Absolutely none of those points bother this CX-9 driver. I don't have small kids anymore but this car still would have done the job beautifully. I was an Explorer driver for years and hated the feeling of driving a boat that leaned with every turn. Wish I had known about the CX-9 sooner in my life. It's an extremely comfortable, agile and sleek vehicle.

The crazy thing is I went from a Subaru Legacy Touring XT to the 23 CX9 carbon edition and I just feel more at ease in the Mazda. The Legacy was fully loaded but I believe going away from the touchscreen just made my life so much less stressful. In regards to the power of the engine. I haven’t found it to be an issue having taken a ski trip recently. The vehicle was packed to the rafters and I had no trouble. Would more be better, sure but the CX9 is so easy to live with in my opinion.

The CX5 could use an 8 spd transmission as well. Does not need to be a DCT, but more gears would be nice on the highway as well.

2021 CX9 owner and all these are 1st world issues. The CX 9 in my opinion drives smaller than it is and looks so much better than the bloated CX90.

Give Mazda a little more time and a little more input, breaking away from Ford and starting from scratch takes a little while to , Ford had ruined Mazda in my view, They are doing some great things with there product. As for me a CX-9 owner it is my favorite car to ride and travel in a few new enhances to the CX-9 wont hurt a thing. Thanks for taking time to make Car Vid Jonathon. Oh Have a Happy New Year !

My biggest issue with the changes to their models is removing the option of FWD only. We have a Tow Dolly that can handle both of our Mazdas behind the RV. With their changes we may have to look at another Make that can be pulled behind the RV.

Valid points but I luv my 22 CX9. The engine/trans has been around a while and has no issues. I bet they will ruin the CX90 with stop/start like they did the CX50. I bought a 2nd & 3rd Mazda since I cannot stand stop/start. The 90 will also have 1st year bugs with a new straight 6 and 8spd trans. Just look at Toyota.. They’re known for their reliability but the new Tundra has many issues with the new design and engine.

Ellis in Marietta is doing Mazda Finance 0% up to 36 months on CX-9 and 2022 Miata. Wife sat in a CX-9 over the weekend and felt like it was too big for her. She prefers a CX-5. Was a very plush interior. She doesn't want to haul large groups of people.

Nothing of that bothers me. Are on my second CX-9 second generation. (2018 and 2023) If I wanted a third seat daily drive I would not look at Mazda at all. But for me who only uses the third seat once/2 year it works great. I love the responsive engine. Will take a serious look at the CX-90 when it has been in production for 2-3 years. Unfortunately it might fit in my garage…

First thing I thought you were going to say was the sunroof size being smaller than the panoramic sunroofs. For me the deal breaker is no 6 cylinder engine. Otherwise, I would have sent you a txt for that Carbon Edition.

After leasing a 2019 and 2022 CX-9, by far the best driving SUV we have had. Here are the draw backs you mentioned and my adders: - young kids grew out of the third row. - no vents in 3rd row - cargo space is limited with all seats up - if you are tall, the driver leg space width wise could have been more accommodating, I always fatigued on long drives, needing more stretching - the AC system is very underpowered for hot summers, definitely not adequate for Texas summer. - the engine groan often is a bit annoying, could have sounded better - remote start on the key fob would be nice - the Mazda connect app is not all that amazing, much more refining needed. - not much off aftermarket tuning options We decided to finally move on from the Mazda but will come back to it if the CX-90 will address lot of the issues. For now I have moved on to a Ford ST for power, space and aftermarket tuning. The better half finally got her Telluride after waiting 3 years. Will be a fan of Mazda..they are awesome and reliable.

Good, honest review. Reality is important. Mazda needs to address their lack of cargo space problem considering Americans need space if they are going to use these vehicles for what they are intended; family vehicles, soccer moms, parents driving their kids around to sporting events and leaves and going on vacation. Americans need storage space in their vehicles! It's not realistic to have adequate passenger seating and then they have no place to put a cargo or stuff they are traveling with.

Sadly heated steering wheel only on 10-2 on new architecture. Mazda love feedback though and continued feedback will make a change. I am in Hiroshima this week. Hoping to drop past HQ.

I always thought the CX-9 was underpowered for it's size. It's hard to fathom that it shares the same engine as the Mazda 3.

The turbo model is decent enough, but there’s no true “powerhouse engine” for it. For example a non turbo 2.5 Mazda 3 is just as fast as a 2.5 turbo CX-9

Great turbo engine. It put in the work for the CX-9 so it could be stuffed into my compact hatchback. Fingers crossed they repeat that with the inline 6.

