Garnt, I doubt you'll read this but I'm a dentist and a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and I just wanted to tell you-- the symptoms you are describing, and the misdiagnoses, are typical of someone who has a slight "occlusal discrepancy." Ask a dentist to check your bite and he can prove to you with colored contact paper that one side is biting harder than the other and it's causing jaw discomfort. The "procedure" is just to smooth down 1-3 teeth and doesn't even need anesthetic. It does require a dentist who understands occlusion, however. All United States dental schools teach this concept in detail but not all European ones emphasize it in the same way, so this may be part of the issue at hand. I'll cross my fingers that you read this comment. Of course, it could be something else because you're not in my chair and I don't know the whole story, but I can't tell you how many times I've solved this problem in just a few minutes and patients have literally hugged me because of how frustrated they were with their situations. And it shouldn't even cost anything. n.b. I am not your dentist and this is not legally dental advice, this is a suggestion.

I can get behind the argument joey had against carrying around a 50% keyboard because it helps you, it's simply going the extra ten miles to solve a tiny problem that could've been solved with a ten minute walk, it's too much of an overkill IF YOURE TALKING ABOUT A "MUST OR MUST NOT" SITUATION, if it comes to personal preference or personal commodity, you do you, but saying that everyone should do it because its actually better and really good and it can help you work better on your laptop and stuff, again, it's like using a full on flamethrower to light a cigarette

To clarify the ADHD thing (around 42:00-ish): ADHD isn't a lack of attention; it's a lack of control of where your attention sets. What you've described is what a lot of us in the ADHD community have counted as "all or nothing" which plagues literally fucking everything we do. In this case, it's a difference between, "only one thing exists, it's the thing right in front of me, & I'm not gonna stop even to eat, sleep, or piss", or "I'm focusing on literally every little thing going on right now from that bug crawling across the ceiling to the baby crying down the street", & there's rarely an in-between of those two states of mind. Think of it like your brain as a wall with tv screens, & that swaps between either a million images or one single image without anything in between. I'm severely dumbing this down for the sake of clarity (even though this is still probably confusing), but it's the easiest way to describe it without getting into deep psychology talk.
@Bobbias2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You've explained it well. It's frustrating seeing how much public perception gets wrong about ADHD.
@Heightren2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. The "inability of controlling your attention" explanation made it very clear for me.
@DanielVisOneCade2 жыл бұрын
There's this plus the fact ADHD or ADD depending on which diagnostic system your using is RARELY a solitary condition. It's usually nested with other executive executive dysfunctions so you might have multiple issues that either are creating competition for your already limited attention or are further limiting what you could have had when compared to someone like a family member or college who is more neurotypical. Great examples are hearing or sight issues so if you can't hear well your likely to miss important audio ques like your mother calling for your attention? Or maybe because you have poor eyesight you miss your mother waving for your attention? The next thing you know your stepping out into traffic or putting yourself into some other unintentionally dangerous situation that you family members would not as they are "more attentive" to your mother's concern's than you. The pure and simple fact is the "internet" is not creating more people with these conditions or similar issues it's just highlighting how many people actually suffer from them. It's a matter of better reporting coming to the light. The same as we are seeing with food based intolerances & other medical conditions. As specialists are further connecting thanks to the internet & the information on what to look for in pre- diagnostics becomes more wide spread. More people are able to look at their own antidotal life experiences or friend's/families experiences & go you know what you MIGHT have an issue here that's worth getting specialists attention for. Rather than just constantly fighting your way through life trying to fit into a pathway that's NOT ideal for you. That doesn't matter if it's ADHD or Gluten Intolerances or Hyperthyroidism these are all area's that people now can seek help from better than ever before & anyone who shits on someone for seeking help "because they found it on the internet" is a capital C word for not supporting them.

"Think of it like your brain as a wall with tv screens, & that swaps between either a million images or one single image without anything in between." This right here where it's like a million images every millisecond sums up how I see a lot of things in life often. But there's times where I rarely see things in between where I'm either focusing too much on what's in front of me and not gonna stop or noticing the smaller bits of every little thing I see around me. It does get annoying trying to describe something without having to pay attention to different memories that flash in your head every second and lose track of what you're trying to describe.

In Denmark, when i got diagnosed with Asperger's syndrome, the doctors asked a few questions but the main part was a lot of test. Testing my reaction time, my shirt term memories and my ability to find patterns. There was also tests on reading people's faces. Went though those tests 3 times each over the course of about half a year. For me it was worth getting diagnosed, it was like "huh, there exist a name for people that act like me, neat. But I am still me so let's see what i can get out of this to improve my daily life". And i got to learn a few techniques to cope with stuff.

The keyboard argument basically boils down to Garnt and Joey not wanting Connor to have a valid point, they want him to remain as monke....

My mother is a Karen and I've learn growing up how to deal with people like that. However, I've also learned that sometimes being a Karen is an appropriate response. There are a lot of workers out there who try to use their position to intimidate or take advantage of you and when you have a Karen on your side at moments like that it's kinda nice.

Simply defending yourself in a bad situation and being a “Karen” are Two completely different things. There are no situations where being a “Karen”is a good thing.
@bornana2692 жыл бұрын
In those situations you are not being a Karen tho. I cannot stand people acting like if you confront a worker then youre automatically a Karen no matter whether youre wrong or right. No, Karens are rude and mean and selfish. If you have a reason to get upset, then youre not being a Karen, very simple.

