While there are clearly multiple personal reasons for this, Damian did not get to the point where dude can afford to buy, run and maintain these cars by being sentimental or by ignoring the math. Dude lost £200K in three years on this vehicle. Damian is a wealthy man, but that IS a lot of money by any standard. The global pandemic has and will restrict the availability of the rallies and motoring social events that he enjoys and that was a main draw of this car. The vehicle is extremely expensive to run and insure and is frankly corroding before his very eyes in spite of his meticulous care and attention. There is absolutely NO incentive to drive it as there is zero market for the highest mileage V12 TdF risking even higher losses on what is already a rapidly depreciating asset. And that is before risking the ruinously expensive repair bill if something did go wrong while this vehicle is in his care. Keeping the car is even more untenable when he (a) already has a dazzling garage AND (b) a brand spanking new 488 Pista Spider spec'd to his individual preferences (hopefully without the 100% premium) inbound that can give him all the attention, entry to exclusive events, admiration and driving pleasure that he enjoyed so much with the TdF... Even if it will be a future classic as he predicts this will not happen for several years and keeping the car under glass for that time would be a motoring (and financial) travesty of the very highest order. This is a reasonable decision (one that could be argued is long overdue!) That said, many thanks to Damian for sharing the experiences with us as you maximised the value of this vehicle. Hopefully the next owner will be as good a steward and motoring gentleman/lady as he has been. Damian, I sincerely hope that you do not overpay for the next bit of rolling art you acquire (*cough* T50 *cough*) and that this TdF sells quickly! Cheers!

I'm hoping the strategy is to a) first and foremost make smart decisions in curating the garage, an ongoing process and b) while taking a depreciation hit and selling some great vehicles in a soft market, you ultimately come out ahead by buying that 288 GTO which has gone down even more and whose opportunities for purchase are far more scant than re-buying a F12 or an F40 later. Also, I have no earthly idea if the 288 GTO market has gone down, but these modern supercars and hypercars all bleed together a bit for me. The 288 GTO, now there's an organic thrill! And what more subtle intoxicant can there be than nostalgia, to paraphrase Don Draper's Carousel pitch.

But.... the T.50 will be limited and looking at Pagani, Koenigsegg, LaFerrari, P1, Veyron its probable that you'll be able to sell at a profit a couple of years in. Provided they truly turn out as amazing as they look now, I'll doubt there will be a reason to sell. The last hurrah of pure NA V12, mid engine, light weight, manual, Gordon Murray perfection. I live in Dublin, Ireland is so crazy for insurance can I ask you a question with high-performance supercars Ireland rarely cover anything over 3L there is some sort of way around this insuring your car with your house! In the UK when you insured your F 12 TDF! Did Romans assist you with the best insurance company? I see Joe Macari London has a TDF for sale at the moment for quite some time now actually! Is there a way of insuring the UK supplied car with the policy based in the UK whilst it will remain in Ireland? Probably not? Perhaps you have knowledge on this.

You said it in one of your vids yourself you basically never gave it 100% pedal to the metal because the moment you do it the back comes loose. It's a shame because other wise it's really nuts.

I never felt it was quite involving enough.. hence started looking elsewhere and that's when I saw the used values of California Ts with low mileage... my father has the same 991.2 C2S but a cab.. and it's a much more raw experience from an engine sound pov.. and it stuck in my mind.. plus I used to run various Lotus (Exige, Elise) for 12 years and missed that open air experience.. The current business manager at Graypaul Ferrari Edinburgh (Dominic) was the sales manager previously at Porsche Glasgow (I use Porsche Kendal for my 2019 Cayenne S as I fell out with the Glasgow dealership) and he kept in contact... I was offered to go on a trip to Italy last year to savour the F8 tributo etc.. but I would have felt a fraud knowing I was't in the market for one and declined the offer. But... I fell in love with the Cali T.. plus I have two young boys 5 and 7 who could still (just..) fit in the back.. Had one sleepless night and put a deposit down on a Rosso Corsa / black roofed Cali T the next day.. Saw it on Friday last week and collect 31st August.. Can't wait!!