It is kind of cool to have the all LED rear display on my Chrysler 200. I live the look,but 8f there's a problem , it's a minimum of $350 to replace it! I easily replaced the rear bulbs in my '15 cx-9 with LEDs and am quite content with it. I kind of prefer the $6 LED replacement to the $350 LED replacememt. So we're probably better off in the long run. BTW,a kid still rear ended me at a stop light with the big bold LED displays on the rear of the Chrysler! I told him to put his phone away. Doesn't matter what they put in there if people are not paying Attn.

Hey, I'm concerned that the CX-90 will not have an independent rear suspension and hard seats that are not comfortable on long trips. I also hope the CX-90 have a trim that has matching paint on the wheel wells like the CX-5 Signature has and for some dumb reason the CX-9 Signature does not.

It's definitely not time for the cx90 unless you don't mind paying thousands more for repairs since most repairs require the engine to be lifted out. Because of this I'll stick to the cx9 or just go with the Honda Pilot. The cx90 after warranty expires will not be good if timing chain needs to be replaced early or other repairs.

I understand your thinking, but I haven’t seen a Mazda since I’ve been here that required a timing chain replaced. I have confidence in their ability to correct potential problems. The CX-9 is a great vehicle still.

I think Mazda should easily use existing 2.5t with slight boost increase it would put out 270hp and 350tq , than add 8 speed ATX to it for 0-60 increase to around 6.2 sec to 60 what would be perfectly fine. Now with Sport mode activated it would give it extra few psi of boost for say 10 seconds for even quicker bursts of power. Than add ECO to driving mode for even better fuel economy with 8 speed getting to 30mpg . Slightly tweak dash and replace piano black with modern design . Keep price the same as now. I'm just afraid new CX90 will be priced too high and too heavy I have read first reports of CX60 steering being numb and dead for first few degrees of the turn...and that is very worrying sign. Than weight of CX60 sounds like more than CX-9!

I don't care about the torque as much as I do about the cost, complexity and reliability. Which Honda has the turbo?? Honda has been selling cars and suvs just fine without the turbo. Honda says, keep it simple. I'm inclined to agree. I'm also a big fan of inline 6. I'll be just fine. 😊

@@ginakerry2588 CVT is simple , unfortunately too simple and turns into primitive and unrefined. As far as torque is concerned,it is a usable power and give the car feel of easy and effortless acceleration. When engine has little of torque like base engine in Civic and is combined with CVT what is a combination for very noisy and strained acceleration, so complete opposite to a conventional transmission and engine with lot of torque low where there is no need for a hard work or strain combined with noise and vibration. So design choices and transmission and engine type are a key here .

Cx 9 I believe came out in 2007. The problem with Mazda the extra room, performance etc is going to add 10 k to the price and put alot of people out of the market. Mazda always had value, design and safety

@COLDSTONE CANC3RGANG 99 they are trying to move up market to eventually compete with the Germans, that's why they are moving to rwd platform and inline six, they will be more reliable for sure, but they won't be quite on that level yet, doesn't mean they can't eventually be better. If they can do driving dynamics and luxury at a level close to the Germans and be reliable, will be tough to beat them.

Wrong. It's not the extra room that's going to increase the price $10,000 its the turbo (3500) and the hybrid (6500+) drive trains that will increase the price 10k all which really does little for the driver that a tuned up basic V6 couldn't do...oh, but global warming. Enjoy!

Finally a hardcore Mazda fan say out loud all Mazda problems, great review like always. For me all i want to see is for Mazda stop being lazy and copy Audi/BMW old interface and interior design, customers need pano roof, bigger and more intuitive infotainment system, digital speedometer and an updated interior design other than that MAZDA kodo design is fantastic

I disagree on the Pano roof. Standard sunroof is fine with me. Pano makes the car structure less rigid and more susceptible to rattles, and eventual leakage issues. I call on automotive plants and see many SUVs with Pano roofs in the re-work areas from leakage issues after being run through the rain tunnels. The light from them is nice, but going with lighter interior materials and standard sunroof would be a better option in my opinion.

Yeah,bummer. Wish they would still have a Sport model with regular gauges. For some reason, I just don't feel the need for my dash to sing and dance and provide a light show. Maybe its just me.

