game called It's about time can do THE THING in every Crash Bandicoot fan's head and not only for the new fans or old fans. It has a lot of pressure on it... We will see what this new game turn out to be soon. Until then, let's hope the best for it!

wow, that was trully a GREAT video! covering a video game through the prism of art (in a time when people actually forget that video gaming is art) shows that you actually understand how this kind of art "works". I could clearly see a whole philosophical belief behind this documentary(!). I am sure that you can and will be heard, from all kind of fans, even to the actual "heads" of this game. Productions are listening, a little bit of quietly, but still listen, to the fans. That's why they even make remasters. The not promising part, is that art consist MUCH of philoshophy in it, and you understand it, but they may not. The actual wheel of this car was and is money so anything around the game, the character and the fans themselves is subjective. That's the real sad part of video gaming industry, they forgot that what they do is art and we forgot how to appreciate the games. keep up the amazing filmmaking and animation, from a fellow graphic designer!

The easy version of Crash 1 made for today's brainless kids, a weak videogaming generation, to be able to get a goddamn gem - which is comprehensive due to the new shitty mechanics or else it would indeed be completely impossible - but that's about it, Nitro-Fueled it's coming and it's gonna be even worse! what do you think of the new crash game? personally I think that gameplay wise it was very good they did as better if not improved the original gameplay, overall design was good too they stuck to the original formula, graphics were okay... they could've showed us much much better detail and lighting to immerse ourselves in the world with what the ps4 can offer, naughty dog showed such attention to details that the world felt alive, the jungle, the mayan structure it felt real, lastly the music... it was not that good, in the ps1 games we had such beautiful melodies and creative design that fits the current level perfectly, when you're in the woods you can hear the didgeridoo or even an elephant cry from afar in the music, that added some much immersion that the little me back then believed that that world existed and again in the sewers the melody consists of striking pipes and you can hear water drops from afar such brilliance, sadly we lost that in the ps4 new game but still it was a very enjoyable game but it didn't have that old magic

Although I'm much younger than most PS1-era kids, Crash has been a huge part of my life. The first one was my introduction to games in general, and the PS1 was my only console till about 2007 or so. I would love to see it return. However, I must say that, even though I didn't really like any of the games post CTR, Twinsanity is one of my favorites in the series! Hopefully someone else here understands what I see in it. Fantastic video! Also, 2 is my favorite, what's yours?

Blame PC Pleb Virgin No Life race, they're always blaming consoles. Because of them who are always blaming consoles, game industry has fallen apart and we'll never get these awesome games back. CB 2 and 3 the best 4 me. Spyro 1-YotD is also best.

The problem of Twinsanity is about... insanity. Yes, Cortex beings a stupid guy. It's doesn't have good "balance point" in your insanity. PS: sorry my bad english.

Hey Javed! Incredible work and many thanks for the time and energy you put into making this film and sharing your experiences/insight. Crash was definitely my childhood game and you brought up such a fresh and fantastic perspective of the team behind it. Thank you Javed! Cheers

Javed, your video is beautiful sharp insanity. PHENOMENAL video editing, graphic design, and writing throughout the whole thing. And I agree with everything you said as someone who was introduced to video games with the first Crash. I fell off the series after Twinsanity due to the direction it went in, and you perfectly put into words what those games were (as a whole) missing. It's interesting how a lot of your points could be applied to Insomiac's Spyro trilogy as well and how it fell victim to similar problems after being passed on to other developers that didn't understand what made Spyro "Spyro". Perhaps you could do a similar "Icon Decline" essay on that? ;) Other than that, I seriously commend the work you did in this video. Activision and Sony need to see this! By the way, at 7:45 I laughed out loud at the massive grin on your face. I know that exact feeling of triumph when a creator confirms your observations about something they made. It's the best. :P

I'll be honest, before this video, I'd never heard of Crash Bandicoot. I've never played any of these games though I think one of my brother's had a toy of Crash sitting in a Jeep-like car or something

This was an incredibly well done video. It was very interesting to see this breakdown of Crash Bandicoot. You usually don't think about just how much thought and care goes into things like this. Although, regarding the later Crash Bandicoot games, I would honestly say my favorite of the series is Crash Twinsanity. Yes, that's saying a lot to put it above the first 3 but it really feels like a great natural progression of the series to me while still being loyal to Naughty Dog's original idea for the character and the world's aesthetic. The soundtrack is simply amazing, world is fun to explore, and bosses have the charm of Naughty Dog's characters.