Personally, I really appreciate the guest episodes, but sometimes you just want to have a normal parasocial one-sided nonsensical chat with the trio you are already familiar with, who have (undoubtedly) one of the best chemistry out there. The formula just works, or it wouldn't have lasted for 100 episodes

Boys talking about custom keyboard , this is the best episode ever. Someone give Joey a keyboard with GMK Mecha or something and he will appreciate the hobby just from it

For Once? He is usually right, They just don't fact check shit correctly while recording and start clowning on him.
@pennyinheaven2 жыл бұрын
He clowned on the numpad first. That's what Garnt was arguing about. If Connor beings his keyboard around then why can't Garnt just use his effing numpad.

I had to pause this episode and take a break after that keyboard argument. Connor, you have the patience of a saint. 70% travel keyboard gang unite! I totally didn't get it until I tried it, and it changed my life as a programmer who works remote. If I ever pack up for a trip that requires me to work, my 70% comes with me no questions asked.
@HelloFromMontreal2 жыл бұрын
I’m definitely with Connor on this one, he didn’t word anything wrong here. 75% and TKL keyboards are great because they’re compact enough to travel with while keeping functionality. It definitely is a preference thing but it felt like Garnt was condemning him for his choice. This was so painful to listen to..
@CrimsonBlazz2 жыл бұрын
TKL's are 80%. 75% don't have buttons like print screen, scroll lock, pause break etc.
@carlangelo6532 жыл бұрын
To me a TKL is still a bit too large to bring on a small bag. I usually carry a 60% (PCMK 60) or a 40% (Vortex Core).
@benewashere2 жыл бұрын
To be fair he was also condemning Garnt for his use of the number pad before the argument branched off into other keyboard-related things. I myself prefer the number pad because I deal with a lot of numbers, but I also agree with Connor's point that if you're going to be working with a portable setup for some time, you should pack an external keyboard with you. For a 2 or 3-day trip though it's not worth the extra bulk, you could survive with the laptop keyboard and just bringing a controller if you need to game.

The most painful thing was Garnt just ignoring every point and Joey just doing his usual "I'm either neutral or also against Connor" shtick

Man I remember it wasn't until high school l learned that kids with ADHD can ask for more time on a quiz. I was staying after school getting help from a teacher on math stuff like my senior year and they were like "Oh you have ADHD, why have you never asked for more time on tests?" and I was like "This is my first time hearing about this"

For the record it's mostly a myth that procedures like tonsillectomy or septoplasty will change your voice, I'd definitely recommend not letting that concern get in the way of improving your health. That's not to say it's NEVER happened, but realistically these procedures hardly ever have any noticeable impact and even if they somehow did, if anything they would have a positive impact like on how full your voice sounds or how wide your vocal range is. Been through one of these types of procedures myself and will likely get a different type at some point too, had the same voice acting related concern as Conner but it turned out it was a completely unnecessary concern (even did a bunch of before and after recordings personally to confirm it). EDIT: Okay definitely seeing a few anecdotal examples in the replies of people who had a different experience. I could totally be wrong so obviously do your research and talk to professionals before any procedure. For whatever reason all the medical information and studies I've seen, as well as the patients (primarily voice actors) and doctors I've talked to painted these various procedures as hardly ever having any real impact on one's voice in the long term. I'm sure there's many factors at play though that could indicate the risk levels of one's voices getting changed.
@theoacean2 жыл бұрын
Can confirm it does indeed happen more often than people think. I used to work in general surgery for 4 years and a very small amount of people complained they did have noticeable voice changes post tonsillectomy. Not a lot but still a scary risk to take if your job is heavily reliant on the quality of your voice. Granted this is just my personal experience and there are multiple factors including the doctor operating "messing up" and how heavily the patient uses their voice post op. But out of the 4 years I worked there I definitely saw it happen at least 5 times where the persons voice was just slightly different after surgery and recovery
@WhiteWingsnBlueSkys2 жыл бұрын
i got the surgery when i was in year 6 (about 11 years old) and i distinctly remember my voice changing post-surgery and i was so freaked out, my mum had to comfort me but my family noticed and people in my class at school noticed for sure, so i think its definitely possible for a change in voice, my brother also got the surgery but his voice didn't change much at all, maybe the effects can be age/sex related too
@ilmiii86892 жыл бұрын
@@WhiteWingsnBlueSkys basically, your tonsil also kinda blocks your nasal passage from your throat. Now that it opened up, you basically get your "true" voice without any obstacles that get in the air's way. It's like cleaning a tube, the easier air gets in the change of voice will be heard. edit : in conclusion, your voice technically didn't "change". It doesn't affect your voice box. It's only the air and how easy it is to travel through your throat/nose.

I think the worst thing the Netflix adaptation of "13 Reasons Why" did was to present mental illnesses and emotional problems as badges of honor. Oh you suffer from severe anxiety? That's great! You have character! Oh? PTSD? That's just who you are! Genuinely the message of the show *is* that being mentally or emotionally unhealthy is "quirky". I shudder to imagine the damage that did to people my age.
