Goodbye Gail Platt: Helen Worth Leaves Coronation Street After 50 Years | This Morning

She's been at the centre of some of the most memorable storylines in soap history. But yesterday, Helen Worth announced she was saying goodbye to Coronation Street and the iconic role of Gail Platt after 50 years. Following the news, we’ll be looking back at some of her biggest and best moments with Sharon Marshall and former castmates Brian Capron and Todd Boyce.

I remember when Gail first joined Corrie. She is around my age. I remember her and Susie having so much fun together in the early days. 50 years has gone bye way too soon. I will miss her. I even watch it in California and I am from Lancashire. I wish her all the love and happiness for her future plans and many Blessings. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Another sign that Corrie is shifting?.. Certain characters are the glue that hold this show together and Helen Worth is most definitely one of them!?... Sad loss to Corrie?..... Only so many times you can have story lines that are filmed in a police station/hospital ward or prison cell dealing with apparent social issues before you need some light hearted situations. ..Helen Worth was so good at this (given the right script!) and hope the door is open to return at some point...

My mum and I were at Buckingham Palace for the Prince’s Trust’s 45th celebrations. And my mum got the chance to take a picture with Helen. Never seen my mum be such a fan girl. 😂😊

The story line has changed drastically,for the worse, since the new writers took over the writing of Corronation St. So many new actors .. this program has no longer remained the Corronation St . That we have known and loved over the years. It has lost the character,the true meaning ,the life of the program. No wonder all the main characters, the actors are leaving. The program has become so bad, it is like a sinking ship,and the actors are jumping ship.

I watched Corrie from it's first episode December 1960. I used to see many Corrie greats in and around Manchester over the years later, I even had to go into to Granada studios on Quay St at times because of my job. Fast forward this announcement by Helen Worth surprised me, I'm curious how she will be written out? Like many actresses she was the glue holding the Street together at times through the years. I last watched Corrie in 2020, one night, and one bad actress/characters story line was so nonsensically unbelievable and insult to viewers intelligence I turned off during the show and haven't had the slightest inclination to watch since. After 60 years of viewing. Haven't missed it all, but my thoughts and best wishes go to Helen as she takes a well earned retirement break.

Coronation Street is unwatchable and horrible PC now. Gayle had a great run with Elsie Tanner and Susie Birchall in the late 1970s. Axe it and started televising from episode ONE. THE opportunity to axe Coronation Street was the Tram Crash of 2010.

I stopped watching coronation street a good few years ago. I’d rather watch the classic episodes than the current drivel it has become. Coronation street today is no longer true to the ethos it set out to fulfill the comedy the real relationships Jack and Vera, Stan and Hilda. Now they change the characters to suit the story lines. And there’s so much violence on it…