Ok, no car is perfect. Points taken. They aren't really deal breakers. To me another negative is the absence of a digital speedometer inside the cluster. And the fact that the rear phone charger usb ports are only accessible when the armres/cup holder is down just like in the cx5. That is terrible. Also the cx90 will be significantly higher in price than the outgoing cx9 so not everyone is able to upgrade..the cx90 will cost just a little less than BMW X5. That's not affordable anywhere on the planet

the CX-90 does sound like a major improvement over the outgoing CX-9, but the premium direction will probably hurt sales somewhat(especially going into a recession that's forecast). Personally I'm torn between the CX-90 and the upcoming Grand Highlander for a new vehicle. Wish mazda would have stuck to something more along the lines of; no frills/max reliability with this model as a seven seater doesn't scream 'high end' to me. That being said the inline engines/RWD biast powertrain will likely be very sought after despite the sacrifice in fuel economy. On that note, the fuel economy on the CX-9 sounds terrible! 23mpg is what I get on my ten year old Mitsubishi V6 SUV. The captains chairs are definitely a great feature, and I love that they only cost an extra thousand or so(at least up here in Canada) & are available on nearly every trim level. Toyota is really price gouging for some of the more sought-after features (4k option & only available on the higher trim models of the current Highlander) All in all a great good bye vid, and way to keep the anticipation for the new model going.

Totally agree with the new (price) direction HURTING sales. I'm an AWD Sport buyer. Less into the luxury aspect. Unlike most people (apparently), I don't need the car to drive for me and nudge the steering wheel where IT thinks I should go. I certainly don't want to pay EXTRA for that! Sport no longer available. 🙁

​@nedaltrebor8553 I did and I ended up getting one because as I delved deeper into my research with the CX90 I seen it has 3 timing chains and if something goes wrong you can't get to anything without pulling the whole motor, I am very pleased with the CX9 though and you're right 2.5 isn't a small motor it has plenty of pickup

Most of these characteristics neesds huge investment and Mazda should stand in front of its american counterparts and that is non of the japanese brands make this risk,even the lexus lx 600 does not have the enough room for third row ,additionally the european brands do not kake that risk.you see bmw x7 is just a little baby compare to for example chevrolete Tahoe or cdilac scalade.This is danger zone to invest for auto manufactures and asian and european have doubts go into as well,when you want to make three row seat suv the leg room and engine power plays the important roll

CX-5 still looks slick and the new turbo power is what it needed since they didn't have a 6 cyl option. Although, I won't buy anymore turbos. I keep my cars too long and they just didn't hold up.

The idea behind hybrid is nice. But financially speaking, it's a loser. If your lucky, it will last long enough to recoup the extra expense in gas savings . About that point you'll be paying $3500 to replace the battery on a 100k+ 6yr old vehicle. If you choose not to replace the battery , then what happens? You're carrying around a 400lb paperweight that's hurting your gas mileage instead of helping . Maybe they'll come out with an option to just jettison the hybrid part, but I doubt it. My roommate says the batteries in her old prius no longer work and her gas mileage is terrible . She doesn't have the $3500 to replace the battery . 🙁 I suppose they need to start convincing the public that cars are just disposable. Buy all the hi tech goodies and then just throw it away at 100k miles . It's no big deal. 😂😂 Maybe it's good for the environment in the long run?? Nothing else they're saying makes sense, so why not ?

I liked the video. Of course I know about these issues which is why we kept our 2015 around so long. Cx9 has been a sad joke since 2016. BTW, no issues with the armrest on 2015. So they must have f**ed it up somewhere long the way.

@@ginakerry2588 Gina, we have 4 Mazda's in our family, so we are fans. My wife's CX-9 is a 2010 GT model and it's a nice vehicle, though it has had it's issues. I've had to replace many CV-axles on it. (I think the heavy 20" wheels are the culprit and we just finished our 5 replacement)? That being said, here's a head's up for you regarding the water pump in the 2nd gen CX-9. The engine in ours, is actually a Ford Duratec with a terrible "internal water-pump" design. We were on a beach vacation when ours failed @ 120K miles. No steam, no leakage, just a check engine light and the car shut down at a stop light while going to dinner. Got it cranked and made it to dinner and back to condo, but was running very rough. Checked it the next morning with my scanner and it pointed to water pump. Found out the "internal water pump" is located behind the timing chain cover, and when the seal failed, it dumped the coolant down the inside of the cover and into the oil pan of the car, with no visual leaks on the outside of the vehicle. Checked the oil and it looked like chocolate milk. Put water in it and limped it to the nearest dealer a few miles away. They confirmed the water pump failure and were going to have to remove the engine to get to it and would need several weeks to do it. I towed it back 7 hours to our local dealer with a U-Haul. That $250 water pump failure had wiped out the engine. Once they got it apart, they showed me some of the residual metal in the bottom of the oil pan and we figured the engine was shot. Ended up putting a used one in from LKQ, and yes we put a new water-pump on it before we installed it. So, in hindsight, I'd take the 2016-and-up's actual Mazda 4-cylinder turbo engine any day, over the Ford Duratec engine. You have been warned! 😉

They must have beefed up the cv joint in ours. I've pummeled it pretty well I've the years with acceleration . So far so good. Meanwhile,I'll make a not.to change the water pump at 110k mis. Although I'm hoping to be in a cx-90 before that point. Thanks for the info.