I totally agree about Crash Twinsanity. It left behind the mad volatile atmosphere of the original games but moved onto something equally compelling and equally fitting for Crash. I thought the mutant games missed completely though. They weren't bad in their own right (MoM was maybe) but they just didn't carry over the right elements to work as Crash games.

Crash needs a new game that surpasses the original since its still riding on the back of the original games. Hopefully the success of the trilogy tell activision that platformers are still alive and well.

Watching this in 2017 just days after the new Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy has come out which includes everything you said the originals had. It's beautiful, it's sharp and it's insanely fun but frustrating at the same time which is what you want in a good game. This remake really has brought Crash back to his original glory

Before I state my obviously inferior opinion, I'd first like to say, brilliant video.I'm not sure on the size of your production team, but it's certainly an amazing work of passion and effort on you and everyone's part. Bravo and kudos, many times over. But I'd also like to establish my experience with Crash as a character and as a series. I love Crash. His spastic, yet lovable movement as his controlled chaos demeanor has always sparked my interest in him, despite my own personality being a foil to him in many ways. Quite reserved and a bit pessimistic, but it was always a delight to see and control such a bouncy and fantastically made character that was such a polar opposite, that I grew to love him in an instant. But despite this love, I was often too poor to afford shelling out money for all his games. Renting being my primary means to play his games, thus is why I've only played through his first and second game, started but never completed Mind over Mutant, and had multiple playthroughs of his racing spin-offs, specifically Tag Team Racing. But as I write this, I feel sleep gnawing at my psyche and thus my say what must be said, now and quickly.I love Crash Bandicoot. I've committed to Sony because of him. God of War and Uncharted confirmed my faith had been well placed. I'd love to him return, but once he does, return him to his former glory of the flagship series, but retain the mechanics of the Racing games. Nostalgia may blur my perception of them, but there's something quite unique about them that I'd be remissed to see fade into even more distant memories. If this letter or your video could reach the desk of Activision or the creator of Crash or the racing titles, let them know the fans care. He's a gaming icon that has been in remission for far too long, nearly retirement in my eyes, but I'm sure everyone is tired of the teasing and half-assed cameos. We want a solo romp of Crash taking on the world and maybe a niche racing portion guised as multiplayer, with its own unique customization of Bandicoot and vehicle of destruction, like a cartoony destruction derby, powered by fan imagination and friendly competition.Sorry for the lengthy read, but please, sincerely, consider this letter and maybe even this concept. We've lost too many icons as of late. Let Crash Bandicoot escape a similar fate and return as the awkward, but energetic face of a new generation of gamers. With much love and respect, Drew...

Now You See It sent me here and I couldn't be more thankful. Crash Bandicoot was the first 3D game I've ever played, I used to sleep over at my aunt's house from time to time and she had a playstation, so I was introduced to beautiful games like these. This essay was amazingly written and the video was perfectly executed to go along with it. Thank you. ♥

Don’t get me wrong peeps. I’m glad Crash 4 is happening. I understand change is necessary to move forward. I heard the reasoning behind this. But I still think his current redesign is basically undoing the point this video made, which lead to the N Sane Trilogy / Nitro-Fueled character designs we had. I don’t expect Crash to look 100% the same going forward, as the same can be said about Character designs in any series in general. But his Crash 4 makeover is just too different. Please don’t be toxic with me. I have no intentions to be toxic with those who loves it.

Thank you for this. The whole vibe of the video was very emotionally fitting. I grew up obsessing over crash. After watching, I applied the information to how it effected me as a child in my development and noticed that it probably had a big impact. In my personality, the art I'm drawn to, and the music I listen to. All beautiful, sharp, and insane. Thanks.
